Breeding for traits is something that man has done for centuries, domesticated dogs, cats and other 'pure bred' animals is a form of Eugenics. Eugenics is not always a bad thing and we do know that is works, the question is not if we can it's should we? You can breed populations to have certain traits, but what do to have after that? IVF would be a form of this too; whether on sees it as ethical or not is not for you to decide. I guess you can look at it as "pushed" natural selection.
