Those pigs are a bunch of wimps. Here in Illinois, law abiding citizens can't even carry brass knuckles, yet it takes more than four pigs with weapons to subdue one man. If I see someone attack someone else, Illinois wants me to just pretend I don't see anything. If I forget my cell phone, the victim is SOL.
those officers were completely justified in every aspect of that encounter. i watched the news too, that guy ended up dying because he had cocaine and pcp in his system. if he could have got his hands on one of those guns then he would have killed both of those officers. when you've been faced with a life and death situation then you can pipe up. however, you don't get too many of those situations in your mom's basement.
Iam a patrolman and in my opinion they were just a bit excessive with those batons. I counted 2 strikes above the shoulders which is a real no no. Strikes to the head and neck area can be lethal. A simple taser jolt (just one now ok guys ) would have dropped him without risking further harm to him or the officers.

The question is simple - when you're told you're under arrest and to put your arms behind your back there is no self defense - when I arrest you you cant fight back and claim you're defending yourself. You're being placed under arrest, you're not allowed to fight that. When you have a 350 pound man on drugs that stop the pain sensors in your body fighting 200 pound cops, sometimes force is neccesary to subdue the threat. It is not brutality. And the man did have a heart attack because his heart could not handle how fast the coke was making his heart pump.

says 2003, you would think most Police forces had Tasers in use by this time. Knowing that this guy died from this struggle with the police makes me think he would have probably been one of those likely to die from a Taser shot as well. If it had been a one on one confrontation, one of those cops would have died.

Baton strikes to the head are not a no-no as you put it. It is situation dependant.
One taser hit cannot be mandated. Occasionally it takes multiple hits to force compliance.
