It's unlikely that this was actually meant for kids - most cartoons back then were actually meant for adults - and I'm guessing the evil snowman is supposed to represent something else.

Older cartoons are very fascinating. Back then, cartoons were not necessarily for just children or anybody--they were treated like true works of self-expression, hence all the banned shit. Who knows, maybe the creator always thought snowmen were creepy, was expressing how our ideas of people can betray us, or just like the someone else said, he's the Abominable Snowman. Interesting

Okay, history lesson time.

This cartoon came out in 1932 - cartoons had become a lot more sophisticated by 1940. Think Pinocchio, the first Bugs Bunny and Tom & Jerry cartoons.

Rock & Roll's roots go back a long way, but really started to gel in the late 1940s, and was maybe fully defined by 1951 ("Rocket 88") and got mainstream by 1955. Metal came much later, say, 1968.
