Hi, I'm trying to do a straddle press against the wall but I'm having problems getting my legs off the ground and hips up. I tried to squeeze my core tight but it doesn't seem to be the correct way, any tips?
hmm, not sure, but there is one exercise that may help. stand in a straddle position and place your hands on the ground in front of u. lean forward a little and lift yourself up like u are starting a press. then try to lower yourself into a straddle L sit without letting your feet touch the ground.
when i get into my stretch (pike, split, etc.), i squeeze the muscles i want to stretch for about 20sec, then i relax my muscles and go further into the stretch and hold for 20sec. i like to do a few repetitions of this. i never sit in stretches for long periods of time or stretch to the point of intense pain. i stretch about twice a week, but that is just to maintain the flexibility i already have. only after stretching everyday over a period of months do i see notable gains in flexibility.
my dream position is straight legged planche. very good form... everything is so tight! (were you sagging in your shoulders?) im in gymnastics, but i also help the little kids with lower level skills, and if i could get them to keep everything as tight as you did, we'd be goin' places.
It's a tough trick. Holding the "L" is probably the hardest bit if you're a fairly big guy (by sport standards & age, anyway--5-9 & 185 is big for gym.) You need a lot of strength in your trapezius, rhomboid & triceps muscles, also abs, lower back & chest.
me too i used to be able to do it fine but after a while i stopped and now i can't do it again. i either arch over when i get to the top or i try to lift my heels up first
I cant lift my legs up in the air, i really dont know how to do it! i can get back from handstand to a straddle l, but i just cant get up:S how do you do that?
you probably need a little more strength and you have to compress your body together, meaning when you start the press, your legs should be as close to your chest as possible. by doing that you can keep your weight compact and close to your center of mass so you don't have to do much work. =)
oh ok.. thats a great tip.. i will try that as soon as i can. I think im being so busy with the lifting part that my legs aren't close at all haha.thanks:)

my arms are short, is it possible for me to do this?

yeah i think so, you may just have to develop greater straddle flexibility and more hip strength than someone with longer arms
