  • Hang Black sheep Esmeralda and have an orgasm Phoebus !!

  • When I first saw the Hunchback of Notre Dame, (the Disney version) I liked Phoebus. When I started watching the musical, I couldn't understand why there were so many Phoebus-hating comments.

I finished the musical and read the book. I understand now.

  • That was sick of him ):< Yeah go ahead and run with your ugly-ass fleur-de-fish! You'll die soon anyway...bastard

  • That was sick of him ):<

  • What a nice cage of... bike racks... XD

  • I hate him

  • I hate IT

Frollo aime esmeralda,... Phoebus est horrible...

  • @angelofdarknesse0706 Oui, ce que tu écris est vrai.

  • 3:35 Where did Gringoire come from?!?!?!?!???

  • Fiori looks so badass when he kicks the railing at 0:16.

I mean, Phoebus is terrible, but you cannot deny that Fiori is hot - both visually and vocally.

  • Ahh Gringoire dnt just stand there! Save Esmeralda! There's no goat here so you wont have t choose! C'mon, dude! Dnt kill Esmeralda you bastards!

Ugh Phoebus is a fag! He only wanted Esmeralda's body and Fleur de Lys' money...ugh

  • @hohorek I know right?!

But I think he also wants Fleur de Lys's body... he's a womanizing drunkard after all. >_>

And I thought Gringoire's weird attraction to the goat was incredibly weird. xD I think he actually would have chosen her over Esmeralda..

  • @agentlolipop001

    WHAT attraction to the goat???

i know about the goat but what "attraction"????

(Sorry, i didnt read the novel cuz i cant read french)

  • @RacbecSkywalker Well, pretty much every time the story is told from his point of view and he sees Esmeralda and the goat, he thinks something along the lines of ''The girl is not bad, but that goat is really pretty'' xD

  • @RacbecSkywalker They have an english unabridged version. I'm sure you could find it at a local library or bookstore either in person or via online. I'm not the most fluent at french myself, so I read the English adaptation and it's wonderful! (Gringoire does seem to bond more with Djali than with Esmeralda, I will admit....But he's still my favorite character along with Clopin)

  • Ahh Gringoire dnt just stand there! Save Esmeralda! There's n goat here so you wont have t choose! C'mon, dude! Dnt kill Esmeralda you bastards!

Ugh Phoebus is a fag! He only wanted Esmeralda's body and Fleur de Lys' money...ugh

  • Aye!

Esmeralda´s last moments on Earth: knowledge that man she loved with her whole heart sent her to death. Somebody kill Hoebus (and yes, it was conscious misspelling! p)

  • Anybody else want to rip Pheobus's lungs out through his ears say "Aye".

    Aye.

  • @venussaur Aye.

    Poor Esmeralda.

  • wait... I thought it was Quasimodo who left her in a bat with Frollo, since he trusted him and didn't know about the way he felt about Esmeralda...

  • No, it was Pierre who left him in a boat with her.

(For your next reply, make sure you click the "reply" button so I knew that you are replying to me).

  • it was Gringore who left her in a boat..

(I think) this is the quote that shows it from the novel (I think)

"He had two chocies her (Esmeralda) or the goat he chose the goat".

(I need to read the novel again) but I remember he choses her pet goat over her and leaves her with Frollo

  • But he didn't knew that Frollo is going to murder her

  • well Frollo didn't 'murder' her...He threatened her with death (after Gringore left) and then he threw her to the 'nun' in the the place de greve and went to get the soldiers so in an elbratoue way he killed her but not directly

  • @Peadarisback Hmm... I don't remember that part =o But as I recall both Esmeralda and the goat had escaped from the cathedral, and the goat just fled maybe (?) but I don't recall Gringoire being there at the same time as Frollo, especially not on a boat o.o Lolz I'mma read it again too just to be sure ^^'

  • @agentlolipop001 Read the book. It is there. Have a look.

  • @longman718 =o Well, I only have the abridged version here... maybe that's why I can't find it?

    Dunno. ^^'

  • @agentlolipop001 Hmm, what is the abridged version?

  • Maybe it's because he hasn't developed any feeling for her... and he doesn't want to be hang, as well... When Esmeralda saved him, she was in no danger...

  • Well...In the novel he acts even more scared. He takes her on a boat (with Frollo), leaves he boat, and instead of taking her, he took the goat only.

    Leaving her with Frollo.

  • Aww... poor Gringoire, he's there to watch hos his wife (or still fiancee) is about to be executed :D

  • The interesting thing is that he is just STANDING THERE. Why not own her own?

Wow, is he really THAT SCARED XD She did save his life lol.

  • what could he do to stop them???? nothing!!!!

  • Who them?! Can you please be accurate?!

  • i mean frollo, phoebus and executioners!!

  • Yes but she saved his life!!!!!!!!

  • Ahhh mercii =)

  • By giving away her position, I mean that Esmeralda called out to him (in her naive love for him) and the guards heard her and pulled her away from her mother. And as they dragged Esmeralda away, the mother tried to get them to release her, but one of the guards pushed her backwards and she hit her head on the ground and it killed her. So in fact, it was both Frollo (who had the guards after her) and Esmeralda herself that were the cause for her own death.

  • This play holds a resemblance with the stroy of Henry VIII who married Ane Boleyn and later on killed her on charges of bewitching him...I think Phoebus did just that with Esmeralda...

  • That could be the reason Victor Hugo wrote this novel. Ok, not the main reason, but one of them.

  • WAIT!!! its Phoebus' fault that she dies!?!?!?!

  • yes it is Phoebus fault! i hate him...he is just a loser

  • NO!!!!!! hes my favorite. dang

  • In the novel, no. Esmeralda had just reunited with her birth mother (Gudule) and found out what her real name was. But it was actually Frollo, who after trying to get Esmeralda to go with him again, he told the guards to go and find her. Gudule tried to protect Esmeralda and at first, they almost get away with it (because she had hidden her behind her) - but when Esmeralda heard Phoebus' voice amoung the guards - she gave away her position. And that action killed her and her mother.

  • It is interesting that everybody else leaves the sqaure, and nobody notices dead Clopin laying on the ground. WOW, its a start.

  • fact: this song "Déportes" is more of a recisative then a song until the end where Phoebus and the guards (or is it an offstage chorus???) start to repeat the "déportes" and exiled bit.... YES THAT COMMENT WAS COMPLETELY RANDOM AND TRIVAL but I thought I'd just point it out not that anyone needed to actually know that but it is a recsitaive not a song oh sorry I don't mean it turns into a song in the end I mean around 0:20 it becomes a song before that it's a recivsative

  • Hmm, what do you mean by "recisative"?

  • recisative is when people kind of speak with music playing like Phoebus at the start of this scene when he's condeming Esméralda to death and outlawing the Gypsies he does that in a recisative then it turns into a song after that

  • Ow I HATE Phoebus :P I hate the character ;) The actor is super!!

  • I agree with you, and I'll go one step further: Phoebus is a freakin manwhore. I had many more *colorful* words earlier when I first saw this clip, but I think the word sums it up for me, lol! The actor has an awsome range of vocals though ;) This is an awsome musical!

  • @megameg805 i unterstand you^^

  • Fleur-de-lys is ugly... o__o, Phoebus is prolly gay :D

  • How can you say that? She's so pretty. It's just the lighting in this scene that doesn't show her at her best.

  • Wow, both of you guys are from Canada :D

  • So are guys playing Gringoire, Frollo, Quasimodo, and also Luc Plamondon, the guy who wrote the lyrics for this musical. The musical was a hit in my hometown of Montreal, so given all this, is it really so surprising?

We speak French in Canada, too...

  • No, I am just saying taht they are both from canada silly! Grow up!

  • I agree, she is preety :D

  • I thought that Phoebeus died in song 26 La Volupte/27 Fatalite in first act so can anyone explain me what the hell he's doing in this song?

  • he somehow survived -_-

  • He was stabbed yes; however he recovered. It is possible to stab someone without killing them every time you know D:

  • sorry, my mistake. i didn't noticed that Frollo sings "Esmeralda vous êtes accusée

D'avoir blessé le chez des archers". I thought he was dead, not only injured....

  • Thats not in this song! That is in "Le proces"!

  • indeed i know it:-)

  • Oh lol. Sorry I just thought that Frollo has parts to this song, but oh well, accidents happen *shrugs*

  • Lol you are certaintly right. When I read the novel, it said: "Men like him are not killed easily".

  • How come Phoebus sentences Esmeralda to be hung? He's supposed to love her, isn't he? Never understood that - I know he's supposed to marry Fleur de-Lys, but it's strange how he suddenly turned on Esmeralda.

  • He did not love Esmeralda. He just had lust for her. He used her. Like he does with almost every women.

  • Also, there's the fact that he believes that she tried to kill him...

  • Patrick Froi or Froier is great as Phoebus though i have ot admit really, all the cast in this play are well picked sorry for spelling his name rong, feel free to correct me

  • It's Patrick Fiori ;)

And yes, I agree with you, they're all very fitting. And all great actors and singers :)

  • thanks for the correct spelling

    much apprecieated!

  • I like the motions he always makes with his hands when he's singing...

    Haha.

    I notice the weirdest things

  • Its ok.

  • ok what is this deal with calling Phoeubs an "antihero?" THE GUY IS A BASTARD AND A VILLIAN AND AS BAD IF NOT WORSE THEN POOR CLAUDE FROLLO i mean he had the chance to speak up for Esméralda at her trial yet he just stood there and watched her suffer (i'm talking about the book) but he's no better in this opéra/musical people like Phoebus should be hung and laughed at!

oh and "Notre dame de Paris" is a wonderful musical and the book is the best book ever!

    (in my opinon)

  • Agreed!

  • i agree!!!! :@

  • He did not love Esmeralda. He just had lust for her. He used her. Like he does with almost every women.

  • Raise your hand if you want to strangle Phoebus! *raises hand*

  • *Yawn* I do not feel life it. Maybe next time!

  • I agree!! He's such an asshole in the original!!

  • *raises both hand and flaps them around hysterically*

  • Frollo never loved Esmeralda he only had lust plus he never even socialized with her,the only one who truly loved her was Quasimodo, and Phoebus was not a villain he was jusst an anti hero.

  • very true! phoebus seemed really in love but then he is only a man who looked for pleasure..

  • Quasimodos love was real he is the one who died from broken heart..not Frollo and jurk Phoebous just wel he's just a jurk who played with her feelings!!

    Ppl its just my opinion:)

  • no, no, i think most of us agree with you IZANA2007. I know I do

  • I do too.

  • Puh, he is not evil, he is just stupid and an antihero.

  • I don't like Fleur-de-lys's character... she sings funky. but yeah, Phoebus is a jerk only after one thing >=C boo!

poor frollo, he's forgotten how to really love.

  • If this what be in Iran in our days now, they would find out that she is innocent. She would say to him "Ha! thou are now foolish! I didnt do it!" Then she slaps him across the face. And he says "Oh God.........Thou are right thee..." Then she happily kickes him =).

  • Absolutely right you two. I still didn't like him from the beginning, just listen to "Belle" once more ("ma désirée laissez-moi vous être infidèle. Avant de vous avoir menée jusqu'à l'autel..." (unprecise translation: my beloved let me betray you, before I marry you) He's claiming that no one can blame him for his happiness in an earlier song, but still he's the guy I like the least in the musical so far)

  • Ya.... he knows exactly what he is doing the whole time...

  • Phoebus's the real bad guy I think, because he just used Esmeralda from the beggining cause she was beautiful

  • *Oh My God, You Killed Esmeralada, You Bastard*

Sorry nitemareshadows remindd me of that.

    Well quyntax is absoutley right.

  • dudes, calm down, phoebus thinks that esmeralda stabbed him, so its normal for him to want her dead.

of course, he is a douche, but he is certainly not pure evil.

  • phoebus will never know who stabbed him. What a scumbag!

  • I Hate u Phoebus

  • god, i hope he fries in hell!!

  • <throws rocks at Phoebus> >,< Grr he is the one who deserves to die. What a jerk!!

  • phoebus... scumbag, traitor

  • how can she love a man who treats her like that?!

  • I hate Phoebus!

  • I love how he sings this song, but Phoebus is such a jerk.

  • The bastard!
