how can anyone put a bad comment on the man like master Shozo Sato??? Respect the art or just go play your video games or watch movies, don't comment something you don't understand...@ NorthwesternU, thanks for uploading this:)
I love the 4th work. For those who do not understand art of calligraphy being able to read what is written is not that important. It does energize and amplifies final effect but the most important of all is the white space around the character. In other words, how the brush strokes define the white space. That's where whole beauty sleeps and what your heart should focus on while watching.
@808Twilight the fact that u have twilight in your name makes ur opinion count for nothing. if u enjoy twilight, then one would expect u to not be able to enjoy the subtle art of calligraphy
@bbornets Mr. Sato is a good brush painter. However he needs to know and learn the most basic and fundamental of Asian brush writing - the centered tip technique. Without it, his brush writing is just a game.
It's actually not, the first piece is definitely stylized and maybe not what one is used to when one thinks of calligraphy. But Mr. Sato's skill is anything but poor.
Everything Japanese is just so cool.

This is really such a beautiful art. It can be appriciated even if you aren't quite able to understand the text.
Of course, a translation IS always nice. Luckily he gives us one.

Just look around how the Chinese people handle the brushes more skillful than the man in the occasion. No offense.

When one is allowed the privilege of viewing a Zen Master calligrapher, comments seem trivial. Bravo!

Mr. Sato, I love this video: the explanation of "chi" is so clear and understandable. Thank you so much for showing humility and Buddha-self.
I saw you at the SF ASian Art Museum. Come again please! Barbara
