This is one of my own people...Oglala Lakota Sioux Tribe!!!!....if i die today....the pride of watchin this video willl live in my heart....forever....
It's crazy how much contact there was in that race, especially those last couple of laps! You just don't see that these days!! Very inspirational video. Mills is a great champion but also a great human being.
incredible video. If you're a fan of Billy Mills or just running in general check out "Running Brave". pretty good movie. especially since its from '83
I remembered that movie from when I was a kid, but I never saw it from start to finish so I went to Blockbuster and got it. It was a great film, but the real footage is even better.
Totally agree with you. The determination and inspiration of billy mills in this video is just amazing. This has got to be the most inspired video on youtube. Makes me want to throw on my running shoes and go. Glad you checked out the movie though! happy trails bro : )
Ha Yes!! Probably my favorite movie of all-time. Pretty much anything by the coen brothers is pure gold (fargo, no country for old men, etc.) You're the first to pick up on that! What movie (s) do you like?
I figured the name was a derivative of "Little Lebowski Urban Achiever". One of the coolest youtube handles I've seen yet. Well played. TBL is definitely in my top 10 (maybe even 5). I pretty much only watch comedies. Anything with Will Ferrell, Vince Vaughn, Ben Stiller etc. I also love standup. I think laughter is very important in life. Oh and sports, too. I only watch ESPN and Comedy Central. :-)
"Must believe, must believe, I can win, I can win, I won, I won...... LOOK AT MILLS! LOOK AT MILLS!!" I don't believe any man who ever lived made his cherished dream come true more powerfully than Billy Mills did here. He is an inspiration for the ages, especially for anyone who ever dared to believe in himself or herself. As I write these words, I'm 60 years old. And Billy Mills is still one of my all-time cherished heroes and life-long guiding lights. His greatness to me remains undimmed.
I still remember the day I met him...I was 7 years old and probably the only thing I remember from when I was 7...simply put this man is unforgetable..He is forever my hero..
@whaaaaateverful: Agreed! His stride lengthens in a way that all theorists of running stride would call ill-advised. Watch it again and again and it remains magical. It's as though he willed himself to fly. It's quite surreal. It's "crushing," I imagine, to the two guys he crushed. But from his own perspective--and ours, if we allow it--it's pure magic: light as a feather, supreme effort as pure realization. I'm waxing Platonic because that's what I'm seeing: pure Will in action.
the tingling sensation signifies you KNEW,just KNEW that you're gonna win, finish the race ahead of everyone else,no matter what distance in between you have to cover up..you can feel it and that no one,not even the ones in front of you can reach the tape first except you.the sudden feeling that you can outpace anybody at the last moment.i experienced it once..only happens in long distance running..
@mactaylorable: Or consider that the tingling sensation along his forearm is the forerunner of a heart attack. I think he finished just barely the live side of a heart attack.
I have to admit I had some prejudice feelings in the past about natives, but Billy Mills' story has really changed my perspective. I had no idea, until recently, who mills was or that he was the only American to win this event. He is proof that any individual can accomplish anything if they put their mind to it and dedicate themselves. I hope more people can be inspired by his story as well.
Most satisying and exciting track and field moment I have ever seen...and such a wonderful person. His insights are just as wonderful as the footage...and the narration by Louis Gossett Jr. is so perfect.
this was just like me in the jr. high confrence. there was 200meters to go in the race and i was in third and all of the sudden i fet like i had a huge amount of energy and i went into the fastest sprint i ever did and i gained on the guy in second and then passed the guy in first with 100m to go and i just kept goin and at the end i just collapsed. it was by far the gratest moment in my life. i ran a 4:46 mile that day.
A few years ago I got to meet and speak with Billy Mills in person! and THEN his friend 'Kip Keino' walked up!! WOW! I can't believe this, I was thinking, I'm here with Billy Mills and Kip Keino!
