this was great help...i just starteed learning this in my ag mechanics class and this helped me alot.....i just got done with arc welding.....thanks for making the video
Nice video man. Ive been on the fence for a long time on what to buy. Im always needing a torch to remove stubborn bolts and at the same time want a welder. I cant really afford a nice TIG welder but I have been TIG welding for my job for the last 8 years now. I consider myself good at it. Im not gonna spend a fortune on a torch but Im really considering the HOBART from Theisens. Dont know if Ill be cheap and use propane or if Ill buck up and go O/A. It will just be for my enjoyment
Close, TIG stands for tungsten inert gas. With a torch there is no tungsten or inert gas... But it is like tig just not as precise or controllable, but you are right about the no electricity part :)
@ChuckE2009 im learning welding in high school what am i doing wrong? because ocasionally the filler rod will pop and shoot sparks in my face. am i adding to much filler or what? please reply
totally wrong flame pal. you should only have a cone as a tip not a crazy long flame!! oxy/acet is still the easiet to do on pipework in position in buildings!! nice try
I have had many arguments with buddies about oxy/acetylene WELDING! They always say I'm talking about brazing. You are demonstrating welding obviously! I believe that I must put up with this stupidity because... As you pointed out, this is an old form of welding (the first). And while I took this in high school (really high... Lol) in 1985, it was not offered for long after that. The mig was popular soon after that time, if not then. Thanks for the video. Please people, don't criticize this for
i used to rock at brazing and i progressed to stick then mig and tig and i absolutely suck at brazing, now theres more bangs and explosions than a fireworks factory going up.
Wow thats neat. That filler rod is the same kind we used in metal tech last year. I failed at it haha, kause yah like you said it takes time. When i first started getting used to it we moved on to something else in class. And I did not know that you cood light the torch with the molten metal haha that was cool
Very Cool, I'm impressed Chuck.. So how long before the coat hangers start vanishing from the closets inside? I don't know if today's coat hangers are the same but they make good braising rods...
@scrapkilla321 Brazing is similar... With brazing, you only get the metal to red hot, instead of melting it. Its really good for attaching dissimilar metals, like putting a steel step or a bracket on a cast iron housing of something. Its almost like a glue, and about as strong as o/a fusion welding. The rod is usually brass, and has flux on it.
Welding, like this, takes two things (in this case, fender & filler rod) and melts them into one.
Filler rod, regular 3/32 RG45. Its basically a really thick steel wire, and you heat it up, and when the base material melts, you dip it in the puddle, and it becomes part of the base metal...
And this was the first time that ive used it for filling holes, but it worked really well...
ARE YOU BRAZING OR USING STEEL ROD !

haha thats about the hardest i think MIG easiest than SMAW than TIG and than Oxy-acetylene
1nstyZ28 5 months ago
those sparks are because your oxidizing the molten metal. And you have way more puddle control with the TIG.

Hey Chuck, Here's a tip for taking video. When taking video put your focus on manual setting, so it stays in focus through out your welding.
I been taking video for close to 30 years.
