  • Yeah I am not all that Computer Knowledgable But i agree with ya on the runtime it is Completely Bull (10 min's PFFFT) If i had a Site like Youtube that oneday i hope to make (i wanna go to College for Web and Game Design) MY LIMIT would Be NO LIMIT WHATSOEVER! i am not Canadian, But Friggin Hosers man Yeeesh!

  • I have good news: For people who have followed the Community Guidelines, the limit is now completely gone. Upload your hour long vids now!

  • Epic wallpaper :D

  • ITS 15 NOW!

  • @ilikrandomness Yea this video is outdated, i still think they could of done 20 or 30 minutes but eh atleast youtube is finally changing something that actually NEEDED to be changed

  • @ilikrandomness for me not... it's unlimited :D they changed it :D

  • @juusiocraft OUTDATED COMMENT THE OLD 15 MINUTE TIME LIMIT.

    thaaaaats better

  • @rigomrtsfx And barely anyone to watch your videos. blip.tv allows longer vids too, plus revenue sharing. But again, much smaller potential audience. But as the title says, this vid is loooonnggg outdated (by about 4 years, in fact). I'm a Youtube Partner now, so no time limit.

  • @Zaranyzerak how lucky for you...

  • Youtube is run by a bunch of dipshits

  • i totally agree with what you said!!! all of it!!! even the part where we like to rant!! lol

  • i liked the bit you said at the end. i am now trying to upload a song that i covered - the song being 10:42 - is too long for youtube, i've even wasted an additional 2 hours compressing the thing but to no avail. what do i do now?

  • 10:42 should be okay, the actual time limit is 10:59.

  • thanks, it worked after all. the only downside was that i had to butcher the quality, so now it looks all grainy.

  • Ah, that sucks. You've got a 2 gig filesize limit too. So if it's under 10:59 and less than 2 gigs, you SHOULD be able to squeeze quite a bit of quality in there.

  • it's because of all the copyright. more and more people were uploading animes, tv shows, and what not, which brought youtube lots of meaningless lawsuits. so they dropped the limit to 10 minutes in a pointless attempt to stop it or cut down on the copyright being uploaded... I say it's pointless because uploading music vids or tv shows on youtube is THE SAME!!!!! as watching it on tv or on the radio..... in fact youtube is probably breaking a law or two by doing this crap

  • SSX 3 is a AMAZING game! No question about it. I too don't get into a lot of sport games either. The soundtrack for SSX 3 is awesome, Anyway I just now recorded for the 4th time *1st: Too long. 2nd & 3rd: The batteries wept dieing* Since I have QuickTime I'm not sure IF you can edit videos, if so how?

    Regards,

    TheTorturerVladimir60

  • Fuck my dicking lord *Talking to self* I was going to upload a Let's Play SSX 3 part but it's over the 10 minute mark, instead it was a 12:02 *Obviously I wasn't paying attention to my camera* *ARRRRRGGGGGHHHHH!!!!!*

    Regards,

    TheTorturerVladimir60

  • Damn, that sucks. But on the bright side- SSX3! Awesome game! I don't normally even like sports games, but that one was just too much fun (and an awesome soundtrack).

  • Its almost 2010...and now Youtube has a 2gig limit...and still retains a 10 minute limit...WHY?

  • i did try teh directer tab but it still rejected me, i wonder why

  • i know how everyone f***ing feels cuz i made a video where we really have no limits till my memery on my cam is full and i spent weeks trying to edit it and this faggotish utube wont let me put this fudging video on because its to long. that f-ing faggot fred is allowed 2 but we're not?!? wat is this crap!?!

  • cause fred is in the YouTube Partner program.

  • but fred is not funny. >: (

  • but he has a lot of subscribers

  • i know its serious bull but i have been told that if your account was created long before the 10 minute mark up to 42 minutes long thats just what i was told.

  • is there a way around this?????? i thought if u have a directors channel u can have videos longer than 10 minutes, and advice out there????

  • If you have a Director's account from 2006, yes. The only way around the time limit now is to get into the YouTube Partner program.

  • youtube/google is fucking pain in the dick there so fuck tarded i cant fucking stand there peace of faggetty shit service those pieces of mother fucking shit make fucking time limit of 10 fucken minutes my fucken 12 minute video got rejected after a fucking hour of uploading the fuk tards should all swallow knives while sucking eachothers small dicks

  • it is because they have too many ads on the site because of google

  • Well, if it helps, the ACTUAL time limit is 10:59. So if you can shave a second or two off, you might be able to just barely sneak 'em in...

  • This video has been removed because it is too long. Regular YouTube videos must be 10 minutes or less. o_O

the sam withe me for a video time of 11:00 m for 1 m it reject

  • hey can you tell me how come whenever I do a video on quick capture it is around 2 and a half minutes but when its uploaded its only 50 seconds or so.can you help?

  • ok, i spent 5 hours on my new movie and its 9 minutes and 54 seconds and it wont upload. PLEASE HELP....ANYONE!!

  • 10:59

so, the problem is something else

try using firefox and maybe turn off your firewall

  • also make sure it is not over 2222222 TB in size if u are not in direct link with the tube server or are using new technologies which i dont know of in a practical sense aka mainstream products

  • Looking forward to your next rant about YouTube, whenever that happens. :-D

  • so how do u feel about their time limit.

  • ever find out why they limit their videos to 10 minutes?.

  • It was to discourage people from posting full-length movies and episodes of anime, TV shows, etc. that violated copyright. Of course, it did little to deter them, those things are still posted just split into 10 minute parts.

  • Thats kinda dumb reason. If it ddnt work, WHY ARE THEY STILL DOING THE STUPID TIME LIMIT?????????? Sorry for the caps but the time limit just pisses me off

  • videogame playthroughs should be able to be longer than 10 minutes. watching 70 vidoes for 1 game playthrough sucks.

  • we agree, we were gonna put a video and 5 episodes of Woodland Ninjas up here, and they could've at least warned us about it on the home page.

  • I think its gone now

  • Read the title/description...

  • sorry

  • Hehehe...no worries, common mistake.

  • tho I think its a rumor only

  • nah it's still here but it's 11 minutes now.

  • WOOO HOOO DR WHO WALL PAPER LOL

  • yea the 10 min. limit suxs however it was put up to cut down on people putting up TV shows and other things that should not be on youtube. They can't screen every video put though youtube...

If 10 minutes is over, split it into 2 videos parts..that's what I would do now.

Speak faster, keep important topics in your script....You can make amazing videos in just 10 minutes.

the comment limit annoys me more...

  • "Speak faster, keep important topics in your script....You can make amazing videos in just 10 minutes.

the comment limit annoys me more..."This is true to a certian point. Rambling is quite annoying, however, splitting the video into 2 parts ruins the quality & impression of the video. Besides, you will need to know all the facts if someone uploaded a 20 min documentary or report. I have had a YouTube account since '05--& let me tell you, the 10 min limit hasn't stop people from uploading mov

  • hey i just notice that your video is 3minutes and some seconds so how did you do it. can you upload a video that is less than 3minutes becuase i am trying to do my project and i cant seem to upload this video. PLEASE WRITE ME BACK

  • Umm...I'm not sure what you're asking. You can post videos as short as 1 second if you want. A normal YouTube account can post videos up to 10 minutes in length, whereas some types of accounts have no time limit (just the 1GB size limit). My account is an old director account, so I don't have the time limit problem anymore. Just make sure you're using a format of video that YouTube accepts - wmv, mp4, mov, avi, mpg and that your filesize isn't too big.

  • it was capped to reduce copywrite violations nothing else but i have noticed on my account now that i am uncapped weather its to do with the fact im a partner im not sure but anywhoo thats the reason of the 10 min limit :)

  • I know, but as a strategy that failed dismally - the people uploading copyrighted stuff just split up their videos into parts...

  • LOL yeah i hear ya but now for some reason im uncapped but i wont complain :)

  • I've been uncapped since I got a Director's account when they first came out. But now I'm a Partner too. :) I guess they lift the cap for Partners because we're the Youtube "Elite" ;)

  • Anyone got a link to this director program?

  • people still split there videos in parts and it is still copyright

  • Someone should make a online petition to end the 10 min limit!

  • agree! it suxx .

  • i did

  • I agree. Time/length should not matter, only size. As long as a video does not exceed 100 Mb, the time of that video should not matter.

  • no system is perfect, neither is youtube. there is a loophole using which you CAN upload videos with ANY duration. no limits or duration bugs whatsoever. check out the last vid in my "Youtube Tricks" playlist...

  • I've got an old school Director's account, so I don't need that particular trick, BUT I found a lot of your other tips and tricks VERY useful! Thanks for the heads up!

  • ahh you lucky! i wish i had that :P

  • hah i uploaded 25 minute video... check out my profile and look for video called "Youtube Trick - 25 Minute Video", enjoy!

  • I uploaded an hour long video thats impressive......

  • u have directors accnt that lets you upload such long files... I DONT!

  • yeah. I got pissed when my friend and i made a video 11 minutes long with only 95 bytes. i had to upload it in two parts, and youtube wouldn't let me upload the second part.

  • what I don't get is... why the fuck google decides to make us all suffer instead of deleting the rule breakers accounts.

  • They made a limit cause ppl where posting Full movies and shows and stuff

  • but they still upload movies and shows

  • They should just banned the users who upload copyright material instead of setting a time limit on all videos. Why should everyone suffer because of a few bad users?

  • my friend and i made this really great video, the third video in a series of random videos,we made it, took me an hour or two to edit in pinnacle, then overnight to render, it's size is 34mb and when i found i couldn't submit my masterpiece i shit myself and got pissed... so now i'm surfing the net and utube to try to find a way to upload my video, and all i found was some 4 year old mexican kid who can't even speak english!

  • You can upload longer than 10 minutes ButIt's Have More New Limit: 37 minutes!

So Note Your Video are longer than 10 minutes, But less than 37 minutes.

so Your videos longer than 10 minutes and also longer than 37 failed, 37 Minutes Is New Limit To every account.

    (Director too).

  • You my friend are very correct, I think they should atleast give us up to 30 minutes I juzz did tha same thing you did I took ma time ta make a video that wazz like 15 minutes for nothing.

  • i hear ya dude. this 10 min cap SUCKS :(

  • Maybe 3 hours for a 14 minute movie or music video or many things...but for a vlog?

Take a speech class. The class will teach you how to organize and prepare a speech/lecture/vlog/etc. Also, your online appearance will likely improve. Simple things like good posture, flowing diction, and good lighting will make your vlogs much more enjoyable.

Please don't take offense...my videos have gone from horrible to okay. It's a learning process.

  • Um...actually, my diction, posture and appearance are just fine thanks. And my 100+ subscribers seem to agree. Oh, and did I mention I have over 20 years' experience in video production? Not really sure what you're trying to say, other than to spoon feed advice to someone who really isn't looking for (or requires) any.

Try watching some of my other blogs if you're looking for technical excellence - this was just an off the cuff rant with zero preparation or production value.

  • And if you paid attention, it took three hours to upload, not to MAKE.

  • I've noticed now after all this site maintenance lately, that there is no "your video is limited to 10 minutes" on the upload page. Now I haven't tried to upload a video longer than 10 minutes in a while, but I might as well just to see what happens.

  • Well it seems since this video was made they took it one step further. I just specifically created a director account to start uploading my work, and had the same problem. No 'new' directors can break the 10 minute limit. You have to had been a director before a certain date to go over 10 minutes. Which sucks even more than stopping standard members uploading more than 10 mins

  • ive made a petition against this:

    But youtube blocks URLS too!

You know why youtube sucks? GOOGLE

    FUCK YOUTUBE

FUCK GOOGLE! GOOGLE IS FUCKING SHIT, GOOGLE SHOULD ROT IN HELL, ROT IN SATANS ASSHOLE

  • YES! The video HAVE been waiting for! 4 stars for doing this because I SO bad need to upload some videos that I have so people can see. I will favor this video, how can I get YouTube to listen to me though? I DO want to post longer videos because I AM a "Director" and keep it under 100 MB, but still YouTube won't let me. Thanks for making this video though.

  • The only reason I could think of is anti-piracy. So that people can't upload full movies and shows, but those can just be deleted anyway or shown in parts. I'm pissed about this rule too. I just tried to upload my 18 minute movie and it took damn near an hour to do it, just to have the rejected message pop up. So I had to then cut it up and up load each segment, then link them all together. So now my movie is broken up into three parts which kind of affects the movie negativly.

  • yea its dumb cuz youtube can still be sued either way jus uploading a show in parts is so annnoying

  • i know that rule sucks! im favoriting this

  • SO BAD...!!!

    foooooooooool!

  • its because youtube is owned by google and google sucks balls... i know how you feel though becuase i cant get my vid on either and its pissing me off... im only 5 megs over the limit put on it GRRRRR dam youtube

  • Yeah I know how you feel, lawls. I had an 11 minute video and it got rejected. Exactly, you waste time uploading then it tells you that its rejected..

  • cool computer wallpaper.. doctor who lol

the 10min sucked thats why im a director

  • Yes if the time limit thing alone wasn't bad enough. They didn't warn anyone o.O

    Oh well

  • Amen! I work with an independant film company (Poetic Justice from Above, PJFA on youtube) and this time limit screwed us over bad for our latest release...GOOGLE VIDEO WORKS JUST FINE THOUGH ;)

  • Check out the Director program - no time limit, just the 100 meg filesize limit.

  • I think its because people where posting Hour and a half long Naruto Movies. Not to mention they are haveing problems with Anime being uploaded anyways.

  • Amen!

  • I do pay for my own site where I host my videos. This is an alternate host for my videos.

This wasn't intended to be an amusing one, simply my opinion. I notice you are quite new to the site, and have posted no videos of your own, so you obviously lack the frame of reference to understand why so many people are ticked off by the time limit.

  • why not get your own site. host your own video.

i played this for mt coworkers and they all got a good laugh. thanks.

  • What do you expect for free?

  • I expect the service to be as it was when it was started, and if it was going ot be changed that we would at least have been given fair warning and a REASON. I would happily pay for the service to have no time limit, but that option has yet to present itself.

  • Hey Sean,

I've posted a video reply to this here:-

    http://youtube.com/watch?v=lXYcSepRaMA

I was going to just write a text comment but I hit the character limit here as well!

  • I definitely agree! Actually, I didn't even know this limit had been imposed until I read your recent comment on my profile. My friend Carter and I were having a lot of fun making a little chat webcast that usually runs about 20 minutes or so. Several of our friends like to get involved and send us little clips to add to our upcoming episodes also--and there's not much chance we can continue with the show if we have to keep it under 10 minutes... I will send email to youtube about it.

  • And another one bites the dust... :( Well, put bluntly, that sucks! Hopefully you can find some way to do it as 10-minute episodes, I'd hate to see the show disappear so soon. Or, even better, hopefully YouTube will come to their senses and either take the restriction off again, or at least make it a more reasonable length.

  • Sorry, it truncated my final bit. Here it is again - And to give you some idea of the filesize difference, the orignal DV avi file of the same video is 687 megs. With DV you're looking at about 12 GIGS per hour of video. With wmv, you can knock that down to about 60 megs per hour. Hope that helps!

  • Hi! I use a Digital8 camcorder, but I think they both save out to computer in the same avi format. I edit everything in DV format (the "file" version of the camcorder format), then convert it to wmv using Windows Media Encoder at "VHS quality." Using the DV file as the source makes the wmv decent quality, and wmv is WAAAYYY smaller. My rant is under 8 megs. :)

  • That should have read "I EDIT everything..." not "I e everything..."

  • Agree, seems silly.

  • I agree! I am filmaker and I can't put half of videos online bacuase of this very reason! SUCKS!

  • I know, it's stupid - they already have the 100 meg limit, that's all they should need. I e-mailed them about it last night, I suggest everyone else do the same. Be POLITE, folks! Let's present a solid case to them for why the running time limit is redundant (with the 100 meg limit already in place) and unnecessary.
