This is one of the best movie i have ever seen. I honestly say that the first part, when they meet, it's the most beautiful part, when 2 lovers see each other for the first time !
i love this movie. i loved it. great acting and everything. saw it in theater. i was young. i dont remeber when excially when it came out. my dad took me to see it. i was surprised. he hardley ever went to see movies he would not like. he falls asleep in movies he does not like.
Without trying to be patronising, I feel for people who are blind or deaf, because not being able to see beautiful things like colours and scenery would be awful. And not being able to hear music...I couldn't bare that.
that's because we sighted people know what it's like, a blind person had they been born that way never seen anything in their whole life so they don't know what they're missing same with deaf people, I think it would be more tragic to lose your sight or hearing when u could see or hear before than to be born that way.
Puffy: I'm actually legally blind, which means I have some small amt of residual vision just not enough to read reg or lge print & I'm colorblind. Hwr, I'd much rather lose my sight than my hearing b/c I love the sound of music & the outdoors, children laughing, birds, etc... entirely too much to lose my hearing. I'll live with the vision loss, not gratefully or even gracefully but as best I can.
BTW, I'm blessed to know Barb, Shirl's wife/widow. Shirl is the name of the man the character of Virgil is based on in At First Sight. It's a great movie but difficult to watch at times considering the liberties, too many, the movie took w/his life; hwr, I'm grateful Shirl & his loving wife had the chance to open the eyes of the world to the lives of the blind. I feel many sighted were truly blind to the blind life b4 this movie. RIP Shirl 10/26/03; Thx for the friendship Barbara.
I love Val Kilmer, but hate to say it, what ruined this movie for me, was one of the most ridiculous lines ever spoken in a movie, "have you ever wondered what it would be like to see?" Duh!!! The man is blind, like he hasn't spent his entire life wondering? Stupid, stupid, question. Stupid, stupid line.
I can see your point, but if he had made peace with his condition he might no longer long to have what he didn't have. He is who is was and he might have been simply happy with that. His life before she came along wasn't so bad.
sunn: There are many liberties taken w/this movie as with others "based on.." hwr, as a blind person, I have people ask me questions like that often. I'm always happy to answer. The more educated people are, the easier it is for the sighted to accept the blind & for the blind to feel more comfortable & welcome in a sighted world. Hey, it never fails when I pay for something at a register the cashier asks for my drivers license - while my guide dog stands beside me.. LOL!!!! Talk about ???? LOL!
I love this song. At the theater almost nobody got up during the credits. You could tell they were enjoying the music. I know I went out a bought a few Diana Krall CDs.
This is one of my ALL TIME favorite songs Diana Krall sings the HELL out of this song I saw her in concert and I broke down crying perfect for a wedding song.
