Lol :) that Fuji camera was stolen two years ago in Equador :) now I have A Panasonic luminex with much better sound--check out some more recent youtubes :)
This version of Sally Ann is recorded on my cd, Vintage Banjo, and the recording quality is very superior to this informal Youtube. Also--there is a simple tab to it in my Vintage Banjo tab book. They are both available on my website and make a great Christmas gift for a banjo buddy--or even yourself :)

ps--and yes--this track is available on itunes too :)
In a world becoming ever smaller, it is not unusual to see music styles cross borders and be adapted by other cultures. But there are few sounds more uniquely American than that of a banjo and the way that this woman plays it. When you close your eyes and hear her sweet music, there is only one region of the world you think of.
Your playing and sound are in league with that of Copeland, Gershwin and Bernstein. Sweet picking, ma'am. Thanks for the music.
Very pretty version of a great old song. I especially like how you play the B-part. Do you also play Sally Johnson or Sally Ann Johnson -- it seems to be a different tune? 5 stars.
I don't find the sound quality of this video too bad at all; I'm just so happy to hear such a stunning version of this tune that I'll take what I can get!
I'm playing this version this morning on a beautiful new Hohner banjo; I'm not sure of the model number but it's the one with the black rim, fancy pearl-inlaid headstock and pretty pearloid on the fingerboard. My setup is a Fiberskin head & a medium Grover bridge: WOW! Terrific plunk & tons of volume.
Absolutely SUPERB playing, Mary....and isn't that RK 036 just just incredible incredible?!? RK has come a long way in a short time with the quality of their banjos.
SAY, MARY: what kind of bridge do you have on that little gem?
Had to stop everything this morning and learn your version, which is the smoothest & prettiest I've ever heard. Lovely tuning!
I've been itchin' for (yet) another banjo and I think this beauty is gonna be The One. Mary's got her's set up to perfection!
This is the best tune I've ever heard, and the way you play is unbelievable! I'm gonna learn clawhammer style and won't sleep till I can play it as well as you. Regards, Pete
I like this a bunch. I've never seen anyone playing exactly this technique. Is it something you learned or is it just your own thing? (I'm not a banjo player so this may be a stupid question.) Great playing.
Of course it does--it was recorded on a tiny digital camera with a built in mic. My MP3 was recorded in a good studio with a high quality mic. I probably really should not have put this up--but it was such a pretty day on the river--I thought it would be fun to share. :)
Yes--know what you mean. When my oldest son found out that I recorded that on a digital camera--he wanted to strangle me. Digital cameras were never intended to record music. :) I was going to take it down, but the folks at Recording King really liked it and now it is on my artist page there--so I will have do make a better video to replace it before I can take it down. :)
Well, considering what kind of noise one has to crawl through in the old archive recordings - this just fits right in perfectly. :D

Have you got the tab for this arrangement? I'd love to get a copy so I can learn it - I'm not good enough to piece it together from the recording!

I love the way you play this song, Mary, and have heard it in an mp3 that sounds great. The sound quality on this video sounds pretty messed up.

Yeah, it's fun to see you play it...it was just a bit of a shame to hear the sound, when I knew how wonderful it really sounded.
