Yes sir, love this song...you dog you, Robert...basically telling the woman to get over it my main squeeze is coming home, you never had a chance, just a fling...stop crying this is hard for me too...lol...what a player...
You know, if you listen to the lyrics, the guy is kind of a creep. It's about a guy whose wife is coming back and he has to tell his side action that she has to take a hike.
This was actually a really catchy tune back in the day especially the friends who where haveing a break up OMG it was so funny i remember it well its so differcult to belive that all these years have gone by but you got to admitt the 70s and 80s where the best time ever for music and bands and shows,am so happy to have had them times and days cause these days SUCK big time for music and pple. Peace to the new generation cause you guys really need it!
This was a time when most kids would hear these type of songs after school during TV advertisements for record compilations. It was a great time to be alive back then.
How many super hits were there in 1979?? 200!!! Fuck I wish I had a time machine. Music sucks now. No talent anymore just over marketed attitude. You kids missed out. Sorry.
@areubaked My question is this: Where is he now? It's like he had this #1 on The Billboard Pop Charts in 1979, and then POOF, he was gone. I'm interested into what happened there.
@areubaked I'm afraid I am responsible for Roberts high pitched voice. We were sophomore classmates in high school. After going steady for 8 months, he decided to dump me for my best friend Lucille. He had the nerve to ask for his lettermen's jacket back, I knew he was going to give it to Lucille. So when he came closer, I kicked him as hard as I could between the legs. Well the rest was history. We're still good friends, although I'm married to a wonderful man(his brother).
this song was the frist song that my wife and i would dance to when we frist started dateing. witch was back in 1979 .after a few drinks my eyes would look sad.so she would look at me when we were danceing and call me sad eyes.been married to her for 28 years and i love her today as if it was or frist date.
love this song so much I remember when my sister and I went to her boyfriend house and his friend would be there too when this song would come we would always sing it I had a bad crush on him and my heart still things about him
this song used to depress the hell out of me back then . I associate it with going to school on rainy mornings , not because of any girl , maybe because i used to hate school and it came on the radio at a certain time like clockwork . i like it a lot now .
Back inin those Days the singers like Robert John wasn't singing off key or getting Rich off on song that didn't sound llike SHIT!!! 1979 WAS AN AWSOME YEAR FOR MUSICAL ARTIS LIKE ROBERT JOHN AND OTHER ARTIS!!!
The falsetto is amazing! I've always wanted to know what woman sang that part, but from my cursory research, it appears Robert John sang it. Absolutely amazing.
After all these years, I finally know what this dude looks like. Used to think that it was a woman... such a high voice. But I love this song to death. It's sooooo delicious to listen to.
I have heard countless of black singers and white singers do falstto singing but never heard a man who sing falsettao sound exactly like a female. falsetto from most males has a total different sound then a women singing ...It can be a high voice , but never quite female sounding .
@MRJACKSON19581 Falsetto was popular for black male groups in the '50s and '60, but I NEVER mistook a man singing falsetto for a woman ... 'til now. I love this song, and I love Robert John's falsetto; and I don't mean to sound insulting, but he sounds exactly like a woman.
@blakwriter NOPE HE DO NOT SOUND LIKE A WOMEN.. HE SOUNDS LIKE A MAN WITH A TENOR THATS A TOTAL DFIFERENT SOUND .. GO LISTEN TO THE R*B Group SPECIAL DELEVERY
They have a song called "I DESTROYED YOUR LOVE..I was driving around in the car the other day playing the song My white friends said "who's the women singing ? We al said -Thats not a guy. It doesnt sound like a women -Its a man with a high soft tenor .We laughed .This itsnt racial .But most black can tell a guy doing falsetto.
I remember when this song came out, the girl I was dating was my first love, her name was actually "Angel" . CY Fair TX She had a brand-new 1979 Camero Berlinetta I believe...........wow I was 15 I think
@tomcardello So What !!!!!! Great Song By A talented Artist Rather Watch great Old tunes Lip syn Or Not He Still Wrote ,Sang & Recorded It , & Its Original Not Like The Shiiiiiiiiiiiite Churned Out Today I Doubt We Will Be Memorising In 30 yrs Time Bout The Garbage Mostly Served Up Today :D

@BerlinFan82 yes "Video did kill the radio star". Whether you like this song or not, this man could sing his ass off. I was born in 73, but I grew up listening to 70's music and I have a great memory. I'm glad we have utube, because I have a lot of my favorites. The earliest recollection I have of music was Boston's More Than A Feeling. My dad's favorite song was Keep on Rockin Me Baby.
Young love of the 70's will forever touch the hearts of many of us old rockers. It was at times used as a game and hurting one to get to another was at times fun. 40 years later one wishes they could find some of those people and say I'm sorry. Not to start a new fire or relationship but just to say I'm sorry. I have been on both ends of those sad eyes. Caused them and had them and neither was fun. BUT WHAT A GREAT MUSIC ERA AND SUPER SONG. thanks for the memories..........
