I swore when I started to watch this that it was my school West Babylon New York from the 84 La Suerte de Los Tontos Show..The Guard work mimics our show exactly...Amazing..Love old school...Any return likely??????????
The Kennedy band was at one time one of the best in the nation. This video is actually the band on the decline. Before I got there they were much bigger and better. I think Clovis was the only band in the area who could even compete with them.
That's cool that you guys are growing now. I think Mr. Miles is good. Your show is pretty sophisticated. Its awesome that you guys do what you do with such a small group. Best of luck!
The Kennedy band had over 300 people in it at one time. I saw an old picture that showed enough tubas to spell out J F Kennedy. 85 was my first and best year in the band, I remember this show, it was actually one of our weaker performances of the year. There's a video floating around somewhere of all the performances of that year, including the Drumline and Color Guard competition at Kennedy. The band sounds pretty tight this year, hadn't heard much of them in awhile, nice to see em doing well.
I wish I knew where to get a copy, mine vanished years ago. I played snare from 85 to 88. I think the video is a collage of the years performances. Anybody out there have a copy....I'll pay!!!!!!!
wow, i never knew kennedy was this good! i just graduated last year and i was also in the band. it would be so amazing if we could be like that again...
unfortunately, many of the music programs in elementary and middle schools are getting cut because of the budget crisis, so lately we haven't been able to reel in many students.
D.O. Fell on hard times in the early to mid 90's, several directors over the course of several years, no consistancy. I havent followed the program in several years so dont know how they are now. What was the reason Kennedy fell from greatness anyway? It was always an impressive site seeing JFK roll in with all those buses and Semi trucks!
Similar situation. We lost a director that a lot of people were loyal to (for good reason). Also, looking back know (I know, hind site is 20/20) we didn't transition into the corps style show with all the other top bands. Foothill started to make that transition that year and it worked. I also think there were some cutbacks being made in the music departments for the junior highs in the area so new talent wasn't as experienced. Haha, yea the trucks and buses were fun.
I find it kinda amazing that you D.O. guys even remember us. Yeah, that was the second year of the beginning of the downfall from greatness. I think I remember seeing you guys my senior year and you were sounding really good. How are things now days over there?
Didn't you guys lose to Foothill? Never should have happened LOL. I Played trumpet at D.O. Would be great to see JFK and D.O. Back at the top of their game again.
I was in this performance. Those were the days.

Wow, to think that our schools marching band used to be that big.
I'm a senior color guard at JFK now.
The color guard is HUGE in this video. We had only 3 last year, and now we have 10. That is nowhere close to the amount on here.

How could we have lost sweepstakes at Del Oro? Darn judges' politics ... OK, guess I should let this one go after 23 years, right? :)
