  • Ah, dorian. The intellectual scale.

  • Great video! thank you!

  • let it load a while, pause it, then press 3 and 5 back to back a few of times.

  • bet you're from greece!

  • hey ther i came up with a Dm-Cadd..........intro then goes to the Em-B-c progression ....any other scale i could use.......like e dorian..lol i was watch you dorian lesson.....lol

  • hey ther i came up with a Dm-Cadd..........intro then goes to the Em-B-c progressionany other xcale i could use.......like e dorian......lol i was watch you dorian lesson.....lol

  • what scale can i use over a Em-b-c.progressiion......the song start in Dm...

  • @jesterraj

    Em-B- C ....is E Aeolian

    the Dm doesn't fit...

  • couldnt i also just improvise over the Bm7 backing track using the b minor scale? Will it sound fine once the bm6 comes into place even though the 6th isnt in the b minor scale?

  • @xPurpleDrinkx9001

yes you can....Aeolian over the Bmin7

    Dorian over the Bmin6

  • @tziras thanks, i understand now.

  • couldnt i also just improvise over the Bm7 backing track using the b minor scale?

  • @xPurpleDrinkx9001

    this backing track contains Bmin6

you cannot play Aeolian over min6, Aaeolian has a b6

  • nice tone bro i got a question tho how do u no what scales u can play over the chord ur playing lets say Fmaj what scales can u play over it and why?

  • @kkkush79

    it is simple theory, e.g Cmaj=C E G

so i can play any scale from root "C" that has major 3rd (E) and perfect 5th (G)

i hope you got it...it is not difficult

  • what are the chord progression used in that backing track?

  • @MrCocuphy

    Bmin7 and Bmin6

  • @tziras so can i use this dorian scale over a minor natural chord progression?

  • another great lesson.. ur videos really helping me out.. more power and keep rockin!!! :D

  • thnx for another great lesson ziras

but after seeing ur other scales videos as well i think u should also make some videos about how u improvise over these i mean the licks u used in this videos.'i know these r simple licks for u but it will help an intermediate guitarist like my self a lot. thnx

  • @xeeet99

    i will post licks soon...

  • Thanks for sharing your lesson and upload. This is for the advanced if you only know simple starter chords and simple leads. I was happy you didn't play a million miles an hour. Lessons to me are explained well before actual playing or after or some times during. You did that, thanks for sharing. Keep teaching and playing!

  • thanks for the videos. Highly appreciate your expertise and clear explanations. Keep up the terrific work.

  • Flagging my comments as spam is not only primitive and rude but also won’t change the thing. He talks too much.

  • @lacanciondelacolita

personally i dont flag any comment, every opinion is respected....

there are millions of tutorial videos oin youtube

you have the choice to watch the one you like most......

  • @tziras Your integrity is appreciated so is your invitation. Actually, this particular message was to whom ignore such a civilized and fundamental rule. And you’re right. They all are opinions.

  • @lacanciondelacolita yeah but atleast when this guy talks it serves a purpose

  • @uoza92 YES! It does! 100% agree. And he’s good. But in my opinion it is better to invest more time in the instrument and less time talking. That’s why I quote “He talks too much” That’s it. where's the big deal? What is not acceptable is: 1) Taking opinions personally and react offensively 2) Abuse the power of flagging comments to protect himself from his rude conduct. Rock is freedom! Otherwise, what’s the point to learn what he’s teaching?

  • Wow, great lesson and great improv jam. I could hear in my head all kinds of directions this could go in with key changes. Can't wait to get home and jam along with this for awhile tonight - Ευχαριστώ :-)

  • Thank you for your invitation. I think you should play more and talk less. These times is when everyone talks and they succeed with it. But who cares the walk? Well, art is one of the last refuges. The more you play, the more real artist will appreciate what you DO.

  • @lacanciondelacolita Just what kind of nonsensical babble was that comment all about? "But who cares the walk?" <--- Did you use some kind of bad translation to English program for that brilliant gem of a statement? LOL

  • Comment removed

  • @lacanciondelacolita Seriously, your original comment made no sense whatsoever to someone who speaks English natively, Mr. Song of the Tail. I never purported to be an erudite writer, but yes, I am an illustrious speaker, muchas gracias. I give you extra credit though for your astute understanding of "brilliant gem" as being an ironical metaphor. Muy bueno! Theodore Ziras IS showing you how to play through both language and demonstration. If you can't deal with the talking, stick to tablature.

  • @ElevenBravo Your Almighty Divine Sentence is to me indescribably devastating. God decided that my “original comment made no sense whatsoever to someone who speaks English natively” And named me “Mr Song of the Tail”Eternally! OH! God’s multilingual but forgot to say GUACAMOLE… and THE POINT HERE. He talks too much and that’s it. Want to learn a lesson, Deity? Go to duey101 “Comfortably numb Solo#1” Divinity: You “illustrious speaker” can’t deal with guitar players? Stick to sermons

  • Thanks for the friend invite, yes well done you explain the DORIAN mode very well, happy to add you

  • I just love how it sounds. I really like your music, Theodore. CHEERS!!! from Colombia!!!

  • does "minor 3rd" mean a un natural 3rd note like a # or a b note?

  • @bubywashere

minor 3rd= 3 semitones up from the root

  • @tziras

im self taught dude wats a semitone?

  • @bubywashere

    1 semitone=1 fret

  • I suposed that the way to let its caracteristic sound to to each mode isto play the notes which make difference with the minor in it case. I hope that is the idea, I have some preblems with that subject, the key is the root but whar are the other notes which define each mode?

    Thak you Ziras

  • @mendozaangel666

the 6th degree is the key note that makes Dorian sound differend than aeolian

  • @tziras OK, thank you I will practice it!!

  • @tziras OmG! THANK YOU!!! keep up the great work, you are GREAT!

  • hi, what scale to use to get "santana-ish" sound?

  • @faridzayish

    Aeolian , Dorian

  • Your tone is "sexy" .. what is your setup ? and thanks for the friend request.. it really an honored..

  • @mrz258

the tone is Line6 POD X3

  • @tziras Yeah but what are the settings on the POD he meant, those are more important than the POD itself :)

  • does some1 know where i can download a backing track?

  • @pedent1

check my website.....Videos .. Lick of the week section

  • @tziras thanks for the tracks i just learned this at my guitar lesson and its fun to have a backtrack

  • nice improvisation...can you play dorian mode over EVERY minor chord??

for example when aeolian fits can you also play dorian in addition??

  • @geia4

if you are talking about static minor chord....yes

  • thanks bro. great video and lesson. Loved it.

  • your simple stuff seems very challenging... pretty cool lol

  • i like your lessons, i am leftly like you

  • man, this was like a light bulb going on in my mind. I've been playing for quite a time but was never friends with modes, but you are an awesome teacher and made the whole thing tasty and understandable. Thank you very much!

  • thanks ....can u demonstrate on how to make instrumental tracks?

  • @joultu

this is technically dificuly to do it

  • You should do a lesson on getting an outside sound like Scott Henderson or Allan Holdsworthl

  • @MrUsedBooks

    i did a similar topic..check Lick 97

  • @tziras I will definitively check it out. Is there anything you can't play?

  • @MrUsedBooks

    yes... a lot ...

  • "I'm going to play something simple now, and melt your face off..."~Ziras

  • I have learned a lot with your videos

  • Absolutely love your lessons man, this is the reason i fired my teacher. Do you think you could do a video just talking about your custom, what you like, personal preference and all that? I think that would be pretty sick.

    Thanks.

  • @ZaneAffixation

i will do a special video about this guitar +for another one that i am making

PS.. please get your teacher back....!!

  • yet another great lesson

  • what accent is that man never heard it?

  • also Apache from The Shadows in in dorian?

  • @sallimann345

    yes it is...

  • Tasty jam sir

  • Thanks a lot ,you put a lot of theory on the lesson i love that thanks a lot really !!!!!!!

  • excellent lesson

  • man!! that 2nd backing track sounds great!! I love it! I can't download the backing track. Error#2032

  • @devvilboyy676767

    the link works fine....

  • @devvilboyy676767

The first one ''Rock E Aeolian'' gives this error but I downloaded the others no probs.

  • @Zed1967 same here. the others work except that one

  • man!! that 2nd backing track sounds great!! I love it!

  • Just curious, what brand of string do you use?

  • @icallgreens

    D addario 9's (XL120)

  • ANOTHER great lesson, thank you!!

  • Excellent!!!!!

  • Why is this in my sub box?

    sub'd now:]

  • subtitles pls

  • pause at 0:23 seconds! lol

  • @tziras. Erm, seeing in this solo using bends quite a lot, how do you get your bends so accurate in pitch becasue sometimes when i play over your tracks and use bending it sometimes sounds off but other times it sounds great.

  • You think people would learn more by mirroring the video? Or if you kept the video as a lefty, people would play it like they were looking on a mirror? I'm gonna kill myself now.

  • @keyblok

the 95% of the viewers are right handers

  • @tziras yeah, it's kinda obvious, but I rather leran from a left handed so I can follow his hand when it goes to the left or right, not losing myself in the moment xD

You're pretty good by the way, keep up man

  • @keyblok hes a fucking legend

  • @keyblok Hahah, "pretty good". This guy is up there with the best bro.

  • @PinkyWontWork You know what I meant.

  • @tziras Right but what he is saying is correct. Since you're a Lefty..it's much easier for right handed players (if they have brains) to pick up on what you're playing because it's a mirror image. Much easier to follow..it's why my past teachers would say, "how come you pick up what I'm doing so quickly and never ask me to slow down or stop". I'm also Lefty so it was like looking at a mirror.

  • i think i understand what your saying???

  • Your lessons is one of the main thing why i practiced every night.so i thanked you!

  • it would be cool to see what the chords are. I've always been slightly confused about which chords you can use to keep in one scale apart from in major.

  • @damillionmalania

    Dorian is Min, Min6, Min7

  • @tziras madd9, madd4/or 11

  • @damillionmalania the major scale includes aeolian, dorian, lydian, phrygian and some more

  • @sallimann345 Not really what I was asking for, but thx anyway I guess.

  • the scale reminds me of the doors' - light my fire

  • @assasinator1980

    you are right

  • Holy shit!!! dude, you're really good! I'm happy I subscribed. Please keep teaching! God bless!

  • I absolutely love your lessons bro...I don't comment all that often as I hate sounding like a knob or ass-kissser...But I truly think you are brilliant! Keep up the awesome vids brother!

    Het

  • @Hetriani

    you dont have to comment...

just watching and "like" is enough

  • @tziras i always do brother :) but I wanted to be sure and tell ya how much i respect you and how great i think you are...I just don't want to overdo it...LOL \m/

  • @Hetriani

    thank you

  • @Hetriani i agree he is too briliant

  • Love this! Very inventive. Definite influences of Vinnie Moore in that progression. (I think you've met him haven't you Mr Ziras)

On the "notes per string" I think it's because it's a more comfortable shape for the pressing hand, rather than the more stretchy 3 notes per string. (especially when putting a fret between each finger, as you'd otherwise have to do)

  • @skingaz

yes.. i met Vinnie Mooore 10 years ago

you can use any shape suits you

  • @tziras I thought you had (I remember seeing some pictures of the event somewhere) I'm sure you're playing scared him! :) I was just making a suggestion re: shape, to Hardysamnin....because he said he couldn't get his head around it. The important thing is to get the right NOTES, is it not?

I'm a left-hander myself, and while I'm not in your league speed wise, I'd love to meet and jam with you. (you've heard that a few times I bet)

  • @skingaz

    yes it is...

  • Best teacher ever!

  • Can't get my head round why he plays 2 notes on the A

  • GO ZIRA

  • kewl
