I heard that in order for it to be an actual teslacoil you'd need white sparks instead of purple. No idea why, but does anyone know if there is any truth to this?

@Lleanlleawrg who ever told you that does not know what they are talking about, a tesla coil is a high voltage resonate transformer, solid state tesla coils can produce yellow sparks.

i dont think he has a spark gap or a toroid, but, other than that, TECHNICALLY its a tesla coil, even though it doesnt act like one. Still, you gotta admit that even corona discharge looks cool

@KittyRokher no, no spark gap but yes about the toroid; it's more like a safer neon light transformer. A detailed picture of the transformer can be seen in the video description along with my electronic noobskills :X
