it was a short closeout? why is that special, and why do you call it a tuberide when he didn't come out. i know thats all the crappy wedge really offers but please dont false advertise
You're right. But come on, though. That was a bad ass drop and he hit the line amazingly well for what it's worth on that shitty closeout. That takes skill.
you know it's big and sketchy when Tom Curren asks one of the Wedge crew guys what the best way to paddle in is. He was legitimately worried about the insane current pulling towards the rocks. Something that Monte was unaware of before he tried to paddle out during a set which ultimately cost him his life.
Most people dont know the power of the ocean. and the unpredictability of mother ocean. I've had epic days 15 foot at La Jolla with offshores and never even thought of danger and I've surfed 8 foot ground swells with unpredictable rogues and intense power and almost paddled in.
10 foot wedge is a moster. Non-Surfers will never understand how dangerous the surf is, even at 8 foot when it's packing the punch.
Your Mark Foo reference would cause Mark to overturn in his grave. Mark was an extremely experience surfer that was killed because his leash go caught on the rocks below. Monte, RIP, was an unexperienced bodysurfer that tried to paddle out during a very large set of waves. I was there to witness the tragedy and hope that people learn a lesson as to knowing what their limits are. Monte SHOULD NOT have tried to go out that day PERIOD.
you're right i didn't know him but for you to compare each of their deaths is absolutely rediculous. Mark Foo knew what he was doing and was comfortable in the conditions he died in, Monte on the other hand, was not. trust me, i was 5 feet away from him when he died and saw the fear in his face when he waved for the lifeguards to come help him. don't be so defensive mr. "skull"...i'm only trying to make a point.

Anyone get the name of that guy that ate the rocks at wedge in the huge swell friday? Horrible news.
Some *sshole on another wedge video was dissing him saying he probably sucked and shouldn't have been out there.
I replied to him.... do you remember Mark Foo? He deserved to be out at Maverick's but that wave took his life too.
Does anyone know who the surfer was that left us friday at wedge? Someone from Cali needs to find and do him a memorial video.
