  • I found a site that has the best diamond hole saws for all tile and stone w w w tile tool net. Save a lot of money to.....

  • Thanks very much, that's just the advice I was looking for. I'll have a go on a few spare tiles before I attack the wall. Cheers.

    You are welcome.

    Thanks for the comment ;-)

  • @lenwattersonpianos What would happen if I used an impact drill instead of a conventional drill?

  • @keepercoach

    The tile would probably break

  • What accent is this? Oldham?

  • @GanEdenAustralia

    Not far away from Oldham.

    Darwen, Lancashire

  • @ultimatehandyman Wasn't too far off. Know Darwen and Blackburn failry well. Salford lad myself downunder lol

  • @GanEdenAustralia

Much better weather where you are LOL.

    Thanks for the comments!

  • @ultimatehandyman nar winter here and 12degrees lol gets very hot in summer however

  • @GanEdenAustralia

Didn't realise it went that cool there!

At least the snakes will be dosile in that kind of temp ;-)

  • @ultimatehandyman True although I'm yet to see a snake...not! lol Can get to -1 or -2 here in the outback.

  • Is the procedure the same for an installed tile?

I am thinking about getting a fixed shower rod and keep reading everywhere to be very careful and use water so that the tile doesn't over heat and/or crack. Please let me know! Thanks in advance everyone!

  • @Townie5lax

Ceramic tile is pretty soft and can easily be drilled. If the tiles are porcelain you will need a different drill bit and water to cool the bit. Porcelain is much harder than ceramic. this is the porcelain drilling video

  • What a pita. Took me 10 min to drill one hole with a glass/tile bit. Probably ceramic or something. I HATE drilling through tile. Always a good way to piss me off. I only keep the drill at about 1000rpm. I don't got wide open w it and the darn bits still don't last more than 5 minutes. BACK to homeless Depot AGAIN!! :-{

  • @35057

Are you sure the tile is not porcelain?

If it is porcelain they are much tougher than ceramic tiles.

I have done a video on drilling porcelain with a diamond coated holesaw.

  • @ultimatehandyman Not sure what it was. I'm not TOO familiar with this stuff. I picked up a diamond bit and it went through MUCH easier! Thanks for the video help!

  • @35057

No problem, glad you got it sorted in the end.

    Thanks for the comment!

  • EXCELLENT, VERY CLEAR INTRUCTIONS1

  • Since hammer action shouldn't be used, could I get away with using a 14.4V drill driver for this job or is it time for me to upgrade?

  • @ant1978dyer

A 14.4 drill should easily do it. I have a 12v drill that is perfectly good at drilling tiles, walls and screwing in screws etc.

  • Thanks for the vid, im going to have to do this tonight and im hopeless on the tools.

  • @gbangerau

    You are welcome.

Take your time and don't press on too hard and you should be fine!

  • Looked like 1-0 to the tile there against the tile bit! Seemed to shred that point! although it did go through

  • @ zakzak000

    Thanks for the comment zak.

It was just a bit of the chrome plating that came detached from the drill bit. It can still be used again no problem!
