I now have both a 900 (Celeron) and 900A (Atom), the 900A has about twice the battery life, more efficient. Slightly better video performance and runs a bit cooler. The 900A is pretty much a 901 in sheeps (900) clothing. And I love that.
I think the 901 looks taller on top just because of the bigger 6-cells battery. That said, I think the case is the same as the 900. So still very small.
I'll get a 900A (900 with Atom CPU). They are available now in Germany and I've found a supplier that can ship one to me. I think they should have made 900 dimensions a non-negotiable constraint for upcoming designs.
in my humble opinion, IBM should make an Atom competitor that completely demolishes Intel's chip. we all know they could, they have hundreds of billions in the bank.
even after seeing that video I will still choose 900 over the 901 for three simple reasons
-atom processors are new. And more powerful could mean far more hot than the Celeron
-Celeron is an old processor that has been improved a thousand times, and works at its best. Atom has only just seen the light of day, and needs a lot of work before being used in laptops
-from personal experience, I have seen and compared the difference between Pentium Dual Core and Celeron. for some reason celeron won
This comparison made me pretty much stop believing in any worthy improvements to CPUs. Usually its simply cheaper to make than the old alternative, which is the reason new CPUs are introduced. Even though Intel "Doubled the core", everything lagged far more on the Dual core than on the Celeron. All im saying is its better to wait till the processor has had major improvements over it, at this moment Im goin with the Linux 20GB 900 version, due to bad experiences with Windows
i noticed the 901 is plugged in and charging while the 900 is not. could this affect the performance due to some speed stepping technology? the 900's clock may have been reduced thanks to a power save mode and suffered accordingly
Would it be possible to evaluate the 901 with a stresslinux boot? I think a video that shows the real performance of the machine would be most welcome in the linux world. Instead of running a program on a seven year old socalled os XP. Debian rules !
i already replied to it in the Eeeuser comments. Believe me i am not willing to mislead people cause i would lose quite some credibility with it. All i can say is, that i used a stock Win XP Pro installation without the default drivers. I installed the recent drivers from the ASUS page. Of course i already referred to Bens' video and i am gonna do a clean installation of it again. I have no problem with revealing a new video which is clearing that up. thx mate
no problem mate. i will keep you guys updated on this. believe me i was kinda surprised, too cause there shouldn't be any huge differences between these 2 chipsets
strange about the slow downs, has to be a driver issue because they are both using same video cards but maybe the 1.6ghz atom processor is kicking that much ass
sorry, i want to see a more detailed benchmark. will you export the fully results from PCMark 05 in Excel file or PCR? i think it can be interesting for comparing with others personal computers. thx
its a bad compare :( look at : watch?v=xUrdzFxTZ8o&feature=related

I just purchased an EEE PC 901 (Windows XP). It is absolutely amazing. This review is really well done.

this one is bigger, the pc900 is better than this one like a design....

well battery doesn't matter because the 900 has a smaller battery and uses less power the 901 has a bigger battery and uses more power so yeah....

Can you upgrade the hard drive in the 901?

Can you run the 901 while it is plugged into the wall? (And still recharge the battery at the same time?)

the Via Nano (or Isaiah) is MUCH better than Intel's atom, every comparison on the internet i've seen agrees.
tipoomaster 3 years ago
it depends on what you want... it has more calc power but needs much more energy
yashirobi123 3 years ago
they have 4-6 watt parts coming out soon.
tipoomaster 3 years ago
i bet they wont be the only one ;)
but its nice to see that there are other companies out there beside Intel who sell processors

900 is just as smooth if not smoother. Your eeepc 900 drivers are out of date, which is why it is choppy.

Yeah and I'm sure the extra 700mhz processor power doesn't help.

It doesn't. The atom is significantly slower per clock than the celeron. This is fact. You are speaking from a position of ignorance.

Cool. I hope we don't get that idiot MacOSRules coming over to add his dumb thoughts. The 901 is looking sweet.

I don't know how you ruined the 900 or if you just intended to mislead people.
The 900 runs it just fine:

The fairest comparison would be the exact same OS, both with the newest official drivers available.
Also, 3Dmark03 would be interesting.
Sorry for jumping at you, we'll probably be debunking this the next year or so.

i am going to do a new review comparison between the Eee PC 8g, the Eee PC 900 and 901 soon.

Doesn't the 901 use the GMA 950 instead of 900's GMA 900? I suppose the difference is so minimal that it shouldn't be that much of a difference.
Perhaps other things are in play.. not just drivers?

Any difference with the new processor with the perceived temperature?
1650million 3 years ago
it stays pretty cool and it has a fan, which you can barely hear.
minipcpro 3 years ago
Mmmm. The guys at notebookreview said that it was "as hot" as the EEE 900, though.
Anyway, thanks for your feedback, thanks.
