The initial domestication process, tens of thousands of years ago, was animal cruelty and should not have been done. That said, these animals are domesticated now and rather enjoy their lives with their human companions. There is no intentional domestication process for today's exotic animals. They are owned at random and with the sole purpose of pleasing the oblivious owner.
