  • Like a dog meowing.

  • I love Simon :D he's friggin hilarious xD

  • Simon at 2:30 was hilarious. Also, really pitchy. Really, really pitchy.

  • horrible

  • i don't know why people are so impressed by this...i mean, i sing bass, but i can also sing as a countertenor. it's just honed falsetto. but props for this man for nailing it.

  • I've heard many countertenors and i'm afraid i have to say this is a really bad quality countertenor voice.

  • No one has mentioned how the castrati were the precursors of the countertenor - am I correct??? If these people are shocked by his voice, they will be more so when they read about the castrati!

  • He claimed that his voice was extremely rare, but I've been listening to countertenors for the past 30 years. They're not that rare anymore - I've heard at least 9 different countenors in person who have incredible voices, but Philippe Jaroussky is my favorite! I suppose if you're not a baroque music afficionado, you probably wouldn't hear the voice.

  • PUAJJJJ

  • Kalaf is a MAN with BALLS not a FAG

  • Whilst Greg undoubtely has a talent, to hear a truly gifted countertenor, please do take a moment to search for 'Stephen Diaz Wanganui Opera New Zealand', even Handel would be moved!

  • why not listen to Greg singing La Habanera or Walking in the Air - both on here if you do a search - and way more recent

  • it sounds like he just took a bowling ball to the nads.

  • agreed with most of the comments here... with voice training he would maybe be good, but not really pleasant... and the fact the people like Simon Cowell doesn't even know what a countertenor is disgraceful.

  • Plenty of better countertenors. This one sings everything in fortissimo. Horrible to listen to.

  • LOL..."Like a dog meowing"...simon was certainly in a tail spin!

  • I agree with moltoallegro. Classical music is the basis for all music.

  • He actually sounds like a genuine girl.

  • Have these judges never heard of an countertenor? If they had they would probably know that this is not an example of a good one. His voice is so forced it's almost painful to listen to.

  • as panty AND stocking would say......"BWWHAT DA FUCK!!!" 0.0

  • "A great act"...? Are they stupid or just ignorant? This is a VERY established artform! GOSH! Would it kill people to listen to anything written before the 1950's once in a while?

  • @moltoallegro19 It´s incredible how much wonderful music ordinary people miss. Palestrina, Händel, Haydn, Mozart, Bach, Liszt, Schubert, Schumann, Di Lasso, Chopin, Verdi, Tarrega, Sor, Vivaldi. The list is endless. 300 years glanced over in school as "Beethoven, Bach and Mozart". One student said "Classical music is boring and slow, only good for relaxing". For this kid, I played Night on Bald Mountain, Ride of the Valkyries and Verdi´s Dies Irae. The kid changed his mind.

  • @LoverofLiszt Haha, awesome!

That's the problem, though: stereotypes. Most people could probably relate to and love classical music, if only they knew it and realized that "classical" isn't just a slow, boring type of music for old and pretentious people, but a lable for many genres spreading over half a millenium, including some (most!) of the most powerful, moving and sincere music ever written.

  • I LOVE countertenors. He's right though - he is a male soprano - too high for countertenor. Wish more people knew about them.

  • @knittingnickel9 The male soprano voice (aka sopranist) is a subtype of countertenor. All sopranists are countertenors but not all countertenors are sopranists.

  • Amanda is such an ignorant. Piers does not know where he is exactly. Simon is a prick, but quite knowledgeable. And Greg is pretty laid-back. He should work a lot on his voice, though.

He could be a great performer.

  • How old is he? Too old for puberty right? I thought so...

  • He's not Countertenor. He's more like.... Soprano

  • TINY TIM!!!!!

  • I must say, he sounded good but I've always appreciated the masculinity of this piece, if anything. He's got a nice falsetto, but if you listen to the world-class tenors who sing this, the richness of the full voice just can't be replicated by impressive range.

  • OMG How are they the judges if they have never heard of falsetto?!

  • @metalheadlass Not falsetto. That's his full voice.

  • actually, falsetto isn't really hard to make; the only problem is..... it doesn't usually gets THAT high (unless you're talented.. lol) or powerful enough to sing... he's great....!

  • @celsius1360 That wasn't falsetto, that was just a bad ass head voice.

  • @jayySC2 it is his falsetto. scientifically, no man with a fully formed larynx (as evidenced by his speaking) is physically capable singing in a countertenor/male soprano range in full voice

  • @no1cares214 True for the most part, although it is not exactly impossible to sing in full head voice in the countertenor range. It is impossible to sing in chest voice that high, however.

  • @tristanhnl It's fun singing in Soprano range. It really is.

  • gross

  • Pavorotti sang tenor or bass not eunich pitch

  • Actually, technically, using falsettos makes you NOT a countertenor, to be a countertenor, you have a natural singing range (falsettos and vocal fry do not count in vocal range) in the countertenor range.

  • @trooubermensch That isn't true, Philippe Jaroussky uses falsetto to sing and is a world class countertenor. Many countertenors can also sing bass because they do use falsetto.

  • and the judges are idiots likin' it!

  • non-trained, raw falsetto... just atrocious! awww my ears!!!

  • I'can't believe it! Wow

  • Never sure whether the moronic looks from the judges are them playing to the cameras or whether they really are that ignorant of music. This piece wasn't really a good choice for this voice, maybe something more baroque where he could use his pitch to float across the melody and didn't have to go for big notes, which sounded too forced. Most countertenors peak about 10 years older than this guy, so he may get there.

  • Dreadful nonsense. He has a voice I suppose but he has poor breath control and his Italian is worse than butchered.

  • It was most strange--He could reach upper registers in a way that most counter-tenors cannot , but his voice seemed to lack that "bell-like" ethereal quality of the great counter tenors , such as Deller, who could combine that bell like sound with a coloratura ornamentation. I would have liked to have heard him sing some baroque instead , perhaps some Purcell such as "Come, Come Ye Sons of Art"

  • horrible :S

  • yes, he's a countertenor but.. i don't like it :Z

  • he cant hold it too much;

  • isn't this a tenor aria?

  • yeah these judges are idiots

  • This guy is very good. And I can't believe Simon and Pierce Morgan haven't heard of a countertenor! The performer is correct, during the baroque period women were not allowed to sing in the church, thus boys or men (capable) carried the "female" vocal portions of the musical works. Bach composed wonderful pieces utilizing countertenors.

  • jkimisyellow, where are you

  • <3 his hair.

  • Truthfully, once you get past the surprise, his voice isn't that spectacular.

  • @bereantrb Very true.

  • @bereantrb Really far away from Philippe Jaroussky

  • To much vibrato for my taste. I prefer countertenors like Andreas scholl.

  • Impressive!

  • He is wonderful! Countertenor is an extremely difficult technique to perfect. Every man has a falsetto, and many go quite high, but to sing with such a pure and sealed tone while keeping the high is VERY difficult. I would like to see a bit more support, and his pitch is often a bit unstable because of it. But the voice is FABULOUS. It's funny though how these judges call themselves "singing professionals" when they don't even have a clue as to the past 500 years of singing before "pop" existed.

  • The audience is looking around... Looking around for this guys nuts.

  • Love it AMAZING

  • lol wut?

  • this is fake, OBVIOUSLY!

  • @Baiconte You have obviously never heard of a counter-tenor before then.

  • @Franciscanplaypiano I think you never because countertenors don't sound as an exact woman, only closer

  • NE AZZECCASSE UNA!!!

  • just saying, i half expected his hair to turn yellow and get even spikier, that was freaking AMAZINGG :D

  • Seeing Simon that amazed and amused at the same time really is rare. Greg got him good!

  • THIS WAS GREAT! I AM TRULY IMPRESSED!

  • I have been amazed.

  • Heres another countertenor, watch?v=jLuy08eVQ3U

  • What a hero xD

  • I dunno how long that career is gonna last with that singing... or italian. Nice surprise though.

  • at first amanda was thinking, "should I cry or not?"

  • Ok stop hating on this guy. He did wonderfully. Bravo :)

  • I don't like the timing of his breaths..... longer phrases, please.... and that last note, longer!!!!

  • from the first note he just wasn't there - ick

  • Newfags never seen a countertenor.

  • Looks like someone shaved a monkey and dragged it through topman (to quote Frankie Boyle). Yeah, he's not a great singer and not really a counter-tenor either. If you want to listen to a true counter-tenor, just search "Handel Countertenor" (or another Baroque composer of your choice). Shows like this really annoy me, the 'singing' talent they show is always second rate. Stick to dancing dogs and magic tricks.

  • Does anyone else think he looks like a Sims 3 character?

  • Comment removed

  • PLEASE leave Nessum Dorma alone...only Pavarotti mastered this aria that now every tom dick and harry thinks they can sing!

  • @truediabolique69 That is not true. Many other operatic tenors can sing Nessun Dorma perfectly.

  • @truediabolique69 Pavarotti and Jussi Björling*

  • this girl has a really nice voice

  • What the fuck is this shit? I never watched this show but it seems that it's highest goal is to destroy Turandot. First Pol Pot, now this shit, I wonder who will butcher the aria next...

  • @Allzumenschliches44 hahaha i didn't mean to read your post but your reaction makes me laugh..well i never thought ..i was surprise that a guy can sing like that ..very authentic but i maybe chose pol pot ..and this one maybe if you cover his face you might actually didn't ever think that he was a man..

  • @Allzumenschliches44 but he was actually good

  • @Allzumenschliches44 You sir are an idiot.

  • me van a cortar la verga , te van a mamar la verga

  • mucha onda, pero cantó cualquier cosa!

  • Beautiful voice, but I don't like the voice type for this particular aria. There is so much I'd love to hear him sing, though. This really didn't do it for me, though. Talent is OBVIOUSLY there, though.

Honestly? I'd like to hear him try something like the Queen of the Night (vengeance aria entitled "Der Holle Roche") area from the Magic Flute if he has the ability to change notes like a dramatic coloratura soprano.

  • Obviously this people has never seen a countertenor is their lives, goshhh.

  • now that's TALENT

  • Sweet voice!

  • Que bueno Cesar!! no me lo esperaba así, evidentemente....(francesca)

  • That's not a countertenor. Here you have a COUNTERTENOR:

    /watch?v=ES8mAMQ6uk4

  • someone give back his nuts

  • He needs to anunciate his words, yes he has an unusual voice and it is high, but that is no exscuse for being unclear. It would be like a bass growling out an entire song, it wouldn't be very impressive. With that said, he is very good it could be a world better with just a couple minute changes. In my opinion.

  • @chico388 How about you try to sing like that and just decide "Oh, I think I'm gonna pronounce this perfectly when it takes all my strength to maintain a clear quality"

  • to be honest he was just ok. I've heard better countertenors and the rock star song that is playing for him is misleading. They're misleading on purpose.

  • If I could get that kind of attention as a countertenor, I'd be incredibly happy. I can only go up to an A6, but I hope to have a C6 by the time I'm out of college.

  • @Chaosdude7111 Of course, I am not a classical countertenor, and more of a "gender bend female songs in falsetto" kind of countertenor.

  • simon at 2:14 that was priceless he was like UUUUUUUUUUh

  • I don't know how I SHOULD react to this... the only thing I can say is... me gusta.... o_________0

  • Does he have balls?

  • Comment removed

  • @deepdarkmidnight i wasnt being serious u idiot.

  • i can actually do a similar trick using falseto though this guy's speaking voice is rather a normal baritone and mine ine is like Adam Lambert though I havent learn to go as high

  • @AtanasKojuharov his voice isnt a normal baritone at all

  • I got goosebumps on goosebumps.

  • never judge a book by its cover... O_O

  • I'm still in shock, totally incredible.

  • I expected some deep tone . . .but this is just LOL ! ! ! great job man

  • Justin Bieber's voice at age 24

  • im stealin his voice and hair

  • His voice is almost as high as Justin Bieber's

  • @jaSmiNe1223335 not almost as high

he can sing much higher than justin bieber

justin bieber cant go thaaat high

the singer of linkin park can just go as high as him but in contrast to justin bieber he sounds like a man

  • @JakobRobert00 it was just a joke

  • @jaSmiNe1223335 oh really?

  • no wonder his mom wants him 2 shut up

  • Good goood, he needs to work it but awesome! Unique!

  • play once, listen simon's comments, replay and look at him while he sings, HILARIOUS!!!

  • <3

  • it's obvious he's untrained, but does everyone have to be so bitchy?

  • b5 is not soprano.... metzos have C's

  • What the Hell?!

  • Good voice, but MAN this guy needs to work on his diction. "Blah blahhh blahh blahhh blahh blahhhh...." Couldn't make out a single word.

  • Piers doesn't know how to appreciate anything.

He has some breathing problems definitely......there were SO many problems.

On the contrary, I think his tone was GREAT. ~ for a counter-tenor.

  • Contertenorist or counterterrorist? Seriously I love seeing Simon flummoxed. Greg definitely should stick to rock as the tone quality and phrasing are just not anywhere near opera level. Superb high range. How many octaves can he handle?

Anybody remember Tiny Tim? He managed to scratch out a novelty career with far less talent.

  • just not fluent enough

  • @KillzTaSpit I'd go one better, no technique and not really an appropriate piece for his type of voice

  • es ra jandabaaa? :D

  • this man has unbelievable control over his vocal cords! hats off to you sir!

  • I've heard a famous counter tenor perform live in recital. It's a bizarre experience.

They sing the repertoire the castrati used to.

  • He's awesome!

  • IT probably took him about 7 years to get his voice like that.

  • If this guy had shown up on America's Got Talent people would have started laughing. It's sad, because there's a lot of talent in America, but not enough intelligent people to recognize it...

  • @TheyCallMeThatPerson That's because in the UK, they have classical programmes like the Proms on national TV that are as popular as football/soccer matches... the US is a cultural wasteland compared to the UK in many ways.

  • I wonder if justin bieber can go this high.

  • @Doodorz

The real question is: can Justin Bieber go this low?

  • @Doodorz aside from disliking mentioning Just beiber; beiber can only go this high if hes on crack and has his balls clamped by an alligator.

  • @Doodorz if they give him a wedgie he PROBABLY can lol

  • LINDO ABALOOO

  • but he's just an amateur countertenor. huge problems with pitch, breath and sustains. hope he will improve with fame and money. to see real well-trained countertenors check out Peter Gilles and Alfred Deller

  • Not a counter-tenor, just has an unusually strong falsetto. I can do this in my falsetto.

  • @rytsinger A counter-tenor generally sings in his falsetto, with some use of head voice (and even chest voice on the lowest notes).

  • @rytsinger me too

  • @rytsinger that's the whole definition of a countertenor. with his low voice he was supposed to be a baritone, but he feels more comfortable singing in high falsettos registers. the classifying of a voice is always related with the way u feel mroe comfortable singing.

  • O.O

  • -___- hes not a countertennor thats fallseto (im pretty shure it is but forgive me if it isnt but a true conter tennors speaking range is way higher also.)

  • @spadesofchaos No , firstly thats not falsetto. At the upper reaches the sound is still strong , falsetto will break and be a weak sounding high sound. Secondly on you query about hes speaking voice. Go youtube "Brett manning vocal range" Hes speaking voice is low, but he can also go real high.

  • he isn't actually a countertenor, hes is a baritone. singing in that pitch doesn't make someone a countertenor.

  • @allthenamesrtook countertenors are baritones :p

  • @pedy19 no they arent ahaa

  • @allthenamesrtook Yes they are. I´m one so I should know. And so far, even in opera, all the countertenors I´ve met/listened to/heard of are baritones.

  • @pedy19 you can not be two types of singers. it is not possible you are one and only one

  • I was expecting some King Diamond grade shit.

    GRANDMAAAAAAAAA!!!! lol

  • i don't understand all this tenor countertenor stuff it's so confusing !! argh.... checked it out on wikipedia still don't get it lol

  • @sheru7mera7naam007 its just the pitch at what people sing. countertenor, tenor, baritone and bass they are the order of the singing pitchest with countertenor being the highest

  • fag

  • @montecarlostar , jealous !

  • @montecarlostar someone's jealous they're not talented like this

  • @therealhatianprinces talented? he sounds like a histerical bitch. No wonder he has not been taken seriously in the world of opera, but he's good for the ignorant masses

  • Sopranist..

  • wtf is this shit lols???

  • Greg discusses his singing technique in an interview about his forthcoming classics tour that he has just given a fansite about a forthcoming classics tour -

    w w w greg pritchard .co

  • i thought the talent of countertenors is that they don´t need head voice to sing high.

with head voice any man can sing about one octave higher

  • i would love to hear him sing stella errans, can he also sing tenor?

  • @SytheClaw It's expected that he could sing tenor, because of his normal tenor voice. Countertenors have the ability to sing both with a male and female register!

  • cool!

  • I hate when people just concentrate on the negative and don't give people props when its necessary. So easy to criticize. Yes, he needs work. Yes, his breathing is bad, splitting the words etc (¿You guys ever sing when your extremely nervous? Messes up your breathing!!!), and he needs work on phrasing and proper pronunciation but he has a WONDERFUL voice and shouldn't be over looked 'cause of technique. May he receive the proper training to make that voice really amazing!!

  • he doesn't even have a nice voice, if you want to hear a proper countertenor listen to andreas scholl where ere you walk and come back

  • am, that's called falsetto, and a bad one, by the ways, oh and that aria from Puccini's Turandot, just so you know was written for a tenor voice, which I'm pretty sure you couldn't even pitch. Be safe, and please, stop "performing" music that you don't know how it works...thank you.

  • The most I watch this , the more extraordinary it becomes.

  • O.O OMG COUNTERTENOR IS AWESOME!!!
