Really unique finale. I like how they took down Adam in the second to last ep, and used "Restless" to tie up Season 4 in a more meditative way and set us up for some future developments. Clearly some were foreshadowing ("Be back before Dawn"; Joyce trapped behind the wall with mice like the mice Tara experienced when Glory took her mind; and ultimately, Buffy's rejection of slayer law ("I walk, I talk, I shop, I sneeze", is her insistence on self-definition- a major theme in "Chosen"). SO GOOD!
hey!!! i luv that!! ever since i watched that episode i have been trying to find that music....it so cool and haunting...where can i find the buffy score cd?
yeah id agree with that also, i think its about her figuring out who she is and that she can be both the slayer and buffy at the same time and can escape neither. in the gift she realises that her strength and power makes her who she is and it is a part of her she can accept and when she jumps off the tower to save dawn i think she realises that she is at peace with who she is and figures out that she shouldnt be afraid of her power xx
¿¿somebody could explain me the meaning of buffy putting mud in the face, or sand, whatever?? ¿what is the meaning of all these dreams they have, that Buffy had in "restless"??
i think the mud in the face is trying to show that when buffys afraid of the monsters coming slowly toward her, she puts the mud on her face to hide, but instead of hiding she becomes the thing inside of herself (the primitive) as mud on the face is a very primitive thing people used to do and is trying to show that no matter how much she tries to deny it, theres something inside of her which is wild and instinctual and that she cant hide from her true self or the primitive power within herself.
immediately after she puts on the mud she finds herself in the desert where she is confronted by the primitive first slayer.
the mud is a way of her finding her true self and the rejection of the primitive at the end of the episode shows she is not ready to accept that part of herself yet, until season five episode the gift where she finally realises the truth to her power.
thanks for the answer,I also think that the mud in her face could mean that she is the weapon, because in that scene when she opens the bag saying that she has weapons, she find the mud,and she put it in her face, maybe that means she is the weapon, but your answer is better. and what is the truth to her power,in "the gift", ?? maybe , that her power is about saving, not killing????
@ricardo161 on the commentary they say that the first slayer is pretty much trying to tell buffy (and her friends) through dreams, that the slayer cant have friends and the slayer has to be alone and "primal" like a lone worrior type, but when buffy realises what's happening, she also realises that "no, im gunna have friends and that's what makes me different" pretty much... the man with the cheese was just there to freak poeple out.
thanks for commenting! yeah i agree i think its a really brilliant episode, and i also really love the music, i think it fits in with what there trying to say really well! x
I wear the cheese. It does not wear me.

I LOVED Restless. The fight scene amazes me where Buffy manages to keep her dress down during it!

I love the music in this episode.
It's got a 'Dead Can Dance' feel or similar to the music used in Heroes.
