@drippinblood28 for reference a 3.5 g35 can do 0-60 in the 5 second range and so can a 2008 m35 with the 3.5. many midsized sedans are as fast as this car with 3.5 liters or faster... im saying its not impressive. average at best...
@mr010tommy010 The CTS will beat it around the track for sure because its a got much better suspension, but definitely not in a straightline. The 300c put out 390 pound of torque at just 4000rpm.
@Sampson712 The badge on the back 2008-09s will say on the back 3.6 Direct Injection and 2010+ just says 3.6 for the DI engine (base from 2010 up is a 3.0)
@wongmylesa I believe you r right. I have the 09 base model tl thats 280 hp and is front wheel drive. I have test drove my friends 3.6 D.I. 08 cts and honesty I was a little bummed, even when I was on the freeway doing pulls testing the power at high rpm's. I feel like the tl may even be fast from a pull at most speeds, plus the tl has paddles and is a lot easier to move through traffic since u only need one hand to drive and to down shift when its not in sport mode. But the cts is 1 sexy car.
@wongmylesa Yea real shame about the AWD. First year it came out the AWD D.I. only had 263 hp... idk y they did that. They need to make the cts a lil lighter at least 36K-37K pounds to be as fast as it shud. I was trying to look n c if there is anything to do to cut the weight down. Only thing i found so far worth getting was a cold air intake to help her move better but doesn't seem like much making it move faster. N I guess theres no headers even that fit, unless u go with D3 and are 4 g's :x
@CubeLuda your Diesel will also return crazy MPG when your not touching the gas or coasting. My old 328i's analog and digital MPG gauge will peg 99MPG when im not touching the gas or slowing down. :) Happy motoring!
Very nice sounding engine. One thing I like about GM's v6 engines and specifically the DI 3.6L engine is the almost v8 like growl it makes when you put your foot into it. That was pretty fast for a sport luxury sedan that weighs as much as the CTS does. Love that engine note!
@maxou5757 I'm assuming because CTS is likely a bigger and heavier car than the A4. The Cadillacs don't line up one-to-one to the Euro-brand line ups. They're usually slightly larger than their competing vehicle to offer "more" for a similarly vehicle competitively and lower priced.
(...) the available new 3.6-liter direct injection (DI) V6 puts out 304 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque. In performance testing, this engine produced a 0-60-mph time of 6.5 seconds.
At the test track, our A4 leapt to 60 mph in just 6.5 seconds, an impressive showing indeed for a 211-hp sedan weighing nearly 3,800 pounds. (the CTS weight almost 4000pounds)
A complete failure from Cadillac. The CTS approximatly 200pounds heavier than the A4 CANT beat the 100hp less Audi. :/
trophies yea ... trophies that are from the United States ? lol Motortrend = american Cadillac = american => CTS car of the year by Motortrend in the Us ! LOL.
Its not a bad car but certainly not the best in its class
@maxou5757 i would much rather drive a CTS then some Audi...a friend of mine has an A4, and it's nothing but problems. timing belt went out a lot earlier then expected, 4000 dollars in repairs
Audi is actually extremely notorious for bad electronics. Almost anything electrical on the car is at risk. Im not an Audi hater, I like the styling on them but any electric tech will tell you the same thing.
Those were a bit problematic. The thing is, If you buy a german car... Expect your pocket to run low a bit in the long run! lmfao however VW/Audi Are very good sturdy cars :D
Actually check out Consumer Reports comparison between a bunch of luxury midsize cars...the CTS topped all of them included your precious A6. Now the fact that Consumer Reports is biased against American manufacturers makes the comparison even more interesting. So yes it is the best car in its class.
Okidoke. You knew this wasn't the CTS-V with the supercharged 6.2, thats the most important part. You wouldn't believe how many people don't know that. -.-
You were probably replying to someone else that thought it was the V8, now that I think about it. Silly me. :D
I think we're splitting hairs. The CTS DI is a wonderful ride. Not fair to compare it with the BMW 3-series, as the CTS offers a considerably roomier back seat.
Now if GM can get back on track and start offering the clean diesel V6 with 400+ foot pounds of torque ...
meh...... far from slow, but also far from impressive. This is much slower than virtually all of its competitors. cadillac just made this car too damn heavy
lol yeah, it's the exact opposite case with the CTS-V. the CTS-V actually out-performs its competition. Too bad that isnt the fact with the CTS base and CTS DI
Was i comparing this to my cars?? NO! i was comparing the CTS's performance to its entry-level competitors (BMW 335i, Infiniti G37, Audi A4,Acura TL, Lexus IS350) just to name a few. The CTS is simply outperformed in its class. Im not bashing the CTS, it's still a remarkable car. it's only flaw is hefty weight, that's all.
And for the record, my 5 beats this car to 60 and would probably out pace the CTS for the duration of the quarter mile. (my 530i is a standard shift keep in mind).
For the record your 5 doesn't. I don't know where you're finding this bullshit. Secondly the CTS easily keeps pace with the TL, A4, C class so I don't know where you get this crap from. What the fuck happened to the 328, c300 or is250? You're silly.
yeah it does as a matter of fact. Ive personally recorded 0-60 times as quick as 6.15 sec in my 530, and im not even a pro driver. C/D ran a test on a 530i with the older 225hp 3.0I6 and got 6.7 0-60. My car has 255 hp, 6-speed man., and just over 28,000 break-in miles. im sure if i handed the keys to the professional road test editors at C/D or Road and track they'd achieve a sub 6 sec 0-60 time for my car. As far as 1/4 mile goes, im not sure if my 530 will hold off a 304 hp CTS for that long
my point is that you were totally wrong when you said the CTS would "wipe the floor" with my 530i. It doesnt at all. I thought i made my point pretty obvious :S........
????? is your Domestic car bias so strong that you cant even tell reality from personal opinion? How can you compare a bloated semi-sport sedan CTS to the driving dynamics of a BMW 5-series??? Sorry that the fact is a little harsh for you to face, but the 530i simply out-performs the CTS in almost every catagory. Handling, ride quality, comfort, fuel efficiency, and driving dynamics. And the 530i is an 07! Compare an 09 535i to an 09 CTS? hah! i wonder who is wiping the floor with who in that!
Since you love the 530i so much let's do some reminiscing: R&T, June '04. Luckily I happened to have this issue sitting on my desk. You precious 530i achieved a measly 7.2 seconds 0-60, and placed 6th (second last, the only car it managed to beat was a stupid Volvo s80). Guess what got first. 04 CTS, quickest 0-60 and quarter mile times. The CTS killed the 530 there, and it kills it again, but you can't seem to comprehend that fact. The 535i costs substantially more than a CTS as well.
Also I pulled up the Bimmer website, and had a look at their 09 535i. Here's the data:
2009 535i xDrive Sedan
300 hp
All-wheel Drive
5.8 s 0-100
$ 68,900
Take a look at that starting price. That's pathetic. The CTS offers similar performance at a much lower price point, which is a simple fact you can't argue. Adding to the shame is the fact that a base 528i costs $56,200 and goes 0-100 in 6.9 doesn't really help you out either.
the USA starting price for a 535xi is 53,400 which is a relative bargain compared to most fot he imported competition from Lexus, Infiniti, Mercedes, Audi, and jaguar. And yeah we are done, and have been done. we are both just wasting our time with theis little tirade cuz obviously you have a tendancy towards American cars, and i prefer German cars. So long halo god and have a nice life
sorry i keep dragging on this discussion lol, but the it's funny you bring up the C300&328i base models, cuz the direct injection CTS can barely keep up with them either! Look up a comparo on Car&driver with the CTS DI. They ran against a G35 sedan, C300, and 328i. Guess what, the CTS was slower than the 328 and just barely quicker than the benzo. The G35 was a full second ahead of the CTS. The CTS is just as good (if not better) than its import competition in everything EXCEPT ACCELERATION.
"barely quicker than the benzo". Doesn't matter. The Benz is a smaller, lighter car and was still slower than the CTS. The CTS achieved the same 0-60 time as the 328, which is also a much smaller, lighter car. I don't understand what exactly you're trying to accomplish, but the tests by reputable reviewers have proved that the CTS is competitive with the bulk of its competition and where it's not (G35, 335) it beats them out in other areas.
What im trying to accomplish is to show you that the CTS needs to shed some weight cuz it's too heavy to keep up with the competition in terms of speed, handling, or fuel efficiency.
And what were you trying to accomplish when you dragged my cars into this dispute?? Just out of curiosity, what do you drive?
Well considering it's a CTS vid I'm commenting on/ defending, maybe you can guess. A rabid mole could put 2 and 2 together quicker than you.
I'm trying to to accomplish exactly the opposite of what you are. I guess facts/logic are what you try and dispute; you say a c300 is quicker than a base CTS, and I show you numbers that disprove your argument entirely. CTS is by no means fastest in class, but it's far from the slowest as well. It keeps up with the competition just fine.
The G35 and 335 and IS350 are faster, but look at all the other competitors which the CTS equals or bests in acceleration: BMW 323/328, Audi A4, Acura TL, IS250, C300. You can't deny that. Let's ask you a question: What do you think about the C300, seeing as its one of the slowest sport sedans in the class? I love how you rip on the CTS yet you have nothing to say about the Benz that was the slowest in the Car and Driver comparo.
yeah but everything you mentioned are BASE models. the CTS base does not keep up with the those mentioned. The DI does, but the CST base doesnt. And the C300 is not one of the slowest in it's class. The Lexus IS250 and Acura TSX are far slower. the Saab 9-3 Arc , Volvo S40 T5, and CTS base are also slower than the C300.
Are you kidding? Since you love Car and Driver so much, look it up. The base CTS with the 6 spd. auto got 0-60 in 6.4 and 1/4 in 14.9 which is more than adequate for keeping up with the models I mentioned.

As far as 1/4 mile goes, im not sure if my 530 will hold off a 304 hp CTS for that long
4MATICbenz 2 years ago
Okay so what is your point? The CTS has achieved sub 6 second 0-60 runs.
th3ha1og0d 2 years ago
my point is that you were totally wrong when you said the CTS would "wipe the floor" with my 530i. It doesnt at all. I thought i made my point pretty obvious :S........
4MATICbenz 2 years ago
You are mistaken. The CTS would wipe the floor with your 530i.

????? is your Domestic car bias so strong that you cant even tell reality from personal opinion? How can you compare a bloated semi-sport sedan CTS to the driving dynamics of a BMW 5-series??? Sorry that the fact is a little harsh for you to face, but the 530i simply out-performs the CTS in almost every catagory. Handling, ride quality, comfort, fuel efficiency, and driving dynamics. And the 530i is an 07! Compare an 09 535i to an 09 CTS? hah! i wonder who is wiping the floor with who in that!
4MATICbenz 2 years ago
Since you love the 530i so much let's do some reminiscing: R&T, June '04. Luckily I happened to have this issue sitting on my desk. You precious 530i achieved a measly 7.2 seconds 0-60, and placed 6th (second last, the only car it managed to beat was a stupid Volvo s80). Guess what got first. 04 CTS, quickest 0-60 and quarter mile times. The CTS killed the 530 there, and it kills it again, but you can't seem to comprehend that fact. The 535i costs substantially more than a CTS as well.
th3ha1og0d 2 years ago
yeah, but that 225 hp version! And BMW 5-series always looses points for value and hp. The newer 5-series are much improved in both catagories
4MATICbenz 2 years ago
Yeah it was the 225 hp version and even still 7.2 seconds and mid 15's quarter mile is pretty quick.
th3ha1og0d 2 years ago
Also I pulled up the Bimmer website, and had a look at their 09 535i. Here's the data:
2009 535i xDrive Sedan
300 hp
All-wheel Drive
5.8 s 0-100
$ 68,900
Take a look at that starting price. That's pathetic. The CTS offers similar performance at a much lower price point, which is a simple fact you can't argue. Adding to the shame is the fact that a base 528i costs $56,200 and goes 0-100 in 6.9 doesn't really help you out either.
'09 CTS starting price (CDN $): $40,485
I think we're done.
th3ha1og0d 2 years ago
the USA starting price for a 535xi is 53,400 which is a relative bargain compared to most fot he imported competition from Lexus, Infiniti, Mercedes, Audi, and jaguar. And yeah we are done, and have been done. we are both just wasting our time with theis little tirade cuz obviously you have a tendancy towards American cars, and i prefer German cars. So long halo god and have a nice life
4MATICbenz 2 years ago
Yeah you're right. I do have a tendency towards American, but I'm also a fan of the three big German makes.

sorry i keep dragging on this discussion lol, but the it's funny you bring up the C300&328i base models, cuz the direct injection CTS can barely keep up with them either!
4MATICbenz 2 years ago
"barely quicker than the benzo". Doesn't matter. The Benz is a smaller, lighter car and was still slower than the CTS. The CTS achieved the same 0-60 time as the 328, which is also a much smaller, lighter car. I don't understand what exactly you're trying to accomplish, but the tests by reputable reviewers have proved that the CTS is competitive with the bulk of its competition and where it's not (G35, 335) it beats them out in other areas.
th3ha1og0d 2 years ago
What im trying to accomplish is to show you that the CTS needs to shed some weight cuz it's too heavy to keep up with the competition in terms of speed, handling, or fuel efficiency.
And what were you trying to accomplish when you dragged my cars into this dispute?? Just out of curiosity, what do you drive?
4MATICbenz 2 years ago
Well considering it's a CTS vid I'm commenting on/ defending, maybe you can guess. A rabid mole could put 2 and 2 together quicker than you.
I'm trying to to accomplish exactly the opposite of what you are. I guess facts/logic are what you try and dispute; you say a c300 is quicker than a base CTS, and I show you numbers that disprove your argument entirely. CTS is by no means fastest in class, but it's far from the slowest as well. It keeps up with the competition just fine.
th3ha1og0d 2 years ago
The G35 and 335 and IS350 are faster, but look at all the other competitors which the CTS equals or bests in acceleration: BMW 323/328, Audi A4, Acura TL, IS250, C300. You can't deny that. Let's ask you a question: What do you think about the C300, seeing as its one of the slowest sport sedans in the class? I love how you rip on the CTS yet you have nothing to say about the Benz that was the slowest in the Car and Driver comparo.
th3ha1og0d 2 years ago
yeah but everything you mentioned are BASE models. the CTS base does not keep up with the those mentioned. The DI does, but the CST base doesnt. And the C300 is not one of the slowest in it's class. The Lexus IS250 and Acura TSX are far slower. the Saab 9-3 Arc , Volvo S40 T5, and CTS base are also slower than the C300.
4MATICbenz 2 years ago
Are you kidding? Since you love Car and Driver so much, look it up. The base CTS with the 6 spd. auto got 0-60 in 6.4 and 1/4 in 14.9 which is more than adequate for keeping up with the models I mentioned.
th3ha1og0d 2 years ago
Expected it to be faster

Not much quicker than my Accord with 60 fewer HP.

Look who it is. God forbid the time for this car be measured by you at 6.4 right? Because NOTHING is faster than your Sienna right?
I can't believe you.
