I was a big fan of these guys but when I saw them live in 1990, opening for Siouxsie and the Banshees, they were quite rude and Miles Hunt actually was a dick to people in the audience. Sort of changed my view of them.
If I recall correctly, the seventh Doctor Who's anarchist companion Ace first brought this song to my attention in "The Highest Science." Later in "Human Nature" Bernice Summerfield is reminded of these lyrics as she mourns the death of her almost-lover Guy de Carnac (in "Sanctuary").
fiddly should not have joined.yes the tracks on hup he played on were good but by never loved elvis it was shite and then on construction it was so strained as they were trying to get back to guitar driven music and that fuckwit was screeching all over it.still love hup though..it showed so much promise
forgot how good they were, saw them at astonvilla lc i think the neds or poppies supported them god thats bloody 20years ago it was 89 god PWEI CLINT POPPIE where is he i think ill check out beaver patrol
Clint's gone into movie music. He's done the soundtrack to Requiem for a Dream (which was also used on a LotR trailer), among other films. A few ex-poppies formed VileEvils, pretty good stuff I saw them support Carter USM along with EMF last year. Awesome gig.
Miles Hunt was an arrogant fucker, that was half the appeal, great band, great songs.

Blast from the past. I once met and briefly chatted with Miles Hunt in a bar in Boulder, Colorado.
