  • My serbian great grdpa Milorad Mirkovic did both World Wars! At this time Serbia was the Friend and Ally of France , but next french presidents forgot their Friendship with Serbia,... My great grdpa died at the second World War killed by Germans as a hero to save France <3 I don't hate germans , english or whoever :)! May this photos will stay the symbol of Brootherhood and fuck those politicians!!!

  • I hate how WW1 was just forgotten in the world. Sure we still study it and learn about it. But its all about WW2 for some reason. WW1 was more brutal and deadly than WW2 to me. (With all the new ways they created to kill each other, ex: Aircraft, Poison Gas, submarine warfare *even though they were used earlier. I mean actual warfare not recon/stuff like that* More accurate weapons, tanks, mass production of Machine guns etc...)

  • "The next time we met was at Appomattox, and the first thing that General Grant said to me when we stepped inside, placing his hand in mine was, "Pete, let us have another game of brag, to recall the days that were so pleasant." Great God! I thought to myself, how my heart swells out to such magnanimous touch of humanity. Why do men fight who were born to be brothers?"

General James Longstreet talking about General Ulysses S. Grant after his death, New York Times, July 24, 1885.

  • I keep coming back to listen to this....so moving!

  • This is "Hymne des Fraternisés: I'm dreaming of home", by Natalie Dessay, on Amazon. So y'all can find it.

  • Here dead we lie

    Because we did not choose

To live and shame the land

    From which we sprung.

    Life, to be sure,

    Is nothing much to lose,

But young men think it is,

    And we were young.

    AE Housman

  • No matter what, ultimately, we are all humans - of the same blood

  • The soldiers of WW1, they have one thing in common. They all where stuck in the same hell.

  • this song is rele quiet but i like it so much i want to use it in my project

  • This video is dedicated to all the beligerents of WW1 who fought and died for their countries. Rest in peace Veterans of WW1.

  • we saw the movie joyeux Noel in school. it was the best movie i have ever seen. and this was the best song from it. it realy touches my heart. is has a emotinal message.

    Greatings from Sweden.

    May be Peace Last Forever

  • we're all dreaming of home. a goupr i hold near to me is WWI vets, and I know what they are dreaming: of a home.

  • Adolf Hitler has 4 YouTube accounts

  • @Cookiefant, Amen.

  • Thankyou x

  • for these men, the peace at christmas evening was only a feeling, like the peace at home, but they create something, which shows the humanity in a war. Nobody of the soldiers lives today, but what they have done at christmas evening 1914 will live forever. I´m of the opinion, that this memorie must be the fulfillment for a human being in such a horrible war. Nobody will forgetm, what they have done on this christmas. A soldier is a hero, not when he fights best, but when he can peace close.

  • These men are an example to follow by those who are fighting senseless wars. Sorry for my bad English, greetings from argentina. By the way, beatiful song.

  • Dreaming of Home... right, our all -> Europa.... only one...not 27 or more...

  • @JanPieterzoonCoen

i even thin the whole earth is our home...we all live on it and we should be grateful for our lifes..our world belongs to everyone...neither a religion nor a land...just all the animals, plants and mankind

    greetings from saarland, germany

  • Hommage a ces soldats Britaniques, Français et Allemands qui durant cette nuit du 24 décembre 1914, ce sont souvenus qu'ils étaient tous des hommes, tous pantins de gouvernant capricieux et envieux de térritoires....

  • ....

  • This song, remains me in certain way, to the beautiful and calmed Europe that it was before to that first world war, that, even if for some countries was oppresive, it was a peaceful europe.

  • My great grandfather was in the trenches of France, a guard mostly. He fell into the patriotic-hate your enemies guts-propaganda. When they captured a german soldier in a raid, he was stuck watching him. Caused by a minor stalemate, they a lot of time together. Just playing checkers.... They remained friends for the rest of their days....

  • Our grandfathers and great grandfathers fought and died for peace, we children should preserve this heritage.

  • Beautiful song, and shows that even amidst such terrible cruelty and hatred, man can still see other men for what they really are, despite uniform or nation.

And the 3 people who disliked this video? Well, let's just say their humanity is suspect

  • I'm a 21 year old man, but still this movie brings me to my knees. To see how in extreme conditions we men are all still brothers is undescribable. Best movie I have ever seen! It reminds us that how we are all different, we are still the same!

  • @josttie I am 33, my best friend is a history teacher, and we often have movie nights. We watched this together, I loved the cat Nestor/Felix, and this movie brought me to tears. This song does too. To see what these men fought for, died for, and went through is unbelievable. World War I was a "Gentleman's War". The Scottish chaplin at the end, seeing his superior speak of Germans is such ways that terrorists must speak of us, made him give up his post. Disgusted with war and its ways.

  • ☻☻☺☺lovely song☺☺☻☻[iminent rb=anim][/rb]

  • My god grandfather was Serbian and did both wars , died at the second for Liberty ..Don't forget Serbians :) who helped France too .. Tribute to the ones who dies for orders of politicians :(!

  • @Rockyourassed thumbs up :) my compatriotes participated in the files of spain and as a catalan i am proud that, even if spain was neutral, my country fighted together with portuguese and british helping allies

  • I always cry thank you for putting this up my great grandfather would be proud

  • Wow, this song made me homesick while I'm sitting in my home! Joyeux Noel is a very good albeit tragic movie. A conflicting combination of hope (fraternizing on Xmas eve) and despair (the war still went on).

  • This song always makes me cry. So sad and beautiful.

  • I laugh and cry on this movie. Joyeux Noel steal my hearth. So beautiful.

  • Great film

  • all humans are brother

  • @01s26 "All wars are civil wars, because all men are brothers" - Francois Fenelon 1651-1715 French Poet.

    Regards

  • Film très émouvant, dommage qu'ils ne s'entre tue pas plus mais c'est un bon film a voir absolument!!!!!

  • A shocking movie! I was crying so much...

Is this a traditional bagpipe song or it created for the movie?

  • @bhoyG13 All about the bagpipes.

  • Just watched this movie in school. Best movie ever.

  • EXELLENT MOVIE

  • Those old black and white photos of German and English and French soldiers being together, one may consider them as the most precious photographs a camera has ever taken. They will forever stand as a proof that all men are essentially brothers ...

God bless those soldier's souls, they gave a shining example for humanity, and may it never be forgotten.

  • @GR8TM4N British

  • @CrichtonNo5 scotish

  • @GR8TM4N However, I completely agree with your sentiment.

  • @GR8TM4N Examples of soldiers on different sides of a war coming together always show us the true beauty of humanity.Confederate soldiers trading tobacco with Yankee for their coffee. When one is in Hell, all the humanity helps.

  • God, this song makes me cry every time I hear it.

  • Praise the Fatherland.

    Das Doitchland!

  • @CFreviewguy erm, don't you mean deutschland?

  • fighting for grass poles fighting for generals... these men should have lived with a family but as long as there will be human there will be wars....

R.I.P all dead soldiers who will, or are dieing for a lie called nationalism

  • @TheFireA Damn wars damn nations. We should live like one,big nation!

  • @KelDorath nope, nation means border, border means divide, we will never be toguether as long as we add imaginary lines to ours "domains"

  • @KelDorath that will happen when alien invade us

  • @KelDorath Eventually we will, my friend.

  • Whats the name of the last image in video clip? btw, this is defintly one of the best songs, and Joyeux Noel has to be the best movie with the greatest and most portraited message. Well done

  • For some time, starting in the 19th Century, people had became that the machine, the rifle, the factory, and so forth would destroy the human soul. As the drums of war grew, it did indeed begin to look like the very science that had brought us so many gifts would then slaughter millions and take away our human souls.

However, this moment proved that no machine or mechanization could kill our inner humanity. Even in the darkest times of machine war, the embers of compassion could reignite.

  • I cry every time I hear this song ;___; so beautiful and sad, especially sung by a choir.

  • @danielholmesmoo it was very much worth it boy war is hell. freedom is not found it is earned

  • everyone says how the Germans were heartless beast in ww1 but they were fathers brothers farmers just like us there were no bad guys in ww1 Germany was simply going to the aid of Austria there brothers i know because my grandpa heard this from his grandpa German storm trooper major warnkie. i am almost full blooded German.

  • I love this song =D

    It's SOOOOOO BEAUTIFUUUUL !!! XD

  • joyeux noel is such a beautiful movie, it should be broadcasted each christmas, it has a lot more meaning than most movies usually broadcasted at christmas.

  • @LangeE612 Absolutely agree!!!

  • Damn.i am ready for some Britten now...War Requim...

  • Let's just hope nothing like this ever happens again.

  • To my granppa Joe "Pop" Cavelson!

  • "War is a calculated and condoned slaughter of human beings."

    -Harry Patch, the last Tommy

In the end, Mr Patch was right; war is nothing more than this... with the exception of the single positive effect of war.

"Until one has given it all, one has given nothing."

-Georges Guynemer, French WWI pilot KIA

You can say that a veteran is a hero, and he just may be, but in truth, the true heroes of war are those that never came home.

  • Beautiful song...

    Poor soldiers...

  • @Andriej1990

And let us hope that there will never be another war like WWI ever again

  • @frankydman

There will not be next war like WW I. It's impossible.

Eh... these soldiers died in trenches, on mines, of bullets... many Jews-German soldiers and officers, who got wounded during WW I, and be honoured Iron Crosses, were murdered by their Fatherland.

When I heard this song, I have brines in eyes.

  • What some people are forgetting is that Kaiser Wilhelm and Czar Nicohlas were cousins and their grandmother was Queen Victoria. And here in the states we thought Hatfield's and McCoy's was a family feud. This beats by a long shot.

  • except the entire point of WW1 was that a country that never even matered shot arch-duke ferdinand everyone called in there allies and a massive war broke out

  • and the English king was a cousin of them to.

  • @sager122469 Hatfield's and Mcoy's fued was nuts.....wasnt it about land or something...? i forgot lmao

  • Today, Kaiser Wilhelm and George V would just twitter for some minutes and then add themselfes as feinds here on youtube and spearing millions os lives.

  • my history is very rusty- why were they fighting for nothing? what was the political situation

  • the death of the arch duke started the conflict but all the countries hated each other and the sad bit is britian, russia and germany their leaders were all related

  • @helikos1

That is the exact reason they were fighting! It was all because of a family dispute! It seems too simple to contemplate, but it IS as simple as that.

  • well germany and britain always hated each other and were having an arms-race there r tons of reasons for the great war

  • @helikos1

Your History is a little off! When did Germany and Britain hate each other before 1914? France was always Britain's natural enemy! Not Germany. The arms race kicked off because of the petty disputes between the families! This whole thing could have seen Britain turn on France or Russia or Visa versa if the Dice had rolled one way or the other.

  • Germany and Britain were allies for quite along time. Prussia and Britain found against Napolean and in the Seven Years war.

  • In essence, yeah, they were.

You can check it up on the Wiki, but all in all, a Duke in Austria was killed by Serbian rebels, Austria wanted to place troops in Serbia to find the group (The Black Hand) that did so, Serbia refused because that would be a corruption of it's soverignty... Austria Called on Germany to back it up, Serbia called on Russia... It all degrades into a mess of fighting where the origional meaning was long lost.

  • Excellent et original "montage" ! Thank You ...

  • to those who survived: i hope you never have to go through something so painful and horrific ever again in your life

  • there is one living survivor left and he will die very soon :(

  • RIP to those who died fighting for what they though was something but was nothing, god bless your souls.

  • think about it. pretty much everyone you saw in this video died fighting for what?Nothing. imagine being one of the soldiers that made it through, fighting for your life, praying the enemy wont slit your through while your sleeping(the little sleep you got), watching all of your friends/family dieing and then one day you just get to go home to find out you were fighting for nothing, that you were giving your life for nothing, that your buddies and family died for nothing

  • they fought for the world to keep order cus germany was being a 'bully' but really it was huge to them

  • God bless you guys on both sides of this madness happened back then. We're proud of you, all of you

  • God let this never happen again

  • I don't really believe in crying, but I did cry when I watched this. Rest In Peace boys, you did good.

  • canzone e video commoventi. il film Joyeux noel, inoltre, è meraviglioso. la guerra non riesce a distruggere la tenerezza e l'immortalità dell'arte.

  • nice vid. The photos change pretty fast though...

  • Sehr schönes Video + Musik.

  • epic song

  • 17.3% of male population!

    Unbelievable!!!

    Hope it never happen again.

Have you seen the movie call Joyeux Noel ( Merry christmas)?

  • God Rest their Souls

  • So Nice..They make it sound as if ww1 was so peaceful when it wasn't, never the less Respect for all those who died..great song

  • its just whats going on inside a soldiers head who just wants to go home

  • amen

  • The men who couldn't handle the war, they end up crazy or shell-shock, many men committed suicide during the war and after the war.

    peace to everyone

  • Thats a great song, I love to sing it

God rest the souls of the fallen of World War One ( ''The war to end all war's '' )

  • RIP Harry Patch . 1898-2009

  • I'd love to say that we need never pass this way again, but I know we have and we will again and again.

May their God go with them

  • The war that never ended...

but they will come, they will rise again for a last battle...

    and now they will win...

  • Magnificent! A fitting tribute indeed. There were no good or bad sides here, no right or wrong - only a monumental massacre which all sides managed to blunder into.

  • So true!

  • who is this song?? please i love it

  • as you can see in this movie "marry christmas" the evil one where not the germans, or france or brithis. the evil one where head of the stats, who sent them to hell...

one of the saddest movie i've ever seen...

  • @12345Fok12345 No.... It is a happy movie. It shows how even in the darkest moments of history, there are lanterns of hope and good in an otherwise bleak field. The soldiers had discovered the humanity on the other side. And while the nation state could punish them, it could NEVER crush what they had learned on that night.

  • @12345Fok12345 Nailed on the head mate! I'd really like to see assholes like Bush, Putin, Sarcozy, Berlusconi and all their ilk herded up like cattle and left to rot in trenches !

They all use fancy words like sacrifice, but when it comes to it, its WE who sacrifice ourselves for them !

  • @12345Fok12345 but one of the best

  • @12345Fok12345 the scotts were also there if im not mistaken.

  • @12345Fok12345 Joyeux Noel is one of the greatest movies ever made if not THE best one.

  • beautiful film it's amazing....still

  • This is so beautiful! When I first saw Joyeux Noel in the cinema I was really impressed and I've loved this movie ever since. Did the song already exist or was it written for the movie?

  • It really did exist and was sung by the British troops during the truce.

  • Thank you for answering. It is very beautiful!

  • No prob. The first time I heard it,I cried. But I like the version sung in by the Scotish troops during the movie.

  • @Eniphesoj90

It was written it was not copied from the past.

  • @Eniphesoj90 i believe the song existed as a scottish christmas carol, and the tune was used with new lyrics. We play this song on Rememberance day in canada frequently. Very beautiful

  • @Eniphesoj90 I'm sure someone answered you by now.But it did exist during the war.It was one of the songs sang that Christmas Eve.It did help lead to the truce.

  • @Eniphesoj90 It is a real Scotch song that also exists in German and French versions, reputedly because the Scotish troops taught it to the Germans and French during the Christmas ceasefire.

  • Remind me why the bloody hell everyone was at war again? And while you're at it, tell me what the bloody hell we gained from all those lives lost?

  • not a dan thing except pain and hardship may we never relive such a horror ever again

  • Oh my God...when I heard the German soldiers hum this at the end of Joyeux Noel, I couldn't help but cry silently. What an incredibly moving song.

  • Same here. Hands down the most moving movie I have ever seen. It doesn't matter how many times a watch it. It's the most moving story one can tell...

I suppose that's why they say WWI was "the last gasp of civilization"...days of this kind of humanity are long gone...and sadly, are never coming back

  • fuck off ricky

  • who the fuck is Ricky

  • Ha! Good question!
