  • Hehe, I love this piece :)

  • When I heard it first time it lured the big smile on my face.

  • sick

  • what delay/arpeggiated effect is applied to your Igil? I'd love to apply it to my cello!!

  • @giveupthepfunk I used an AdrenaLinn 2 guitar processor by Roger Linn. Now I use the upgraded AdrenaLinn 3 for it. :)

  • @oddmusic Is it one of the factory presets

    or one of your own?

  • @TheLastSaneManLeft A little tweaking here and there from a standard AdrenaLinn 2 preset.

  • Phat beats dude,....love that drum line...did you program it urself into a drum mech,...or on a digi studio or somthing???....

  • @54luke Thanks! I used a program from Steinberg called Groove Agent to put the beats together. It's not that widely used much, but it worked out well for this song :)

  • godlike

  • I feel so inspired from watching this, you're truly incredible. when i'm famous, you will receive full recognition.

  • Deep man! This sounds WAY more wicked than an electric guitar (coming from a metal fan). I love your music, keep up the AWESOME work!

  • Instra-favorited

  • Got back again to this...

Keep doing your stuff, man! The world needs more of this and you already gave me some inspiration for my music...

  • The sound is so great - I like this song since a long time and I return to it again and again :-)

  • this would sound amazing in an experimental band!

  • I wanted to buy your records on the website, but no one answered my mail... How can I get them?

  • I wanted to buy your records on the website, but no one answered my mail...

  • Beautiful!

  • very nice song the sound is so awesome !!!

  • @smacks029 Why thank you Smacks! :)

  • Coool work - Thx !

  • This is a Persian instrument called CHANG and also you can look up SETAR sounds good

  • Actually it's an igil, not a chang, and it's a tuvan instrument.

  • Sounds like something tool would do. I love this.

  • @ThePrimusGuy and he looks like adam jones will in 20 years or so..

  • Very awesome!, If i can find out how to get a hold of one of these beautiful instruments I may try pick it up and learn it! Way to inspire others to add some culture to the bland noise we all know as music! keep it up.

  • Woah o.O

    Sounds AWESOMEEEE :D

  • I love this song. Nicely played! 5 Stars for th'you! ;D

  • Thanks!

  • how much would one of these instruments cost?... and where would you get them/replacement strings for them?

  • your welcome1 (=^.^=)

  • Is this thing really single threaded or its just group's name?

  • It has two strings, and each string is 50-90 separate strands, that add a lot of harmonics to the sound.

  • thats plain aesome dude

  • very sick props

  • I love it soo soo much!!!

  • Dang, that's tight grinding crunchy metallic harmonic distortion. I want to see that waveform.

  • that's damn good scotch my friend.

  • i want to learn how to play this instrument but cant seem to find were to buy one?

  • nice, :) is it gusle ? where did you get it from ?

keep it up good work, :)))))

  • Thank you. No, it's not a gusle, it's an "igil" from the country of Tuva. I got it in the US from Aldar Tamdyn of the Tuvan throat-singing group called Chirgilchin when they were touring a few years ago. :)

  • :)look almost like gusle, instrument people play in balkan, anyway, it is all about how we play then what we play, and you prove that sooo well, thank you, so nice to see and hear some music, nice and simple ,

    thank you :)

  • Yeaaaah, but... there's a lot of signal processing going on behind the scenes to get all the crunchy goodness. Without the electronics, the exact same song would not sound nearly the same.

  • I love it ! :-)

  • Awesome music! The RCA Dog was a nice touch too...

  • very impressive ... thanks for posting :)

  • wtf is that?

  • An electric igil.

  • ANYONE UP? I NEED SOMEONE TO TALK TO

    great vid xa

  • Wicked music man...freaking awesome

  • Hey John!! I got an Igil! I knew I could buy a HAPI Drum after the whole back-orders thing gets settled, but an Igil was on ebay from muza, so I had to buy it when it only had 2 hours left on the auction :P

  • Hey john, you're awesome with your igil!

how you create thath effected sound?

What kind of program have you used?

    Greetings for your activity also.

Keep on rockin' in a free world!

    Without fear!

  • oh, ummm on your preflight CD, are the tracks full or are they short samples? And it says your 'real' cd is coming out in late 2008. Well, its late. . . .so is it out yet?

  • holy shit! You are a god! I love music like this, I'm buying your stuff! :)

  • love it

  • where can I get an igil?

    looks like fun

  • is that just a piezo pickup you dropped at the bridge?

  • exactly, it's a very thin flexible pickup that slides under the bridge, made for violin, gives a lot of bass response too.

  • hey thanks for the quick response, thats very cool i think I'm gonna have to get one of those to play with. enjoy watching all of your musical creations, keep up the good work.

  • want to chat?

  • nope

  • lol so direct

  • This was one of the first videos that I saw of you

had it saved on my hard drive to playback all the time

i noticed that dog's in your videos all the time (0=

    lucky charm?

  • Thanks! yeah, kind of, the dog weaseled his way onto the first few videos, and now he demands equal time! :)

  • Fkin awesome 5/5

  • all i picture is everything in slow mo. eyes glancing. close ups on faces, camera slowly passing by faces and by the bar, closely following its main subject. and everything would tend to manifest itself.

  • I am loving most of your music man, i appreciate you putting it on youtube and taking the time to share it with us. Thank you :) until earlier today i had never heard of a igil or a hapi drum. ^^ now im intrigued

  • I think it is a single stringed electric modified ukelele, I could be wrong

  • Actually it's a traditional folk instrument from the country of Tuva, and it's called an "igil". 2-strings having 50 and 90 parallel strands of nylon for the high and low string, which give it a lot of natural harmonics.

  • and I thought playing the guitar would be cool, but this definitely tops it easy. nice playing! where could I buy a good igil online?

  • There is nothing odd with this music. This stuff is inspirational, experimental and great.

  • do you need a computer to use the adrenalinn 3?

  • Nope, it's a standalone box, you can learn more at: rogerlinndesign (dot) com

You can program it via midi with a computer and an editor that another company makes though, but you can do it all from the box, though it takes some getting used to since the 4 knobs can do a lot of different functions.

  • thx ill check it out

  • wow it's great :D I love it !!

  • thanks!

  • You are really amazing at this, I could never have thought of using a TWO STRING instrument to make such awesome music like this.

    I SALUTE YOU!

  • Thank you very much!

  • That's realy impresing! You're great.

  • why thank you! :)

  • beautiful

  • very nice! :)

    You play hang too?

I'm looking for a hang, but there very expensive and hard to find...

I don't really like the Hapi drum, it sounds to 'metalic' for me, and not spiritual.

  • Thanks! Yes, I play the Hang, I got one years ago when they came in the mail and were only around $300. Almost impossible to find now, saw one go on Ebay for $6000 a few days ago!

  • jaja d nada!!

  • cool, glad you like it, and thanks for the comments too

  • Very interesting sound!

    I like it.

  • Cool, glad you like it, feel free to subscribe if you'd like, I'll have another finally with the Hang in a few days :)

  • well i have 2 admid that this is..awesome^^

  • Thank you!

  • It seems as if you're changing pitch when you're sustaining just one note. How do you do that?

  • The sound signal goes through a filter that removes different harmonics out of the normal sound, kind of like what a wah-wah pedal does on an electric guitar, but this does it in rhythmic steps synchronized to the beat, instead of sweeping like a pedal would. So the pitch is staying the same, but the changes in harmonics gives it a feeling of movement.

  • I can hear it now. That's very cool. I've seen people make that sweeping sound with a wah pedal to a very specific rythym by stepping on the pedal on every beat. Are you doing it manually like that or programming a rhythm into the effect before you start playing?

  • what an interesting instrument. sounds awsome.

  • thank you!

  • I think I will have to make a folder just for your music. Thanks again from Australia :-)

  • kool

  • Wow. I've never seen anything like this before. Badass!

  • great song love your style!

  • This is stunning in its beauty.

  • Thanks Robert!

  • Absolutely amazing, I've alway thought of different instruments being hooked up electronically, but never of anything like this.

The range is amazing, and what you are doing with it is just the same.

  • Very Cool!

  • Awesome!!

  • thanks, you big happy geek! :)

  • haha lol

  • nicenicenicenicenice.. imported, did u make it OR did someone else make the instrument? Tone is absolutely unique , *************!!!!!

  • thanksthanksthanks! :) The instrument is called an "igil" ... it's from a little country called Tuva, and is traditionally used to accompany their type of singing (called throat-singing), and traditionally played acoustically. Fell in love with the traditional sound, but now I do my own thing with it and like to experiment.

  • absolutely sounds great!

  • I love this music. Thanks for sharing this great talent! Great music!

  • I love this music. Thanks for sharing this great talent! Great music!

  • Three(most likely silly) questions: Where do you get one of those instruments? I've got a decent mastering system set up and wouldn't mind trying my hand at it. Second, is there a specific tuning for this instrument/song? And what software are you using to apply the effects?

If you can't tell, I'm really quite impressed. Great song/effects!

  • I think thats a one stringed African guitar. You have to import it. Hes has mic'ed it up and is using a echo reverb to get the sound. You can do it on any music program that supports it.

I agree, Fantastic. I've just sent this video out to all my friends, and thats about 341 of them so lets hope they like it too.

    -Alec Fleming

  • Love the music, and I can't wait to hear the new song your working on.

  • Thanks very much for the comment. For Tuvan music, do a search for "Huun Huur Tu" and "Chirgilchin", two of the most prominent tuvan groups. Also search for "Lament of the Igil". Their music can be slow ballads, and very lively songs about horses. You'll almost always hear their style of singing, called throat-singing... where they get very low tones, or sing 2-3 tones at the same time, kind of like whispy harmonics, which is why the igil has so much in the way of harmonics.

  • brilliant... simply brilliant!!! love the distorted sound on this track and just cant get over the eerie feel on the other ones! made my bro hear "a single thread" and now he's totally hooked on to it!! absolutely great going John!!

  • thanks kaz! nice to hear how other people interpret the music, that instrument like to be a little eerie, and cry out to be heard :)

  • dude

    simple but

    i think

    effective!

    elegant

  • thank you!

  • you must play more metal or rock with this instrument!!subscribin u!!

  • thanks for subscribing, the song I'm working on now is the heaviest one I've ever done on this instrument, so it should be inline hopefully in about a week :)
