  • is there any apps or any way thatni can download word to my tablet. I need to do some work on my tablet so i need some way to type for classes.

  • @AsyaSitzema1 You can get apps like Polaris Office, Documents to Go (Tablet version), etc. that are compatible with Office documents.

  • Nice video! Me acabo de comprar una y estoy muy contenta, solo me gustaria que hiciera un video de los mejores app para esta toshiva thrive..............gracias

  • i pad screen is not very good lots of bleeding and crap

  • open your mouth !!!!

  • Dude if you are going to post review videos try to open your mouth when you speak. This low pitch mumble grumble is awful.

  • thats for this vid bro , i going to buy 1 today..

  • they will not ix 3TB ext. HDD support because for that they need to increase voltage on a USb port. Unless your HDD has external power supply. Does it?

  • @AjvarD Yes. It won't support it because Android doesn't support NTFS (natively) and over 1TB.

  • why do you sound like such a douchebag?

  • @bigtrix24 why are YOU such a douchbag??????

  • Well since its launch and up until now how do you rate its performance? I know everyone has their own opinion on thus tablet but I'm just curious to know what yours is since you've tested it at its early stage. Thanks for the reply back.

  • @Gotmilk1971 I actually returned it 2 weeks after I got it (not because it was a bad tablet) so honestly I couldn't comment on it. But since it is now rooted and has had some updates, I'd say it has gotten a good amount better, and if I could get one at a deal (and had the extra cash) I'd certainly buy it again. Though I'd like to wait and see if Toshiba unleashes a Thrive 2 with the Kal-El or similar quad core processor.

  • can u test out autodesk sketchbook pro? i just wanna know if its responsive enough for sketching.. Im really leaning toward this over the ipad

  • I've been researching the thrive and I must say I've seen other reviews that didn't have as much trouble as your having. The videos played flawlessly, the web loaded pretty fast as for the screen yeah its not the best but it is what it is. Someone also hooked up the thrive to their tv . I do like the fact that u almosted covered every aspect of the thrive. I'm glad that I reviewed other post and user comments cause if I saw this as my first review I don't think I would have bought one.

  • @Gotmilk1971 This was posted as soon as the device launched.

  • I have both the iPad2 and this. iPad2 beats it hands down. Example: See those two bright LED lights in the upper left hand corner? They are on no matter what you do. At night they are like little flashlights shining in your eyes. Thanks for the headache, Toshiba. And the display? It works but it's not very good. I wouldn't want to watch a movie on it. Responsiveness? Sucks. Not as fast as the iPad2. It also comes with a 30 day anti-virus trial. Which means it gets viruses. No thanks. iPad FTW

  • Hi I would like to know if you are able to download microsoft office to the thrive.

  • ....00:21 "the screen" in a rlly high voice :p

  • I found toshiba thrive most practical with feature that allows

    User replaceable battery and back

replace-able back allows to renew it when we want

usb not only allows to share on disk(NTFS and virtually any other format can be supported with new drivers) but also using other hardware like keyboard ( just as a choice if you want)

HDMI allows to watch content on TV

    SD card to expand

    Quick Charging I love it.

but given other +s weight can be ignored, at least I can do that.

  • I just bought one and I love it. Where did u get your background wallpaper?

  • the ipad is nothing but a giant ipod .. this is a real tablet .. I'm thinking should I wait for the toshiba excite? At200 or just buy this

  • @norielove460 The Excite is more of a Gal-Tab-10 clone opting for super-slimness over practicality (no rubberised grip or full usb/hdmi ports). If the Thrive's "Hardware fan" angle appeals to you, it's still the better choice; the excite only has s marginally superior spec.

  • That test with the 3TB External seemed superfluous, though. Currently, nobody should expect a lot of devices between $100 and $900 that are that small to have on-board NTFS/1TB+ compatibility.

    I can imagine it's FAT32.

  • I seriously hope nobody expects the resolution and Processor on this device to yield 1080p HD video.

I know you were doing it to be objective, but it's happened before, even with a few iPhone models.

  • Holly shit look at his ps3 game collection... 0_o

  • Toshiba Thrive does have an IPS display.

  • @Mewstarz No it doesn't...

  • @Guitarrassdeamor Its an LCD IPS screen. I've googled it, looked at 5 sites, all confirm it.

  • @Guitarrassdeamor I liked the review though. I'm doing extensive research on this particular tablet, and enjoy watching the longer review videos.

  • Thrive rocks i just bought one its totally epic the size makes no difference the ports are something that should have been on tablets since the beginning. death to the I pad!!!!. Keep Thriving!!!

  • I like the fact that it allows an SD card and removable battery...

  • sell your $400

  • lol. omg, your going to block me? Oh noes...

I brought up another point because I do not need to prove anything to you. You think that the IPAD2 is the best tablet eva made, so be it. You are entitled to your opinion. Just don't try to put yourself off as an objective non biased reviewer, when, you are an APPLE fanboy. I could not careless that the thrive will not read NTFS drive. Using a USB drive to transfer files works for me. Does your IPAD2 detect NTFS drives?

  • @human151 Honestly, shut the fuck up. You're one ignorant petty little fuck, I'll give you that. I don't like the iPad, but it has a fucking nice screen. If you can't see that, you're a blind ignoramus. I'm a completely objective reviewer. I don't give a shit what you care about, I wanted it to read my drive, and it didn't. So I noted that. Of course the Apple won't read anything shit head, since when did I say anything or mention it would? Shut the fuck up and learn some fucking facts moron.

  • @Guitarrassdeamor Agree that the screen on the Ipad2 is nice, but i think the resolution could be higher

  • @MickBull094 I agree with you. I don't know if it could handle a higher resolution for videos and such though. I'd love a 1080p tablet, though not sure how well it would work out on the screens. 1600x1200 would be nice for the iPad 2.

  • screen....not as good as other tablets? WTF are you talking about? I have both an ipad and thrive. The screen on the thrive looks just as good, if not better than the screen on my ipad. -1 credibility

  • @human151 Well are you blind? Because that is the only way you couldn't tell the difference...iPad 2 screen is great. Better than Thrive for sure. And I hate the iPad 2.

  • @Guitarrassdeamor saying the screen is inferior to the others is merely your opinion. I was stating my counter opinion.

You stated that the screen appearance was inferior, as fact, when in fact, it is merely your opinion. I do not see it as inferior, so it must be you who is blind!

  • @human151 It actually isn't an opinion bud, it's fact...

  • @Guitarrassdeamor show me the source of these "facts", bud...

  • @human151 displaymate . com/Tablet_ShootOut_2.htm

For reference, the Thrive is most similar to the Xoom. iPad 2 has a high quality IPS panel vs a TN LCD on the Thrive.

  • @Guitarrassdeamor so you try to present to me as facts, another review website, where more "reviewers" (more like IPAD fanboys) go on about how superior the IPAD2 is. lulz.

You have to be the most thinned skinned reviewer on youtube, besides being an obvious apple fanboy, your reviews suck.

  • @Guitarrassdeamor you also go on and on about how the Thrive is not detecting your external hard drive....does your precious IPAD 2 detect it? oh, thats right, Apple does not give people the option of a USB port, or even an SD card slot. But...its so superior, hahaha

you want to move some files from your thrive to your PC or MAC? Just put them on the USB drive, take the USB to your copmputer and put them transfer them onto your drive. Takes all of 30 seconds.

  • @human151 So you switch from one attack to another because you failed at the first...nice. I never said the iPad 2 was superior except in screen quality. Please, if you're going to be a moron, at least have something to back it. The Thrive won't read drives over 1TB or in NTFS at the moment, unless rooted and given the ability.

Seriously, get some actual points, then try and argue them. Don't come back with stupid stuff like that again or I'll block you.

  • Good review but you sound so DULL!! My god man, I almost went to sleep! Liven up a bit! And stop saying "alright"!

  • thank u i will buy it by amazon ;) ,i'm from egypt :D

  • srry last ques can i download programes like tv and hacking programs :$

  • @awnyelattal I suppose you could download some programs that let you watch TV shows and/or movies, yes, and as for hacking programs I have no idea but since Android is open source I suppose so.

  • i wanna just ask one ques ?? can i download films and songs and can i use usb modems and can i download browsers such as google chrome and can i play games on fb and there is app for this tablet or not

  • @awnyelattal If you mean an actual dial-up modem, I have no idea. You can download whatever browsers are on the Android Market. Firefox, Dolphin HD, Opera Mobile, etc. You can play FB games since they use Flash, but some don't work well.

  • @Guitarrassdeamor would it play well or would it lag

  • I thought the screen had the same resolution as the galaxy tab???

  • @Rinconfish It does.

  • Heh, you sound like the soccer coach from home movies.

Once they get things rolling in the forums, we can have nice CPU overclocks. =] Then, we can play 1080 nicely.

  • @Gollsodia To be honest, I'm not even sure the Tegra will be able to do it because it isn't optimized for videos, more for gaming.

  • @Guitarrassdeamor I've read about other tablets overclocking the Tegra processor and playing 1080.

  • i read online NTFS wont be recognized by this device if you have a large external hard drive you wanna hook up then backup everything you have and format the drive to FAT32 . there is the one downside of this and this is you cant go above 4gb for each file but that doesnt seem like a big problem for most people

  • Hello there! I hope you can respond to some questions of mine about the Thrive. I've been thinking of getting one but there are some issues i'd like to confirm first:

    1. Video playback - what audio codecs have you tried (MKV files) and what does/does not work? How about subtitles?

    2. File Transfer - Can you mount the thrive as a mass storage device (like android phones) or do you rely on MTP or FTP or other file transfer methods?

    3. Hardware - How heavy is it? Do you experience strain holding it

  • @neilbantoc37 1. Specifically, I couldn't tell you, but the file(s) I was trying to play had 5.1 sound, and wouldn't play on the tablet. Though the video was fine, sound was nonexistent. Converting them to MP4 or similar with DVD Catalyst helped play them smooth with sound.

    2. It mounts as AT100 or similar for you to access movies, music, etc., so you can plug it right up, but you don't have access to the filesystem.

    3. It felt great in my hands, no strain, then again not a sissy iPad2 owner. :P

  • @Guitarrassdeamor

Thanks for the response! However, there were questions not answered. Haha

    1. So how about subtitles? Do they play? What mp4 converter do you use and what preset/settings?

    2. I guess it's MTP then, since you can't access the file system (mass storage)

    3. I found on XDA an app that can mount NTFS drives on HC tablets like your hard drive, i suggest you look it up.

  • @neilbantoc37 I don't know about subtitles, I personally don't use them so no reason in my immediate mind to try. The MP4 converter was DVD Catalyst, profile made for XOOM - 1280x752, 1500kbs,128kbs sound. The program is only for rooted devices, and the Thrive isn't rooted (though great progress is being made over at Thriveforums as we speak).

  • @Guitarrassdeamor I see.. I'm eyeing for a tablet to playback Anime, so subtitles are a big thing for me as i'm not a native japanese speaker.. Thank you for your responses! They have been quite helpful..

  • a lot of the reason flash video is a tad choppy, is the video boost feature, try disabling that in the settings.

  • @hengineer It was off.

  • @bobbyabe Get rockplayer lite to play mp4 files and other video formats

  • Yet another 'exhaustive' review that fails to try out the HDMI out port to a TV to play movies off of a USB drive.....

Please try that feature out and review with vid! :)

  • @bobbyabe Ye asks and ye shall receive. It'll be up by tonight.

  • @Guitarrassdeamor

Cool. thanks! I look forward to seeing if that works. also would be neat to see if Netflix (is that on Thrive yet?) works.

But mostly to see if I can play various avi, mp4, etc files I have from a USB drive on the Thrive and output it via HDMI to a TV for viewing.

  • @bobbyabe The video is uploading as I type. Netflix is not working because it has yet to hit Honeycomb due to security and/or licensing issues (so they say). There are rumors of it being put on the upcoming Lenovo Ideapad K1, so hopefully we see it in the next month or so.

  • haha just saw your name pop up on XDA !!

  • @gsharpshooter80 Yep, I am a member over there in the Samsung Fascinate community and hopefully the upcoming Thrive community.

  • I think you can run NTFS when rooted with a special kernel I'm using a kernel on my transformer to allow me to use NTFS, I have not tested it yet though but people are claiming it works. I'm not gonna lie I am tempted to get the thrive but each time I go to bestbuy and play with it the damn screen makes me not want it and the cheap feel of the back cover slightly bending when to much pressure on it, but we shall see, seems like I will keep the transformer though because I got it for a good deal!

  • @gsharpshooter80 Unfortunately the Thrive isn't rooted yet. When it is, I'm assuming this and other restrictions will be lifted. After continuous use of the Thrive, I'm convinced the screen isn't as bad as it is at first glance. The colors are good, and while not as bright as others, it is a good panel.

  • @Guitarrassdeamor Agreed, and yea I'm aware it's not rooted yet, let alone have its own place on xda but I'm sure its bound to happen any day now !

  • Liked the reveiw. You gave a little more info then the other post. Really appreciate that, but in the future try not to say "um" so much.

  • please tell me, can you watch Hulu,?? Some say yes some say no. Thankx

  • @lov3lana Hulu does not work. They have blocked Android devices.

  • Thanks for the review.

  • well good luck dude, I fell for the thrive way back when you did during CES. I'm not sure if I'll need to root it but post anything that makes it even cooler. also I'm not sure if you can but if you ever get the chance could you make a video comparing the screens of this tablet and maybe one of the others you mentioned for guys like me who arent display savy.

  • Its not choppy because of the tablet, its choppy because your internet is trying to buffer the video.

  • I'm shocked to hear some of the things in your review after hearing others.. I hope your happy with it eventually or get the transformer which is very nice, did you get the update that was pushed a few days ago? I'm sure that wont fix all the issues you're having but it might fix something.

  • @jalladin I'm hoping I do keep it, because once it gets rooted and rommed, I'm pretty sure the USB things will be fixed. I downloaded the OTA update, but didn't notice any real differences. I do really, really like the screen of the Transformer, and being a display guy, I'm still tempted towards it. I'll do a video update in a week or two depending on if I keep it or return it for the Transformer, but the outlook is looking to be that I'll keep it for now.
