  • i fucking love this guy for making these helpful videos.

  • i just learned there are 50 of these video! i might actually have a shot at getting into guitar collage now.

  • 76 man, need to keep practicing...

  • I got 85. Thank you for everything, Andrew!

  • nice haircut

  • Hope u can have more lesson. It helps me A LOT!!!

  • I got 3, what is this?

  • 84 only - I feel a little mediocre. I lost 6 points for confusing harmonic and melodic minor (good thing is, that's never going to happen again now) and lots of points out of pure stupidity (which is going to happen again...).

Thank you so much for doing this! You are an amazing teacher!

  • 86 but I made silly mistakes like not noticing bass clef in eight exercise :(

  • I GOT AN 88!!! I thought I was going to fail!!! But with a great teacher like you, I understood everything so well!!! Hate treble clef though (I play bassoon)... But STILL!! I am VERY happy with my results!! Need to study rythm more though....

  • I got a 67. to be honest i didnt study that hard. but i feel good that i passed. I'm going to keep learning music theory.

  • I did some really silly mistakes and I got 74.

there are somethings I found object able or correctable. first when we talked about melodic minors you didn’t really showed us how it looks like on descend.

second the triads were not really clear, especially the minors. I still didn’t understood the B chord in g#- scale. why xF ???

but this exam really cleared up somethings. I’m really thankful to you. you’re a very humble teacher. thanks a lot sir.

  • Haircut:)

  • I got 81. Better than I expected (began watching your lessons 2 days ago lol) I can't thank you enough for taking the time and energy making these videos for us, you're an amazing person, and a great teacher!

  • Yaaaaaaaaaaaaay!! I did very well, scored a 96... I messed a lot of the harmonic intervals... I realized a little too late that I misunderstood some things about that lesson, so I'll go back and restudy harmonic intervals.

Thanks a lot for spending your time preparing free courses for us :D... I was just wondering, I see that you cover three levels in your courses, are there more advanced levels after level three, I mean outside of your channel?

  • Dang it! I got a 68%. I guess I can't complain seeing how I started these videos in october and I didn't really review. Some were careless mistakes others I just forgot the rules - mostly on rhythm. Glad you made a review though, now I know what sunk in and what didn't. Thanks!

  • in the correcting mistakes, instead of adding that dot to the quarter rest i changed the last note to a quarter note instead of an eight so it would fit into the bar.

do i have to count this as a mistake?

  • From D to F double sharp can it also be a perfect fourth? at 35:40

And also the D flat to E natural can it be a major sixth?

And my score is 61, so i guess that I passed but i need to review some of things about rhythm and triads and advanced intervals. Thanks for making this exam, it helped me a lot in knowing how much music theory do I know, I learned everything from your videos, and it's a little hard for me because my "mother" language isn't English, I'm from Romania, but, I can handle it.

  • Great work man!

  • exam day (x_x)

    oh no..

  • I'm currently on level 3 (lesson 39 or something) but I didn't do music theory for a while so felt I needed to repeat level 1 & 2. So far I've repeated level 1 and just did this exam my 2nd time. I've got 97/100 now. I've made a mistake at one of the "fill in rest" exercises and also made a mistake with the correcting exercise (the dotted quarter rest). Time to repeat level 2!

  • @10:25 You have 2 whole notes inside each measure on your treble staff.

Should that not be 2 half notes instead?

I'm just messin with ya. i know you separated them for purpose and not with actual bar lines. lol

  • 100% !! I havent even watched any of your videos before haha. i just found this and decided to take it. isn't fair that ive been doing this for about 5 years though :p

  • 87/100!

I missed 4 points on merging the rests. I didn't see the dot on the last measure for the 3/4. On the first measure of the 6/8 time, I built the sixteenth rest backwards. I didn't know it mattered. I missed 3 points on the correction part. I missed 6 on triads. (Messed up a scale and stuff).

I don't recall you ever teaching us how to descend the scales, so I kind of skipped that... Also, why did you raise the F# to a Fx on the 4th triad? It was in the minor scale, not the harmonic minor.

  • I got 82/100 Most of my mistakes had to do with notation, an then I propbably should double check my answers, especially those tricky triads!

Just going through the correct answers helped me with those things I missed the first time.

    Thank you!

  • Hey Lypur, thank you so much for the time and effort you've put in making these video. My instrument is the guitar and lessons have helped tremendously. Oh yeah, you do say "basically" and "anyway" quite often; but it's all good. I appreciate your efforts nonetheless. I'm on Level 2

  • I'm thrilled to see that so many people are beginning to learn the most profound of the arts, music =) keep up the good work!

  • well done Andrew, Haven't grasped, some of the advanced scales etc, that went over my head completely. but had a go at the exam, and realise how important the theory is. So am going back to the drawing board, through all the videos, and will have another bash. Keep up the good work, you are a treasure. Love and God Bless

  • your hair style is awesome. I'am a baby boomer and my nephew watches those cartoons from Japan ,lots of action, and your hair reminds me of those action heroes. My generation was all about long hair because it pissed off the powers that be.Also, I been putting off this theory thing for a long time. Thus, thanks for making it easier on this old hippie .

  • Nice videos!

I'm just wondering, is this the equivalent of RCM grade 1 theory?

  • Hi Andrew,

I really enjoyed this music theory lessons.

I did 75%. Rhythm, intervals and triads need more dedication

Thanks a lot and see you in level 2.

  • second time i got 88, nice

  • 68/100 aww damn :(

  • @CouldYouImagine dont feel bad homie, i got the same too.

  • Lypur, thanks a lot for the effort and work of putting these videos together. I've been learning a lot from them.

  • I got 74 out of 100, but I am not native english speaker, I have never heard anything about music theory before except all your theory lessons... And considering I have watched them once each and never did any of the homework I think you are pretty good teacher.. Actually not pretty good, you are THE BEST EVER!!! :D If I werent from Europe, I would have come to see u in person... U are nice of doing all of this for free, taking of your time, and spending it for people whom u even dont see(hug)

  • So for a 6/8 that would be for a waltz?

  • i got 80/100! and aint givin up! im gonna review the videos where im weak at and sit this exam again! thanks Andrew! your awsome!

  • learning music theory i am : ) (said like yoda) lol

  • 84/100 with a total crash on the triads :)))

  • Hello across the world from Bangkok, Thailand.

I've done some music theory when I was young but I've forgotten most of the contents (those from your 9-10th video on, I think). I'd kind of like to revive the knowledge and then I found your video series!

The content are well explained and schematized. I watch all the vids in a row to retrieve back what I've learnt long ago. (I also took the exam and I've got 91!!!)

I would recommend your vids to those who are interested.

    PS. Your adorable!

  • I got 85 I've been watching the videos of piano (up to lesson #26) and music theory for about 2 or 3 months, and "playing" piano for 3 months. I mostly messed up on the advanced intervals and triads I still don't get the rules completely

  • @GlorietaT Keep practicing! You'll get better!! :) 85 is still pretty good!!!

  • Wow! You cut your hair! I like it though!

  • aw man 76/100 better review it....

  • your hair what happened!!

  • Say Andrew,

Isn't the upside-down G cleff correct for inversions? LOL

    U.W.

  • does youtube give out awards? if so, he should be first. =)

  • I skipped to the middle and backed right off of this vid to run back to find the ones I skipped before I attempt the "Exam of Doom". Glad I stumbled upon this (recommending to others) and grateful for all your work on this series - it's so very well done!

  • 51!!:)

  • So WOW... I've been going at it hard for 3 days.. Andrew you are THE MAN..

Should I or should I not take the exam now? Even though I am through all 22 lessons and have a grasp of everything It's only been 3 days and about 30 hours of study, and so I am still not fast in calculating the expressions, determining keys, etc..

I should have done my homework I know... But I hate it soooooo much... I don't have any staff paper, so I would have to make 10000 staffs myself.. I did some though.

  • @IloveJesusYesId0 I also read your Bio and stuff, what an inspiring story.. I had a month of my life taken when I was 11, from an inflamed appendix, that affected me a lot, can't imagine going through what you have bro.. I loved making music, badly, on guitar only, but never really had the support, inspiration, or confidence to try reading music. It always seemed way too complicated. Ended up selling my instrument years ago, one of those quitters you talked about. Now I need a keyboard!

  • @IloveJesusYesId0 This might be a little late, but I think you can google blank staff sheets and save some time.

  • If I fail will I be expelled? I have to keep watching your vids and i don't wanna start the whole first year again... I'm just a bit concerned.

  • Woo I got a 72 ^_^ I thought I was gonna fail completely cuz I couldn't exactly tell what was written in the correcting the mistakes part. (and some others) Well, didn't do as bad as I figured I would.

Thanks for making these. You have NOO idea how helpful they are. Good day ^_^

  • I got 92/100, I thought I had everything right but I failed a little in a few places. In the rhythm part I failed with two of the bars that had to be filled in with rests. Also I didn't manage to correct the tricky thing in the correct the mistakes part. And also I made a small mistake in the harmonic interval part and finally I forgot a sharp for one of the triads. Still it's a great result imo and I learnt some minor details that I missed before.

  • @Rickeeey1 :) wow! very good job! Had you done theory before or did you learn from the beginning with the videos?

  • @Lypur

Well I've been playing piano for over 1,5 years now but I never had a piano teacher so I knew some random music theory that I found on the internet (some of it from your piano lesson series). But I found your music theory videos much more helpful as you explain everything in a great way, the videos are organized in a good way and it's much easier to understand than just reading on the internet or in a book.

  • @Lypur

So eventhough some of this stuff was just repetition I've still benefited from watching the all the videos and doing the homework as I've forgot some of it but the homework makes it easier to remember and understand. Still I've learnt alot of new things too like scale degrees, the difference between natural, harmonic and melodic minor scales etc. Looking forward to lerning the other levels of rudiments (dunno if it's spelled this way) and harmony (if you decide to teach it).

  • thank you very much Andrew you are a Godsend.

  • Thankyou so much for all your videos!

I've watched all the level 1 videos and look forward to your level 2 videos. They've helped me get 68/100 in the exam! I was a bit leniant on myself though, with the double bar lines, I didn't think I had to put them in so I let myself off... I know, I'm bad... ;)

Hey, thanks again for your efforts, it's really nice to see someone go out of their way to help people out!

    Take care!

  • This was harder than exams on music theory i've taken at my school....

  • Hey Andrew!! Thanks for posting these videos of Music Theory...You're amazing as a teacher and as a musician

Hope you post part 2 soon!! I really need it..!!

    Greetings from Mexico!!

  • I was wondering, when would next video come out cause i m dying to get that, i check everyday here to find out that, thanks Piece :D

And by the way You r Great.

  • :) i had some computer problems and also a tooth problem. I think I might film some new lesson today and maybe get one out in the next few days. ^_^ Sorry for the delay man!

  • hey andrew this is camry again. I have a youtube! I started piano when I was 13 and I was wondering about when I would take the real music exam. I'm really good in music so I bet that I would ace the real thing. Does a piano teacher give the student an official exam thing or does the student have to go to a certain location and take it? i'm really curious about this.

  • ooooo you cut your hair... :(

    like all your videos ;)

    thank you :P

  • I found a mistake in your answer and posted it yesterday, but somehow my comment did not show up. So here it is again:

In the answer to scales, the A# minor scale should have been harmonic (not mel as written in your white board).

Anyway, it was a good exam and very much appreciated!! I got a final score of 82!!

  • your lessons are great! Thank you very much! and please do make an exam for level 2 and for the rest of the levels. It's all very helpful.=)

  • Dude I told you once that you were one of the greatest people on earth;but the comment didn't show up,so I'll say it again!

  • :) thanks man! actually the other one did show up, it just lagged a bit probably!

Thanks for the comment though! I'm really glad you find my work helpful!

  • Dude you are one of the greatest people on earth!

  • I got a 66/100. :S

Probably because I skipped many lessons I thought I already knew, and I didn't do all of my homework.

  • well! ^_^ you still passed. :) Although, if you're not happy with your mark, you could go over and review some of the sections you didn't do as well on. ^_^

  • @Lypur Yeah! Thanks again f or all the HARD work you put into your lessons; I've recentely watched your "behind the scenes" video, and found it very interesting! :D 4 Hours for one lesson?! Wow! Thanks so much! I can tell you are very passionate about your work, and I think we can all agree that you do an awesome job!

    ~

  • No cheating XD! Lol you've got to be pretty.,.. uh interesting to think you can cheat.

  • found this video helpful? This is the most useful video for Level 1. you know what when I Saw that exam video has come, i did not watch it that day, i went back and study all day and night long and review all of your lessons from 1-22, i was feeling so great,

Now i have finished the exam, thank to god that i m not fail, thanks to you too cause teacher comes before god,

But i didnt like that part when you said that no exam for Level 2.

exam is a part of class. keep them always pls pls pls

  • :) wow! I'm glad the video was so helpful for you. Then I might just do another exam for level 2! ^_^ Just wondering, what was your final mark?

  • Oh my god, Thank you so much for that, and my Final Marks was 76/100, i think it is C grade, but i thing i want to tell you that when i was writing the question down on my paper then i dont know how but i wrote some question different from yours, so those ans were right but technically those r wrong, so i did not add them as in my mark, so i got Pure 76/100

would you like to tell me what grade is this I think It is C, isn't it,

    Thanks again

    Piece :D

  • :) 76 would be "Honors"

  • Comment removed

  • maybe u wanna correct that at minute 40 the scale is A# - harmonic, not melodic.. thank u for everything, 5 stars as always

  • oops! thanks for letting me know!

  • DOOM EXAM FTW!

  • "The EXAM OF DOOM!" Nice one, that made me laugh so hard.

  • Thank-you! You have helped me tons. Many thanks and please keep it up.

  • thanks, Im going to wait a while before starting this exam, I need more practice jejeje.

thanks for this incledible unit teacher, It is an honor to be your student.

I cant wait for the next one jejeje but I wont hesitate, I want to make sure that i have learned everything perfectly

    again thank you

  • omg gosh 51 minutes! wowo haha

  • Thank you so much for your work. I can see that it is tremendous amount of work.

I had minor problems for questions 1, 2 3, 4 , 5, 6, 7 and 10. For questions 8 and 9, the minor scales through me off a bit, the bigger problem is the speed. I could figure it out, it just took too long than it should have.

I do believe exams always help the study. I feel much better after the review.

I look forward for Level two lessons.

    Thanks again.

  • "The Exam of Doom!"
