They are wonderful in their stand for non-discrimination and Proposition 8 will end up in a condition of legal injunction, preventing its hurtful enforcement. Proposition 8 is the equivalent of passing a proposition dictating to which religion one may pursue. We do not legislate to meddle with those practicing their religion, why must people attack others for their beliefs when they themselves are never perfect?

My church is big, its the oldest one in Memphis and it is beautiful. gay couples ''can't'' get married there, but legally the government cannot stop them, i am just waiting for a couple to get married there. i will be happy when it happens because my church allows it but my state does not. Yet if the state has a problem they could sue them for their constitutional right of equal protection under the law.

The point is that when dealing with legal affairs, the term "marriage" should not be used due to it's religious affiliation--it's unfair to people who don't have a religion that "marries."
But in addition to this, we must also satisfy the wants of gay and lesbian couples who don't want their relationship to be called something different because it is not equal treatment to have your relationship called something else.
Let's just take the word "marriage" out of the constitutions and law books. Let's have heterosexual couples call their romantic unification a "civil union," at least on a legal level; it's only fair. minkpank, the CA Supreme Court ruled on the procedure of Prop 8, which is different from its ruling on Prop 22 from 2000 in which it overturned the legal ban on gay marriage then, and in addition, the 5/26/09 ruling also stated that gay marriages performed before 11/4/08 remained legal, so saying that the CA Supreme Court ruled that marriage is between one man and a woman is inaccurate.

If Conservatives actually wanted to protect "traditional marriage" they'd be all for polygamy and incest since they both are quite common in the Bible. But their goal has nothing to do with protecting marriage, it's to prevent gays from having as many rights as possible. To me this isn't an everyday issue. We're not talking about who should have won best actor, we're talking about my LIFE. I'm having my rights voted away by people who don't and won't try and understand this issue from my perspective, all they can do is rant about how perverse my "evil lifestyle" is. Because I date men instead of women, I as a person am written off and condemned.
Six gay men wish to get married, as a group. A homosexual group marriage. Are you ok with that? Or three homosexual brothers want to marry as a group, are you ok with that? Remember not to judge them.
Why should I care? Why is that more of a problem than a polygamous heterosexual marriage? And how many people do you know who would be willing to share their partner with someone else?
"As I have stated many, many times before, polygamists are not denied the right to marry, just LIMITED in number". LIMIT the number, and by definition, you no longer have polygamy. Same with SS marriage. Gays can marry, they are JUST LIMITED to gender. LIMITING number is OK with you, JUST Don't LIMIT gender. What is the difference? Brothers are legally related? They can't reproduce, so why legally deny them marriage? They can't do any genetic harm. You are for LIMITING marriage!
If I was to follow the Bible's example I would be all for polygamy and incest because it contains numerous examples of each. If you claim to be Christian, why aren't you for polygamy and incest?
By limiting the gender of who I can marry to only females you guarantee I will NEVER marry. Limiting the number of partners Dan can marry doesn't prohibit him from marrying at least one person he loves. Denying Brian the right to marry his sister doesn't restrict him from finding another woman to marry.
It limits their own personal pursuit of happiness. Who are you to limit the number of spouses that an individual desires to marry? Why deny Brian the opportunity to marry his brother Tom? You only continue to show me where you favor LIMITING Marriage! You are making my point for me, marriage is limited and YOU approve of limiting marriage. Civil Union for you my friend!
There are rational reasons as to why polygamy weakens marriage and incest weakens the family structure. The best you could come up with as to why gays weaken marriage was that the marriage license was changed to read "party a and party b."

Read, can you not think for yourself? I ask you to come up with some common sense reasoning as to why homosexuality is wrong and you quote still more scripture. I've got news for you, not everyone is a Christian and believes in the Bible, so you're gonna need a lot more than a few verses in Romans to convince people that being gay is wrong.

I don't care if YOUR idea of God recognizes my marriage, but my God does and soon so will the State and Federal government.
You know, I can understand how much of the Biblical law has some common sense to it. Murder is wrong because it deprives a person of life and disrupts the lives of the victim's family. Stealing is wrong because it deprives a person of property. THOSE I can see as abominations. But explain to me (in common sense terms, not scripture) how homosexuality is wrong whatsoever.
Homosexuality deprives a person of humanity. Homosexual incest weakens the family structure? It must be nice to hand pick and select your values. If I agree with it, I will abide by it. If I disagree with it, I will belittle and disregard it. You live in a beautiful world!
How does homosexuality deprive anyone of humanity? It's interesting how you just make up B.S. and pass it off as fact.
We all pick our own values. The exception is, I'm not going around attacking people who practise incest. You're the one who is actively belittling and fighting against a group of people for no other than your religious opinions tell you to.
How do you feel about yourself right now? Be honest with yourself and you can easily answer that question. The first step is to always be honest with yourself.
I feel pretty good about myself aside from the hateful comments I endure about me and my "lifestyle." Those can sting.
Unfortunatly a lot of gay people feel terrible about themselves. From the time they are toddlers they hear negative, hateful comments about gays at church, at school, at home. Then they grow up and discover they ARE one of those despised people and they are terrified, terrified that someone will find out, that their parents will disown them, that they are going to hell.
Some gay kids learn to accept themselves, others spend years trying to change only to find they cannot, and sadly others give up on life altogether.
Any lack of humanity involving being gay comes from a vicious, cruel arm of society that attepts to strip homosexuals of their self-worth. Instead of being called son or friend, they are called "abomination." Luckily, many gays and lesbians, myself included, heal from this and go on to live outstanding lives.

I am not going to lash out at you as that would be against my relgious beliefs, which is neither a christian or catholic based religion. I just have some questions. Why does it have to go by your book and your god the rules of marriage which in the eyes of the law is just a joining of people for tax and other benefits via the government, and actually completely without religious interference? Also how do you know being gay is a choice? Does that mean I can choose to be gay? Or better yet can my husband? It is clearly both. Physical characteristics clearly show that you can be born gay, or be indoctrinated into it via abuse, or sexist hatred. Where you lose your credibility is where you protest in front of Christian Churches, and not Muslim Mosques. Muslims believe you should be publicly beheaded, yet you give them a pass. Yes their daugthers are still covered from head to toe almost, but their faces can be seen, and they don't have to wear traditional garb, but they still wear the head covering. In fact I designed a full back tattoo for a Muslim girl I went to school with and her father told me how much he liked it because it was tastefully done. Trying to lump all Muslims in one category is like lumping all Christians in one.

You cannot go through the bible and tear out various pages you don't agree with to accommodate your own lifestyle and call yourself a Christian. A true Muslim cannot do the same with the Koran. Progressive? God's word is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow. There are 10 COMMANDMENTS. Not 10 suggestions or ammendments.
So if you cannot just pick and choose words from teh bible, why do christians have two kinds of crops growing in a field, or wear blends of cloth? "...do not plant your field with two kinds of seed. Do not wear material woven of two kinds of material." (Leviticus 19:19)
What about eating shellfish? "But all in the seas or in the rivers that do not have fins and scales, all that move in the water or any living thing which is in the water, they are an abomination to you." (Leviticus 11:10)

Your right Christianity hasn't changed at all! They still stone women for having a period! Still declare eating certain things like pork and shellfish a sin! Yet growing up I remember never having harm come to me as a young adult when I went to my families church, "Christian Life Center", and they had shrimp, lobster, and oysters at their banquets.
Just because I am no longer christian doesn't mean I don't remember my bible.

Now... Besides the fact that as far as I can tell Romans does condemn homosexuality, why should it make the law? A law that rules over many religions, not just Christians, and catholics?

Julia and Sam are wonderful folks I have met in person. They are wonderful in their stand for non-discrimination and Proposition 8 will end up in a condition of legal injunction, preventing its hurtful enforcement. Proposition 8 is the equivalent of passing a proposition dictating to which religion one may pursue. We do not legislate to meddle with those practicing their religion, why must people attack others for their beliefs when they themselves are never perfect?

Divorce is IRRELEVANT here, because gay couples have the same probs as str8s, except w/o concerns over pregnancy as they can't produce kids. Kids are ENTITLED to both a mother and father and that should be the ideal. Man+woman should remain the ideal as that leads to kids.

My church is big, its the oldest one in Memphis and it is beautiful. gay couples ''can't'' get married there, but legally the government cannot stop them, i am just waiting for a couple to get married there. i will be happy when it happens because my church allows it but my state does not. Yet if the state has a problem they could sue them for their constitutional right of equal protection under the law.

The point is that when dealing with legal affairs, the term "marriage" should not be used due to it's religious affiliation--it's unfair to people who don't have a religion that "marries."
But in addition to this, we must also satisfy the wants of gay and lesbian couples who don't want their relationship to be called something different because it is not equal treatment to have your relationship called something else.
To the church, you can be "married."
To the gov't, "(civilly) unionized."

Let's just take the word "marriage" out of the constitutions and law books. Let's have heterosexual couples call their romantic unification a "civil union," at least on a legal level; it's only fair. Heterosexuals would still be able go get "married" at the church of their choice and still get the legal benefits equal to what is currently called "marriage" today. This is truly equal status under the law--and otherwise.

Would you trade your marriage for a civil union? The Vermont Governor emphatically said no.

The fact that Prop 8 was upheld by the California Supreme Court has no negative impact upon an individual's choice to participate in Monkey Island behavior with another individual who is inclined to participate in the same. The court's ruling does nothing to limit, restrict or prevent the free participation of Monkey Island antics. The ruling only affirms that these behaviors will not be legally defined as marriage in California. Opposition supporters have lost nothing except for their dignity.

minkpank, the CA Supreme Court ruled on the procedure of Prop 8, which is different from its ruling on Prop 22 from 2000 in which it overturned the legal ban on gay marriage then, and in addition, the 5/26/09 ruling also stated that gay marriages performed before 11/4/08 remained legal, so saying that the CA Supreme Court ruled that marriage is between one man and a woman is inaccurate.

If Conservatives actually wanted to protect "traditional marriage" they'd be all for polygamy and incest since they both are quite common in the Bible. But their goal has nothing to do with protecting marriage, it's to prevent gays from having as many rights as possible. They fought adoptions by gays, they fought domestic partnership laws, and now they fight full marriage equality.

When you mention "traditional marriage" (one man and one woman) you are talking about most civilizations around the world, most of which are not Christian.

If the majority of countries that offer marriage are not Christian, then Christian groups cannot claim that marriage is solely a Christian tradition as they like to do. I don't care if YOUR idea of God recognizes my marriage, but my God does and soon so will the State and Federal government.
You know, I can understand how much of the Biblical law has some common sense to it. Murder is wrong because it deprives a person of life and disrupts the lives of the victim's family. Stealing is wrong because it deprives a person of property. THOSE I can see as abominations. But explain to me (in common sense terms, not scripture) how homosexuality is wrong whatsoever.

Homosexuality deprives a person of humanity. Homosexual incest weakens the family structure? It must be nice to hand pick and select your values. If I agree with it, I will abide by it. If I disagree with it, I will belittle and disregard it. You live in a beautiful world!

We all pick our own values. The exception is, I'm not going around attacking people who practise incest. You're the one who is actively belittling and fighting against a group of people for no other than your religious opinions tell you to.

I feel pretty good about myself aside from the hateful comments I endure about me and my "lifestyle." Those can sting.
Unfortunatly a lot of gay people feel terrible about themselves. From the time they are toddlers they hear negative, hateful comments about gays at church, at school, at home. Then they grow up and discover they ARE one of those despised people and they are terrified, terrified that someone will find out, that their parents will disown them, that they are going to hell.

Some gay kids learn to accept themselves, others spend years trying to change only to find they cannot, and sadly others give up on life altogether.
Any lack of humanity involving being gay comes from a vicious, cruel arm of society that attepts to strip homosexuals of their self-worth. Instead of being called son or friend, they are called "abomination." Luckily, many gays and lesbians, myself included, heal from this and go on to live outstanding lives.

I am not going to lash out at you as that would be against my relgious beliefs, which is neither a christian or catholic based religion. I just have some questions. Why does it have to go by your book and your god the rules of marriage which in the eyes of the law is just a joining of people for tax and other benefits via the government, and actually completely without religious interference? The only way religion is added into a marriage is if the couple wills it.

Also how do you know being gay is a choice? Does that mean I can choose to be gay? Or better yet can my husband? If so why can't he stand the idea of sleeping with a man, and I mean he is extremly open minded? And also don't involve god for him as my husband doesn't believe in him either. Also did you know that marriage isn't only a catholic/christian ceremony? It has been around for thousands of years for other religions. So why is it that you treat a word like it is owned by your religion?

It is clearly both. Physical characteristics clearly show that you can be born gay, or be indoctrinated into it via abuse, or sexist hatred. Where you lose your credibility is where you protest in front of Christian Churches, and not Muslim Mosques. Muslims believe you should be publicly beheaded, yet you give them a pass. Must be that the enemy of your enemy is your friend.

The Muslim Mosque near me actually openly accepts gays. Now if we are talking about the ones in other countries, then that isn't surprising as they are not as advanced as America. Also I have never been to a protest infront of a church, I see no point as it isn't the church I have to convince, but those who write the laws of our country.

How do you know? Are you Muslim? Some Mosques are progressive and moving forward. Yes their daugthers are still covered from head to toe almost, but their faces can be seen, and they don't have to wear traditional garb, but they still wear the head covering. In fact I designed a full back tattoo for a Muslim girl I went to school with and her father told me how much he liked it because it was tastefully done. Trying to lump all Muslims in one category is like lumping all Christians in one.

It is written: Leviticus 18:22 "Man shall not lay down with man as he does with woman. It is an abomination." You cannot go through the bible and tear out various pages you don't agree with to accommodate your own lifestyle and call yourself a Christian. A true Muslim cannot do the same with the Koran. Progressive? God's word is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow. There are 10 COMMANDMENTS. Not 10 suggestions or ammendments.

So if you cannot just pick and choose words from teh bible, why do christians have two kinds of crops growing in a field, or wear blends of cloth? "...do not plant your field with two kinds of seed. Do not wear material woven of two kinds of material." (Leviticus 19:19)
What about eating shellfish? "But all in the seas or in the rivers that do not have fins and scales, all that move in the water or any living thing which is in the water, they are an abomination to you." (Leviticus 11:10)

I guess Marines with their haircuts cannot serve god either. "Do not cut the hair at the sides of your head or clip off the edges of your beard." (Leviticus 19:27)
And that men that find their girl having a period should be cast out of the country. "If a man lies with a woman during her sickness and uncovers her nakedness, he has discovered her flow, and she has uncovered the flow of her blood. Both of them shall be cut off from her people." (Leviticus 20:18)

Your right Christianity hasn't changed at all! They still stone women for having a period! Still declare eating certain things like pork and shellfish a sin! Yet growing up I remember never having harm come to me as a young adult when I went to my families church, "Christian Life Center", and they had shrimp, lobster, and oysters at their banquets.
Just because I am no longer christian doesn't mean I don't remember my bible.

What's your point? Do you really need the bible to tell you not to eat lobster? A lobster on land is a Cockroach. It is the cockroach of the sea. And if you REALLY knew your bible, you would know that Leviticus is in the OLD TESTAMENT. The old testament is Hebrew. Christianity is from the NEW TESTAMENT. Romans 1:26 - 1:27 defines the Christian prohibition of homosexualty. Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death. aka-Aids.

Well I don't have to worry about eating a cockroach from the sea as I am allergic, but I brought Leviticus up because you did. Yet as soon as I bring up points you cannot argue you turn your eyes to the fact that you quoted him as part of your arguement.
Now... Besides the fact that as far as I can tell Romans does condemn homosexuality, why should it make the law? A law that rules over many religions, not just Christians, and catholics?
