  • where is cable tv available?

  • Interesting.....now can you show me how to hack tv and get it for free?

  • How does the television take the electrical signals traveling across the wires and transform that into the images on your television?

  • great explanation on cable tv. Does services like dish network or other satellite services and packages work similar?

  • You showed a "tap" not an "amplifier".

  • Why do people pay for commercial television? It's ridiculous! We grew up in the '50's, '60's, & '70's without paying for television because ADVERTISERS pay to advertise so consumers would watch and buy their products. When cable TV first came about the idea was there would be no commercials. Slowly everything changed and people now pay to watch advertisements! INSANE! People give away all of their power mindlessly. Stop paying to watch TV and see how fast it becomes free again.

  • There should only be 3 cable companies nationwide. We lessen the balogny production. This organizes all channels. In order for that to happen, we need to shut down 100+ Million Dollar enterprises by stop purchasing.

  • It comes through cables thats why the service is called cable service.. Lol are we really this dumb as a civilization? Or please tell me this video is for elementary schools or something

  • Cable TV is great but many country don't support it. Online internet TV for country that don't have satellite or cable.

  • 34 people dont have cable

  • what is a mega hertz channel?????? c'mon - if you are going to dumb it down go all the way! by the way, asphalt is NOT a disease. just thought i would let you know. what is a mega hertz channel? how does it hurt? WTF?!?!?!?!?! REMEMBER MOST PEOPLE OUT HERE HAVE THE IQ OF A WATERMELON. I said "MOST".....

  • and for you people that mention fios? remember that half of the fios systems out there are not 100% fiber. once you go copper to your house the benefits of fiber dwindle quickly... cut out the middle man - reach for the sky - satellite. at least you have two to choose from!

  • so what we learn here is that the cable companies get their programming from satellites.... hmmm... why not subscribe to satellite? good enough for the cable company, good enough for me! and then you don't have to worry about NODES being overloaded during peak times because the cable company jams everything down one piece of copper. most cable systems can't deliver more than 1080i but you can get 1080p off satellite.... that damn copper wire just can't handle it. ....

  • while the video is on 0:00 hold the left arrow key and then the up arrow key and u can play snake game on the clip WTF

  • @killdeth1 how the fuck did you find this out!?

  • @killdeth1 Holy crap.....

  • fast and detailed

  • SCREW YOUR COMMERCIALS.

  • Has anybody ever felt so distant from the rest of everybody by using a Different Type of Box TV service? Back then we all had the same cable service and watched the same shows at the same time.

  • 01110101 - 01000010 - 01000001 - 01110010, 01000101, 01110100,

  • @amcabbott

    uBArETAbD ???????

  • wow...im happy for the people who switched on over to antennas....good job people! stick it to tha man(cable) lawl

  • this is laughable.

  • Cut The Cable Baby!!!!!

  • exactly.. this is how you would describe it to a 5 year old kid

  • exactly this is how you would describe it to a 5 year old kid

  • no chance..im watching this on you-tube lol

  • '

how come NO free cable tv

  • chances are im watching this program on a youtube channel for your tv show.

  • 11101011010101010100011101101010101010110101011010101010110101110101010110101001010101011111110101111011010110101011011010101010101101010101011010110101001010101010101 HAHA Decode This!

  • @SmartMedia244

    15422791

  • I just us an antena and still get more junk than I need. The picture is very clear for most channels.

  • Satellite more expensive than cable...

  • that is a tap what a dumb ass.

  • who cares if its satellite tv, cable tv or IPTV..as long as i get my channels without any problems, i'm fine with it :)

  • Satellite TV is so much better than cable.

  • You guys do know these videos are made just for fun and aren't made to be correct. They're made to invoke retarded responses from people like yourselves.

  • How does cable work? I still don't know.

  • Cable is the best I get RoadRunner Phone Service and Premium Cable Service for 4 HDTVs and 1 dvr for only $170.00 a month

  • LOL 200 channels.. not here on long island

  • its all about satellite tv!!!!!!! why would anybody get cable?

  • @cvelis549 because it does not go out when yo need it the most i can watch tv 24/7 thorogh sleet snow thunder storm sunny day you name i can watch in it but i don't know about you

  • now they actualy have a radio signal go through a heavily insulated wire thats how attenas work it gets the signal then goes thru the wire then to your tv you are dumb guys

  • LOL, that's a tap at :46, not an amp. At :30, the 200 channels are not initially transmitted on coax. At the head end (where the satellites are), RF is converted to light and it's sent out on fiber optic cable to a node, where it's reconverted back to RF again. From there, RF travels into neighborhoods via coaxial cable. It is there that signal is amplified. This network is called an "HFC" network (Hybrid Fiber Coax). This video is based on 1980's technology and 300 MHz systems. Nice try though

  • All Telco Companies use Fiber Optic wiring to the NODE. From there they run Copper Wiring. This is one part of information this video is missing. No way they run Copper from just the Satellites. Fios is the only company that runs fiber to the prem and you have unlimited streams. AT&T does FTTP in the midwest to some people, but are limited to 2HD streams.

  • i wish i had 200 channels

  • @720moorhsum

i wish i didnt have 200 channels, most of them suck, trust me xD

  • so thats why my cable doesnt work somtimes because theres a storm in the farm

  • My bill keept going up and up its now at 600 for cable when they told me it woud be under 73 tottal its a tottal rip off when you can get FTA and skip the middle man cable company

  • I don't believe you will find any cable provider that is able to produce 200 6MHz channels. Most service providers are able to get a max of 750MHz to 800MHz due to quality of plant issues and older amplifiers. Newer amplifiers are hitting the >1GHz range but I haven't heard of any providers utilizing the GHz range.

  • lol i watched tv and it went out when this came on! no lie!!

  • hey brain your a wanker

  • WOW YOU ARE A GENIUS... GET OUT of here!!!!

  • how it works is the cable companies overcharge for their mediocre service and local stations are dying and the consumer gets fleeced in the process.

  • @imyourhustler

But, I gotta keep up with the Kardashians, man!

  • @imyourhustler thats y i dropped my cable.its just to expensive at least in my eyes.its like 80 bucks a month then the internet bill..i dont really watch tv that much so it doesnt matter and i can watch stuff online..if cable was like 40 bucks i would have no problem paying that but 80 is just to much for what you get,so many people i know feel the same way that if it was around 40 they would have it weather they watch it or not but oh well they want to charge alot then they will keep loosing

  • Then how come I'm picking up all this cable tv in my head?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

  • Uh..people....that made this video are showing the wrong picture here... They show a "tap" when they are saying that it is an Amplifier!

PS. I am a Technical Trainer for a Cable company... ;-)

  • Only have Satellite TV in my country :(

  • Satellite sucks. It goes out during thunderstorms.

  • Yep. to bad we dont have other services

  • where do you live?

  • Malaysia

  • How does THIS work?

My internet radio show out of csulb (TPSradio) used to be broadcast on LBCTelevision (cable access TV channel 65 here in Long Beach and Signal Hill, CA). The visual was the cable access channel's community calendar (text and graphics).

Our channel has been dark since '09 and should restart soon! With the new digital switch, WILL internet radio STILL be able to be broadcast this way?

All I know is that the setup entails a computer at each location: csulb+charter

  • check out some cable splicing I found!!!!

  • yeah. really.

  • Fiber works in a similar manner, they leave the "Antenna Farm" (Headend) via Fiber, hit a box called a node, that transforms it from Fiber to Coax, and then the coax hits the house. That way, the signal can be extended further without amps. This is a Fiber to the Node layout. Pretty reliable and powerful system too.

  • fiber-optics is epic ,too bad the cabet or phone company did not offer it on the east end of long island

  • Your stupid

  • i think this is too simplified explanation of how cablesystem works. there are few thing which cant be tell in one minute

  • wish this guy would tell us how to use a hd pvr that is turned off by the cable company - help !!

  • aint that fiber optic cable tho?

  • we're not watching tv its on THE INTORNET

  • umm internet is what you mean

  • holy shit, the most annoying tune played through the whole video

  • nothing happened :p

  • How pornsites work?

  • and thats how cable companies loose quality in there services, when you convert the signal to mpeg it lost quality.

  • I don't know of any cable co that convert their signal into mpeg just AT&T.m mpeg encoding is different from a mpeg video on the PC, mpeg encoding is a process that makes it so they can run up to 10 digital channels on One FM frequency 10 to1. then they can convert that to QAM for better HD services, 256 QAM is the newer standard. and that is the signal that the cable box picks up. it also makes it impossable for someone to steal pay service such as HBO etc.

  • Hmm, I thought that mpeg was a better looking and sounding signal than analog?

  • Not all cable companies transfer to mpeg, and it is superior to satellite in my opinion.

  • @Hallofhealing I am happy that not all do. I am trying to find a quality analogue TV source since the digital transition. I can not STAND the way MPEG looks on my TV screen. Give me back the old pleasant analog blur that I am used to. I hate looking at pixels when watching broadcast TV.

  • Lots of old people talked about how life was back in the day. Cable had only 60 channels. We all had the same TV. Home Schooling. Gasoline was .75 cents. Cracker Jack Box were .25 cents. Arcades were 15 cents. I personally like things organized. Easier to Manage and Keep Track. When things are regulated so that everybody in the neighboring counties have the same channels, things get more fun.

  • What is Analogue?

  • wha?

  • Does anyone know if digital cable comes from the telco side or threw satelite? On demand would be ran off the server right?

  • Comes from satellite like the video says, then it's converted from light to RF. On demand is a service done by servers over a regional area.

  • Cable TV fucks you in the ass, THAT'S how it works!

  • Man I need a splicedge some end'zzz and a "T"

  • Don't get cable its slow, instead you could get FiberOptic wayyy faster than cable more HD more chanels faster Internet!!!

  • fiber optics is a little to expersive lol but yeah i agree with u fiberoptics does makle alot of difference especially on internet speed ^^

  • coooooooool O_O

  • interesting

  • i heard that you can pay like $500-$1000 and then you get like 100+ channels. and you only need to pay once. is it true and is it illegal?

  • You could, but be careful:cablecos are getting tough on this sort of illegal reception and you could end up with fines/prison if caught, it's not worth the risk.

  • definitly a tap...

  • Funny they say amplifiers and they show a "tap" knucklehead.

  • THEY ARE RETARDED

  • they really shouldve consulted someone who knew something about cable tv, instead of calling a tap an amplifier. I laugh at the animation of the satellite signal coming down, through a pipe, into a spinning crystal."THE MAGIC POWER CRYSTAL?" seriously...

  • at least someone else knew that the tap was not an amplifier, i mean, how ignorant can you be to put something on here, and not know what your talking about

  • an amplifier is a big gray box that looks like a power supply and some of them hum right?

  • That's what stuck out to me too.. that is NOT an AMP DAMN IT!!! haha

  • If cable comes from a satellite, what's the point of getting it?

  • Some areas don't allow satellite dishes so if it's available then cable offers a next best alternative;but they don't always offer everything that's carried on satellite and cablechannel lineups can also vary by cable area and operator.

  • Well you could just get satellite but cable company's have lots of satellite farms so that if one is blocked by the weather then they can get the channel at another location. I have had satellite for years and you do lose your signal every once an a while during storms.

  • You can increase your chances of getting a good signal by using a larger dish;satellites operate with a footprint,at the centre small dish antennae of at least

60cm should be used to secure good reception but as you get towards the edge of the 52dBW contour signal strengths drop off then you will need an 80cm dish and so on and so on until you get to the edge of the satellite's footprint when large dishes become necessary at least 120cm diameter(1.5m is best to allow for signal dropoff).

  • @:46, not an amp, it's a tap and actually brings down the signal not boost it

  • he seems drunk

  • I used to have cable service (through Cablevision's local Argentina offices, established in 1981) but then I switched to digital TV with DirecTV (trademarked as DIRECTV in all caps)... now I'm on my way back to cable with TeleCentro (a cable company near my home in San Justo, Buenos Aires, Argentina.) It contains 80 channels and I'm getting it along with Telecentro's Internet service. The installation team is to call next Tuesday.

  • why the fuck are you telling people this, like we really fucking care!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • +1. How are we meant to react to that? Bravo?

  • Cool video, but how do you actually get local channels? That's one facet of Cable TV that I'd like to know more about.

  • yes that is an 8 port tap,and that fitting looks old and needs to be replaced,it was a thomas & betts fitting..great choice unlike most satellite installers choose..an amplifier can be aerial or in a ped. but a ped does not prove that there is an amplifier.just proves that area had underground cabling.the video he took of the 21 value tap was NOT a ped with an amplifier in it.if that tap was next to an amplifier, the value of the tap would be a lot lower..the tap was a long way from an amplifier

  • i just got cable how to i play my games now

  • CATV operates dish antennae,tv/radio aerials, and pay-tv decoders at a central point.Satellite channels received are relayed to receivers via cables and for subscription channels decoders authorised by the satellite pay-tv operator(s),stereo soundtracks received on those channels are either put on FM stereo frequencies or encoded in NICAM. Terrestrial channels are received on aerials and put onto cable frequencies, while radio stations received on FM are relayed to subscribers.

  • what you showed at 0:45 isn't an amplifier.

  • What is it?

  • its just a splitter (in french called a PMD) for multiple directional plug. they are designed to let pass only 13 dB per home. this one here is a 21 dB loss with 8 outlets. means the signal before the splitter is 13+21= 34dB at channel 3

  • True, it's an 8 port tap. Makes you question the programs's credibility.

  • Judging by the rating on the 8 port tap of 21 and the large metal backing of the enclosure its in, along with the fact they showed before entering the neighborhood back yard a large amp ped... Theres a good chance of an amp directly attached to the tap.

  • sorry man, this is what i do, and thats not an amp..the amp would be in the green box you see at 0:36...and if you had an amp attached to this tap, the tap would be 29, and not 21

  • Is that a fact? Fine. I'll take a photograph of several LEs inside those little green boxes with tap values of 21. This is what *I* have done for 15 years now.

  • sorry for not understanding "LEs" since i speak french better, but no matter how long youve worked in telecom, what you see at 0:46 isnt an amp...and the green boxes just replace the telephone posts in neighbourhoods that dont want any, and the cables are underground

  • We usually start out with 23 value tap first out of the amp.

  • its not a farm, its c alled a Headend

  • yah i was like farm? Thay raise cows? hhahahahhah

  • cool i learnt a new lesson

  • Make sure the Cable guy has a Good Union!

  • nope, you're wrong.. i'm watching on youtube..

  • yeah, what's with that? People can't learn there's new media around?

  • HE HE! :)

  • lol i was gonna say he same thing
