  • The Phillipines were dominated by the Spanish and colonized for 3 centuries.

  • @AnarchisticGringo well, the spanish were more advanced than the filipinos(in weapons and such)so ofc they would win. Doesn't mean the filipinos can't fight.

  • is this from filipino land xD ? i mean filipeans or something... srry

  • @luckyduckfuck obviously, yes, and u spelled it wrong, it's philppines =)

  • keep your shit martial art, it dont work anyway, only thing we want is your women

  • some of the words he is saying is of spanish origin i believe?

  • Comment removed

  • I think they come from Spain not Italian

  • ive just started studying escrima and i was curious.. does this come from some italian influence??? because some of the terms used are italian

  • ugh so much of a fool when strikeing you relax all ur fingers except for your thumb and index finger then right befor contact you squeese HARD so the tip of the stick is accelerated to deliver maximum force and i NEVER "block" i ALWAYS either intercept the atack or let it flow past and use it against my oponent

  • Is angular momentum the word you were looking for

  • Ok video.. The only thing is the reason for holding the stick at the end isn't for more of a whip, It's actually so your opponent cannot take the stick away.. Which is very easy if your leaving too much room for him to do so.. It's the first thing I learned when I started training... If he we're too grab your hand and stick at the same time and twist... You just lost your weapon...

  • I beleive that the late G.M. Remy Presas would be fine with any qualified teacher regardless of nationality . He wanted to spread it around the world remember . R.I.P. Professor .

  • If you can use a stick, you can use a Bolo or Machete.

  • I'm trying to learn from real masters and grand masters. I know many of them through my dad, thats a master in serrada escrima himself.

  • FILIPINO PRIDE!

  • this fucking thing has a black screen of death what the fuck

  • sweet sweet can any one tell me why the filipinos used sticks? didnt they have swords ?

  • @kaindrg Spanish invaders banned possession, read up on the Barong filipinos had to wear as a slave culture. Similar to bans in Japan that lead to use of kama/nun-chaku for fighting.

  • woo go fillipinos!!!!! (we rule) :3

  • @gizmomon1234567 Yes but the Spanish ruled you for 300 years.

  • Very nice vid about escrima and filipino martial'art !

  • hmm, could have looked a bit more professional there m8. raggedy capris and a v neck dont exactly scream "Disciplined Escrima Practitioner". And holding ANY weapon at the very bottom is a horrible idea regardless of preference just because striking an object (or person) with your grip so low could damage your wrist and cause an unnecessary amount of shock-wave.

  • hmm im studying Isshinryu karate, and the word karate means empty handed, but im buying two escrimas because my friend bought a bo staff so we can duel, but would somone consider it dishonor to combine isshinryu and an escrima technique?

  • @FADMShinysides Not to correct you, but Karate means "China hand" in Okinawan. It's the Japanese who call Karate "empty hand." And many styles of Okinawan Karate teach weapons techniques. And no, it's not a dishonor to combine Isshin Ryu and Escrima. many styles, such as Shotokan, Kyokushin, Jeet Kune Do, and Hapkido came as a result of combining different styles together.

  • Salut s @ 44excalibu , Je Trouve Très interessante Votre explication sur le karaté. donnions une bonne leçon Et cela me Donne PEU de l'ONU d'espoir au Québec UNO Avec Mon AMIS SONT Peut-etre possible : l'ONU " patchwork " de techniques Différente Somes Avec Word .

Thanks ! and all the best for you !

    greeting from France

  • @Berkanno You're welcome! All the best for you, as well!

  • @ 44excalibur Thanks !

  • why is the world still so racist? I mean it's filipino, I'm filipino but I mean cmon guys, i dont care if you're chinese, indian, white, european, w/e you are as long as the art is respected I also respect you.... but if you dont respect othe cultur'es arts, then just dont fight it, just stay away form what you don't like...

  • Is there any guide how to defend against one opponent who got my sticks while I fell down or something like that?

  • sticks that are used in escrima vary greatly in length - from 5 inches to 6 feet and all sizes in between. each stick has a particular method and usage depending on the combat range. most escrimadors practice all sizes but each of them prefer a certain length. in a real combat situation, an escrimador can pick up any length of stick and use it.

  • there is no such thing as 32 inches escrima sticks... the longest length is 30 inches and the shortest is 28 inches.

  • i've trained with a 33 incher once, but you're correct in a way. eskrima sticks more than 30 inches aren't very practical. i'd never use one more than 30 inches in a real fight/self-defense scenario.

  • @marcue21 That is completely wrong.

  • @kaliprophet Hey prophet, enlighten us. For a beginner this is good info.

  • @ro9nin My comment was directed to the person that said escrima sticks are only between 28 and 30 inches long. His statement is completly wrong. I like the video. Thought it was well done

  • @kaliprophet I guess I took you out of context. My bad.

  • It wasn't until I joined Kung Fu that I realized how bad you can fuck someone up with just a foot-2foot stick . . .

  • @kyleismrsmiley a Bo staff can deliver some deadly blows

youtube the episode on fight science

  • @mrfrosty8172 never said it couldn't, that length isnt always going to be available though. Thats why I find kali and escrima to be such badass!

  • @kyleismrsmiley i wanna learn to fight with rope

    thats stuff is everywhere

just like on the boondock saints

you dont know what your gonna need it for, u just know ur always gonna need it!

  • @mrfrosty8172 Oh yeah! Stuff like that is insane! I learned some chainwhip but that weapon itself isn't something you will find on the street. Rope and chain would be badass to learn!

  • @kyleismrsmiley me and my friend just made some practice sticks from pvc and some kind of foam pipe cover

it was fun and didnt hurt when fighting

until he hit me IN-BETWEEN the knuckles

    couldn't grip shit for a 1hr

  • @mrfrosty8172 oh its fun isnt it! :D Except I wrap my foamed pvc with electrical tape. Hurts more but hurts a LOT less than normal cane rattan escrima sticks.

Nerf Swords are awesome too! :D

  • @mrfrosty8172 I went to a seminar for the OKU (Okinawan Karate Do Union) once, and one instructor taught us to fight with a rope. How to block and trap with it. I was blown away with all you could to. It was insane

  • I think that escrima should be an olympic sport! What do you think?

  • do you know somebody whos teaching here in toronto im talking about doce pares?

  • thanks for telling me how to hold a stick

i'd probably of just stared at it on the floor if it wasnt for your great stick holding video

  • Hey. You watched it?

  • Good pointers.solid basics are important before moving up.

  • thats why when they strike with the stike even they dont have to angle their wrist, elbows and shoulder they do it coz in their mind they are training in applying the knife or sword. They use numbers for the moves actually and apply it in any different combos, depend on the situation.

  • bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla

deja de hablar cara de pepita!!!

  • If you do not have proper grip, when your opponent hits your stick with power, it flies out your hand to the floor, and injures you!

It happened many times at my Kickboxing club.

  • Proper grip is an important key in fighting with different weapons, Escrima Sticks are not baseball bats or clubs.

  • Origin is mindanao n sulu islands as well as all eastern archepelago, stick is used for practicing the keris and scabbard in swordfight.

a 2 keris is also used or 2 badung on both hands.

used against oldspain and portugal colonizers in close combat only.

youtube: mindanao war -unfortunately ongoing even now, neo-colonialist continue policy.

help us spread message of Peace vs Neo colonialist pilipino.

save our culture and tradition, we can teach you more. dont let them kill this lost art

  • My grandpa knows the art of ESCRIMA but he said it better not to teach the new generation for it is very DEADLY if it is use during conflicts. His idea is to let the police handle the problems, which is sad coz that old man was amazingly good in fighting. I remember when he was fighting against 8 bully and got their butt whoop with his cane. Yup its true that the stick represent the real sword.

  • He prolly had enough and seen something that we the new generation didnt understand yet. May be his experience in the Mindanao conflict which has been going on for about 500 yrs already has made him come up with that idea of forgetting the ART of ESCRIMA. i heard story that during the WAR to claim their wins they cut the EARs of their DEAD opponent and bring it to their base and count how many the killed. Escrima is very deadly with a SWORD.

  • actually the made necklaces of the ears, according my my martial arts instructor who trained in the Philippines

  • I think that, by definition, they are clubs.

  • I think it's important to train with the stick as a club, and also to do the best training we can for using a blade. You need to be aware in training if you're using a stick as a club or a stick as a blade simulator.

  • A club is a object you use to smash things. Since you quite simply can't slice people with an escrima stick you really only smash with them. You always use it as a club, because it is a club. Not a blade.

  • But the techniques are applied to all weapons and hand to hand combat. So their universal, Doce Pares FTW

  • they are and they aren't. You're going to vary things a tiny bit with a blade. Or rather, you can get away with things with a club that you can't with a blade - if you're doing a drill with a "blade" you need to be aware of the blade side, not so with a stick.

  • well, you might use it as a club or you might use it as a blade at some times. for example, you have a pair of sticks and want to do some practice for bladework, so you choose a side of the stick to treat as "sharp"

  • I never understand why people take so muck fucking time teaching grips. fuck pick it up and swing it a while you will figure it out very quick this makes me want to puke....

  • I like having uncrushed thumbs, personally. but YMMV.

  • my thumbs are uncrushed after 23 years of teaching and training as are my students yet I dont spent any time teaching grip.

  • Well, let's be clear here - above you say basically you favor a naturalistic approach, let people work out grips for themselves. Does this mean you LITERALLY never correct grips? Like if someone develops the truely terrible habit of exposing a thumb or index routinely? Because newb that I am in this particular art, I can pick off a thumb if it's offered. I could when horsing around, before I had any training.

  • If you are not smart enough to figure it out you will never learn. you will learn to hold the stick by training with it. diferent strikes different positions it is simple and no one needs to spen a 1/23 hour going on and on about it. that is my piont . teach what you want . while you are talking I am swinging the stick getting better and better you keep talking about how to hold it. I makes me laugh. and vomit at the same time.

  • yet he has a film and you don't

  • Dont I have 21 videos out right now on kali - silat and wing chun as well as JKD?

or wouldnt you know that.I have sold my videos world wide sir1 and I stand by my remarks. these karate people wha train in some Kali are destroying a fine art.

  • for someone that trains so much you are sure on here alot...jon...get over yourself..

  • i think "laughing and vomiting" is an over-reaction. And posting on the internet about how the guy you're arguing with is wrong and a loser because he's posting on the internet is staggeringly circular.

  • Nice Video!

Please check out Bahala na Multi-style (mislas contras) on you tube.

  • Since eskrima or arnis is more on weaponry, you can use any weapons like umbrella, whip, thin stick (patpat in Tagalog), nightstick from the cops or military police, etc.

  • thanks, I only know the staff, and it is heavier in the middle. 2 different weapons though. I am thinking of carving out my own weapons as a hobby, that Is why I asked

  • i have been studying the staff for 4 years. howm many years have you been studying?

  • is the stick weighted the same, all the way though?

  • Yes.

  • nice video. just don't keep saying "ok"

    OK ?

    lol

  • lol I know a guy who says "umm ah". I mean this dude was conducting a meeeting at work and in 2:30 min/sec he said that 43 TIMES!!!

    umm ah yeah

  • The new generations of Filipinos should consider Escrima a nationonal service especially if they live elsewhere around the world ...there's nothing wrong in a foreigner doing this, But there is something wrong when a Filipino knows nothing of this art at all!!! Martial arts are the language of Asia, n to honour your heritage is a duty. If a foreigner shows u up at ur own game it means you were lazy, the country would b fully conquered and Lapu Lapu would b turning in his grave;(

  • I dont get ur point.Pinoys (or any People) will do what they want. You make it sound like its mandatory for Pilipinos to learn FMA.Maybe if ur lineage demands it.And if we dont are we ignorant?Preserving our Culture can be done not just through FMA,But History,Dance,Music,Food,Etc..And with the world evolving, including weaponry,I dont blame our youth for being gamers, tuners, surfers, breakers, whatever.Training FMA is for the selected few, dont force it on anyone.

  • You dont get my point because> You are a Typical Westernized Pinoy who has difficulty meeting other pinoys who wish to preserve their country's heritage(You are, the status Quo that needs to be changed)..Filipinos love to quarrel and put down their own Filipinos when they present an ideal. All Asians regard Filipinos as less because Pinoys fail to set a standard,Pinoys fail to follow ideals or respect efforts made.THey rather colaborate with a richer nation than take pride in their own.

  • What is worst is that Pinoys have no shame in putting down their own pinoys in public even when the effort was made for them. That is the truth and you're an example.

  • Oh, and we are talking about escrima here...and the fact that it is an intregal part of Filipino history, dance, language, survival and that more and more Pinoys seem to lack any knowledge of it etc.dont fight your own out of ignorance. Rather agree with me that it would have been nice if you yourself knew somethin about ur original heritage and that you are proud to be a Filipino..If you are? that is.The problem is Filipinos have n identity crisis cos they rather b anything else but True Pinoy.

  • Thnx 4 d reply,i gess im nt a lonr.All im sying iz ths ",D,if u train arnis,itz ok,if u dnt,itz ok.Stop h8n da west.Pinoyz r making noize hre evrydae.Whrevr ur at,u gtta wrk hard to scceed.Hve prde,yet hmbly,ull lve lnger.Gtta go,sor 4m local stckfghtng tournament.Gnna lck my wounz.Peace-N-GodBless!"--KIT.

  • i do escrima in doha,qatar

  • my sticks twice as big

  • its not a competition...lol...

  • damn why isnt even philippines or anything as a tag, too many foreigners are doing this in my opinion without beeing a racist

  • hi sir, its true, sadly, less filipinos like us are practitioners & have PC's & access to the net. sad but true. what we are amaze is that sometimes FMA is sometimes more loved overseas than here... hope this changes.

  • why is a white guy teaching escrima?

  • Racisme... Why you are here judging on rase?

  • im filipino myself and i find it perfectly okay for someone with great knowledge to instruct escrima ... regardless if he is white or not.

  • @ir0xr0z Thank you for your insight. THere is no end to the study of martial arts. Everyone from every culture should study martial arts and benefit from it. I am an Indian from FIJI and I am studying Tang Doo Do, which happens to be a Korean Martial art. My Sabumnim(Instructor) is White.

  • Why is it a problem? Isn't it a good thing for a filipino martial art to spread around the world and bring an understanding and respect of filipino culture to other places?

  • dam straight!

  • @roboramma - It really is no Problem If the instructors whoever they are whether Black, white, brown, yellow or pink. As long as they Teach the True form of Kali or eskrima. because there are alot of "TAKEYOURDOUGH" martial arts schools out there that teaches nothing but wrong arts. No offense but its True!

  • can real blade be a substitute if you are good at sticks?

  • @taebuddy123 It actually was actually a sword fighting art. It became a stick fighting art just like Iaido turned into kendo. People in the Philippines still train the traditional as well as the modern art.

  • how on earth is that horrible

  • But it could be a stick as a substitute

  • the escrina is a weapon idiots its not just a stick its a weapon and u dont ust hit people with it u can use it for take downs and disarms and all such of things

  • pause then play at .41

  • LOL

  • Doce Pares represent...good job!

  • ur are an idiot

  • is this a tutorial for dummies how to hit a guy with a stick? :P lol kidding

  • i thought the same you just hit the other bloke it aint much more to say

  • now that'll be the day ... i'm not lettin another guy telling me how to grab my stick

    hehe

  • Don't talk shit on Ed Wedding, The guy Is an Absolute master of this art, THIS IS FOR BEGGINERS

  • I think gurojon has some point depending on the kind of kali, being a free flowing arts once your advance you could have any stance that you are comfortable with but with the grip you really need to have an allowance .

  • i agree with you.. but i think this video is meant for beginners thats why he is teaching it step by step... i think master gurojon here should jump to the expert level he's too good for this...

  • Pride of the Philippines! Can't you see the print on his shirt? it says cebu city philippines! that means this art is dead complex and f*cking effective! you guys should try it rather than blubbering you mouths!

  • this sucks there is no stance only movement no grip only flowing. every grip is constantly chamging.

  • huh? do you know this discipline? what do you mean by no grip? if you don't give the stick a good grip the stick will easily fall of while your hitting or blocking.. Crabhead!

  • why are you blocking? that is the last thing you should do. do you need to teach a monkey to grip a bannana? you will learn to grip by swining the stick and develope different grips by rane and tactics. yes i have been teaching longer that you have been alive young man. and I didnt call you names. I hope you learn from my comments. and others too!

  • you mean you don't block? thats funny... cause fighting without blocking is like not using your brain... i rest my case master gurojon.. i should watch kungfu panda tsk tsk.

  • just keep that frame of mind ignorant one. please do. and I wonder how many you will teach and thus lead astray. but there are many like you. 905 percent of kali people are on the same broken track. using simple reposte as the main stay. poor poor students. I will not bother to try try to help you again.

  • how well do you know that we are the ones who are in the wrong side huh? selfish fag! its an art! and art has its own individuality you should accept others opinion you are old enough to know this! and you claim that your a teacher shame on you! old fart!

  • Escrima is a complex, deadly art form. Get your head out of your asses and learn more about it.

  • good job

    this is for beginner

  • this is fuckin retarded just hit the guy!!!

  • AHAHAHAHAA thats so true!!
