Please tell me you guys can tell very easily what happened. Obvious stooge, with him telling the lady what to do, and him waiting on her to pick the right person.
When Brown does things like this, I'm actually disappointed.
um if i was the lady on the street who was questioned about stopping i would be wondering why the fck ppl are questioning me for stopping a few minutes b4. clearly she is acting and not very well i might add. i beleive in magicians and hypnotists but this is clearly staged.
When Derren presses his hand on hers and starts talking he is adding all kinds of hypnotic suggestions along with a typical confusion technique (see Ericksonian hypnosis) and physical and visual anchors (hand on shoulder and snapping of his fingers). The hand he was pressing against her's could have been a cue telling her how many steps to take. He puts her hand right in her view of the window before telling her to look out of it.
As for the woman outside; I think she is either a stooge or someone that was hypnotized beforehand. Notice that his arm raises when he's talking about the Christmas decorations. I suspect that he points to his head when he says that which is a cue to pic out the girl with the striped hat (which looks somewhat like a Christmas tree ornament).

at that point from across the room he uses some suggestive language to freeze her feet. They cut that out.
last part they make her count down from 3 so they can radio the actor to stop on time
@kamerawerks I agree with you. It's not the same guy. I don't know what's going on with that guy that said that it was a Stooge. He didn't even have the right timing on the video. He said it was at 2:16. I think he is smoking something other than cigarettes. Cheers!

Ok - I just tried to post a really long explaination of this trick, but it was way to long to actually opst. So instead, I will say this is probably one his easiest tricks. Stop loving him so much and allowing yourself to be duped by his lies (or misdirection) and it's very obvious. Still a good trick in essence though, as it gets the right reaction - and that's what tricks are about.

look at the wierd looking symbol on the lamp post nxt to wer the woman stops. it looks like a roman numeral ' II '. consider this: a massive billboard is put up further down the street with that same symbol on it and the words 'STOP YOUVE FORGOTTON SOMETHING'. wen the lady with the red hat sees the symbol on lampost it is mentally anchored to the words alredy mentioned... Just one explanation that uses nlp not hired actors
i think derren may be cud be hinting as to how this is done at 0:05 wen he shows the red traffic light next to his clasped hand. i think the whole street is set up in a way that it would influence someone to stop, such as red evrywer- red being associated to 'stop' just another possible theory
Maybe that girl outside is an actor. Derren may have given the woman suggestions with NLP to choose that specific person. He may have planned the first failure also to make it less obvious.

I can't think of a single logical explanation to how Derren Brown might get a random woman off the streek make another random woman off the street stop at her will, and therefore at his. jk3319, if you are going to shut down possible explanations, why don't you propose some ideas of your own using some of your raw facts. The only thing that I suspect that was done to the woman is that she got into a light trance, and when she sees his hand closes, she stops. How it can happen, well that is the reason he stands in the window, the shadow of his hand is being displayed on the floor. How the woman outside stops well this I can't explain.

I can explain the first part. Watch when he says to put her palm against his palm, listen to what he says, its just basic NLP. In that speech about the stockings, he says it really fast and if you listen carefully he is suggesting to her "stopping" he says this instead of stocking, he also mentions putting the brakes on and near the end he says put all that in the back of your mind. anyway, hope that helps. any more questions?
