His physical state is dismal, exhausted, and weak. I always wondered how a person who's lost everything with no reason to hope for recovery finds the will to carry on. I shouldn't have let his appearance fool me, because his will to survive never left. It is just deep within him, and it only revealed itself when he played the piano.
@CologneJohn How the hell would you know that? Have you seen it happen? Were you the 13 year old? If they catch your father or mother saying that he/she raped someone, its on the news, everybody hates him/her, but you would still believe he/she is innocent wouldn't you? Don't just take everything they say, they did it with micheal jackson to. Micheal never raped or abused anyone. And we know it...
@CologneJohn I'm just saying that you shouldn't believe everything they say without even knowing what's going on at all. Wikipedia could say that i'm a rapist, a murderer, and it would be on the news. Everybody will believe it, cause i'm just a murderer and rapist, why would they believe me? Please don't say that you know he did it, cause you don't. Just let the police do their research, you haven't got anything to do with it. I'm not trying to insult you, just giving my reaction.
This scene made the whole movie for me. This man had lived through the hellish reality of war where the luxury of using his incredible talent was denied by the death and madness around him. At the moment that he has lost all hope, his capturer bids him to play, and all of the years of horror that he has witnessed pour out of him in a great tide. This scene could move even a hardened man to tears.
This scene reminds me of the final scene with Schindler, the moment when he realized the enormity of those whom he couldnt save. I think in this moment, the officer asked him to play not for his own indulgence but as a requiem for the dead. I think he also knew that the braid on his shoulder would hold him accountable and all his good deeds forgotten.
@Joeasia1981 Perhaps in order to show him that genius and beauty of music doesnt depend on whether you are a German, a Pole or a Jew, but whether you are a human. And i think the German officer realize that he's far away from that...
Haha! It's true! Although Wilm Hosenfeld wouldn't have killed him in any case. He was a real noble man, and saved about 10 Jews and Polish POW's during the war.
Incredible scene to which my friend said "he's being a little self indulgent isn't he"
NO! I couldn't believe it. Anyway, stellar performance. It's always great to hear of people like Wilm Hosenfeld, light at the end of the fucking tunnel.
@elyeicob German people it's a fucking crap??! I am French, therefore from one of the countries that fought the most against Germany during WWII and I think you are ridiculous to condemn a whole people because of the madness of one man.
@oystermouth64 The madness of one man drove millions to follow. It is always just one bad egg that spoils the rest. (Not condemning the people i am just stating what one rotten one does.)
@oystermouth64 yeah german people still being a fukin crap I'm from Mexico and I suggest you not to defend this monsters, these people could piss on your face whitout remorce, Had not past a generation even these people hates all over the nations please don't be fool and justify this maggots from the nowhere. I like europe but this culture have evil in their eyes man, and don't you doubt that if they decide to beggin a new war would begin with your beautiful France again haha
@moonsmilelucide Yea...Yet...The USA could completely EXTERMINATE your puny country...The only country that could even get close to hurting the US is China...
@Leiloproof so what are your saying? I was not even talking about who can hurt the US or who is the stronger country, are you just trying to make things up to sound cool?
@moonsmilelucide I know what they did in the past superficially, better for them to we forget it and I look above about my country and my place every day and is a violent and serious situation every day, did you know "americans" as you know'em gives powerful weapons to the criminals of narcotrafic here in Mexico? Same hate the german people felt on these days is now in Americans I think this mental madness comes from caucasic people. I hope taliban people to destroy USA forever
I have my speakers on and when I start the other videos from the pianist, I get Blasted with a commercial, that really makes me mad. Such a price to pay to hear The Pianist, ... might as well buy the CD and avoid this nerver wracking stuff.
The relationship between a human and its instrument, only musicians know the feeling, the feeling that when you played for such a long time, its the instrument playing not you. So deep.
@babyboosabz...that is the same actor who played the German officer in "Valkyrie"..the one who went to Goebbels estate to arrest him, and then wound up speaking to Hitler.
make a movie about how Americans kill Afghan civilians and how Israelis kill innocent Palestinians......... Nazis were Christians by the way you forgetting
This is what makes us, human, and not some random animal.
Words aren't enough to describe what happening inside us when we are watching and listening to this. Even if it's a shorter version, I must admit it is the best final of that piece I've ever heard. I like it when it is intense... and it is very intense!!
This song encorporates the many facets of life that make you question what is justifably right and what matters. In this moment you clearly see the German question himself on what really is correct and what matters.
