*Half-way through the game, when the characters are crosing Toluca Lake to get to Silent Hill, they mention a female cop going to Silent Hill and finding her bike outside of town - Silent Hill 1.

*In The Order's underground lair, you can find a news paper article about a detective named Douglas Courtland that explosed the cult "The Order" - Silent Hill 3.

The horror in this game -is- a little more thrill-oriented but it does seem to have enough of that ominous atmosphere.

I always felt that a soldier would do well in Silent Hill game- not because I want a guy who knows how to fight but because it's an interesting foil for a Silent Hill story.

A soldier must have a lot of feelings concerning a war, including some feelings of guilt.

I wish to find out what Alex's feelings about the war- and what this war actually is about...

I do like having a soldier for the main character and having dealt with his issues in the game, however, the combat took a hit for it.

The combat is too easy and therefore takes away from the scare factor. When you can steamroll over any enemy with just a knife (which I've done) it really neuters the psychological terror.

The game was good, notwithstanding, but it just wasn't scary.

The problem with the recent Silent Hill's is that the horror is starting to become thrill - like horror oriented, unlike the previous Silent Hill's which scared us with it's ominous enviorment, sound track. Ect. I mean, in Silent Hill 5. You're a guy with actual experience with combat AND firearms! What's with that. :(

A lot of people also read reviews for entertainment value, a good review will be funny, informative ect.

Still not sure if it'll be good, but the footage in this video looked like it will be a fairly good game. I just hope they don't actually kill the HORROR aspect of it. He talks about Japanese horror and stuff, but all I see in that footage is the kind of "jumpy"-horror that US films/games are known for. No psychological stuff.

By the way, when the dog jumps the main character.. that was so a rip off of RE4. LOL

I can only hope that SHV manages to not only give those moments of suspense that just scream "Somethings going to happen, quick..run..." But things that really rattle yer nerves. Like the toilet in SH2, the footsteps in the yard of Toluca Prison and the headless manequin in SH3 etc etc. Not just those quickly leaving moments of fear, but ones that put you on the edge of your seat and scared ta bobbins with no explanation of how it happened.

The interviewer is stuupid! Nevertheless it was nice to hear that the developers were concerned about the monsters' appearances and what they represent (a relief to find out what's up with Siam since I was really worried they just stuck two ppl together and thought it would look kul). Not too sure about the visuals yet cos' some reviewers were complaining that the textures and details don't really match up to next gen (though that opinion was based on a beta test)

Americans are known for butchering Japanese masterpieces. Take "The Ring" for example. See Ringu series. The movie was better Japanese, but we took it, ruined it, didn't give credit to the Japanese developers, put it in theaters and made people yawn.

Silent Hill wasn't made for pop-up scare. Silent Hill was ALL atmospheric. Nothing popped up and scared you. It was the fact that you know there's something to be scared about, and seeing it just makes it even more scary. Even if it doesn't suddenly pop up at you.
