What an absolutely beautiful canine! It looks like you two have lots of fun!
My husband and I are strongly considering adopting one of these dogs. Any advice? We've only read things on the breed, but we would love to hear from someone who has personal experience with their own Carolina Dog. If you would please comment on my page with any tips, I would so so appreciate it. Thank you!
Rescued what our vet thinks is a 13 mo A D. She's been spayed, shots, all tests and whatever our vet recomended. She's now in really good shape. Lizzie is very smart and sweet. She and my Boston drive me crazy-but lots of fun. Not agressive and loves to be loved! She needs a good family and I will be screening interested parties soon. Must be willing to allow & pass background check-need to make sure she goes to the right family. Plan to post on an American dingo rescue site.
Awesome video and shots. Great music to capture the spirit of the Dingo. What a beautiful girl. Mine is third generation so she has a bit of mix in her but her stance and spirit are pure Dingo. I knew her granny and mama. Her granny was literally a junkyard dog. Now her grand baby has moved to the suburbs. I love their determined spirit. I feel it gives us strength as well.
@laxton19 Nope. She just has short hair. But she does shed like crazy. I don't know how she still has any fur left on her body when it's all over our car seats and fills our vacuums bags.
What an absolutley beautiful girl...like the song says. I picked the same song for my video of our "maybe" Carolina dog. She is a rescue dog from the South and blind ..ergo the "Suddenly I See" song. She is a darling girl, but definitely not the beauty that Siennna is. Our video can be found if you search "Annie's New Life". Best to you, EC
Do I have Sienna's sister??? Curious if she came from Georgia in the past two years? I was thrilled to see Sienna'a video, your music was perfect and brings out the best in her. I had trouble getting her to eat regular food, her favorite earthworms were not available year round... she loves Blue Diamond dog food, eats much less than they recommend so it is economical.
I just got an american dingo, he is now 8 months old but his ears arent completely pointy yet and his coat is still a few shads darker of blond than Sienna. Roughly what age will his ears point up and his coat get blonder???
As for her color, her original owners said because both her parents were orangish, they thought she was going to be a little more orange, hence her name.
hehe, i have a dingo. I live in austrlalia and there was an abandoned puppy under my house when I was like 10. I brought him up and he's really domesticated. Except he bites people who come near me @.@ i have a video on my channel of him from when he last got off his chain. he was so tuckered out his ears stayed down lmao
CD/AD's are AWESOME dogs! Ours, Cooter, is almost 6 mo old and all the above traits (scavenging, staying close to us, whining when we go away) apply to him too, and he is very good in the house too- he has so many toys he doesnt chew our stuff and he respects boundaries like the garbage, tables & plants! Cooter is from Banbury Cross Farm also! Maybe they're even related somehow! How Cool! Cooter is alot darker red now! I'm trying to get a new video of him up soon. Sienna is a gorgeous gal!
Is Cooter a slave to his nose, too? Sienna walks almost everywhere with her nose to the ground, sniffing like crazy. Sometimes she'll get a scent and off she goes. Half the time, she's not even watching where she's going.
According to her UKC papers, her father was "Willy Winkie" and her mother was "Meg." It's cool that I can look at her papers and then go to Banbury Cross's website and see some the dogs in her lineage on there.
When I don't make him pay attention to me he has his nose to the ground or he is scanning the horizon for any movement! In the yard he hunts bugs & tries to catch birds! His father is "Gunner" and mother is "Foxy". I haven't got his papers from Jane yet, I need to contact her about that, he's 6 months old! I'm putting a current video up of Cooter right now so let me know what you think of him now! Our CD/AD s are so special I can't imagine ever owning another breed ever again!
That's so cool! How old is Sienna? I originally wanted the cream color that she is but it worked out that I got red! But they are both beautiful!!!!I was really concerned the CD/AD's might be very shy around people because I want to get him certified with HABIT to visit hospitals, nursing homes etc, but he is very outgoing & friendly! He does bark & "tell" me if someone or thing comes near his yard but he loves going places & meeting new people & kids!
Sienna is very shy around people she doesn't know but it's because she wasn't socialized as a pup. She was meant as a bredder only. In fact when we went to "meet" her, the original owners said she wasn't allowed in the house. It was obvious when we got her home and we gave her a bath that she spent all her time outside because she turned the water black.
One thing I've read about them is that you HAVE to socialize them at a very young age or they will be shy forever. If I had one complaint about her, its her timidity. It seems to override everything else sometimes. She literally gets scared stupid if people are around. She has gotten much better but it still gets a little trying at times. We had to get her a harness because she would literally choke herself to get away from other people or loud noises.
that's so true!We try to take Cooter lots of places & expose him to lots of people & different animals. He even goes to every one of my sons football practices! Jane ddn't put collars or leashes on the puppies before the new owners got them,so Cooter freaked out at first when he would feel ANY pressure from a leash! He would act like a wild animal in a trap and thrash around and then lay down & literally let me drag him before he would walk on a leash! We had to go very slow with that!
That's sad that they never paid her much attention, but you have her now and I can tell she's a member of your "pack", which is what these dogs want, to be part of a pack!
Another thing is how easily she submits to other animals. I knew that AD/CDs will usually submit to other dogs but Sienna submits to puppies and cats too. So if anyone out there is thinking about getting an AD/CD you have to make sure to socialize them right away.
As for her color, the original owners wanted her to be more orangish. They even named her Sienna because that was the color they thought she would be.
I love this video! We just rescued a CD pup from Mississippi. She's 5 months old...I can't wait till I can have her off-leash in the woods! How long was it before you could trust Sienna not to run away?
MY dingo i trained him for 14 months, and i had tazer suctions stuck on him, and if he ran off too far, it would give him 20 watts in his feet, so they would shock him slightly, and he learned not to run off too far in the woods, so never trust your dingo in the woods, unless you have a way to get her back.
I take our her into the woods all the time and she never wanders too far. In fact, if she gets too far ahead, she looks back to see if WE'RE still there. If she thinks she's too far away she'll wait until we get closer. But usually she's right there with us.
I guess we are just going to have to wait for her to learn to always come when called. She is such a sweetie, but she has a real independent streak in her. She only comes to us when she is in the mood!I am afraid if she sees a deer or another dog she will take off and never look back! Also, she eats everything...like a scavenger! (rocks, bugs, twigs....I even caught her chewing on a disposable razor!!)Is this typical of the breed?...or is it normal "puppy behavior"?
As far as I know, they're scavengers as well as great hunters. Sienna won't stay out of the garbage unless we block it off. And she'll eat ANYTHING she finds on the ground but has to be very hungry before she'll eat her dog food.
In the woods, she will wander off into the brush but one quick whistle and she's right back to us. They're social animals and don't like it when a member of their "pack" is gone. If any of us leaves for the house, she'll will walk around whining until that person comes home. Since I didn't raise her, I can't tell you how or even if she was trained to stay close but when we first got her, I used to have treats in my pocket and would whistle. If she came back right away, she got a treat.
It's interesting how similar our dogs seem! I will definitely try the treats and whistling! We have only had her a month and she is still a puppy. When you say they are great hunters, you should see how she "stalks" my other dog. It's hilarious. She'll crouch down low, barely move....head low....and then lunge at him like a wild animal! Luckily it's all in fun and they are great pals. Kinda creepy though at times! I'll try to video it some time and post it.
Gave my last Doberman away 4 days ago. Then I had a Dingo show up on my porch. Strange.

Ok, do you shave her or is that her natural coat? My Carolina Dog has a longer coat and sheds like CRAZY!
