THE 1ST TIROS SATELLITE LAUNCHED, WILL BE 50 YEARS OLD ON APRIL 1, 2010. Between April 1, 1960 and September 4, 1962 there was some 45 of them up in the sky, 40 of them launched by the USA.

I'd like it explained how uniting civilian and military purposes into one satellite can possibly be a good idea (other than to save money).
