SLATER is definetlly an amazing surfer, even in 90's, buty now we are living today, and if your not a kind of summer surfer you might agree that adriano was underscored another time!!! Im a big fan from slater, but adriano did a great job!!!!! Maybe once slater get the 10X judge will start to do a good job!!!! fair at least!!

KS seems to be unable to admit that those waves blow away the last decade of SoCal, watch for that you'll see it cuz he's selling SoCal, even though he'd rather surf elsewhere. Just a two day delay on J-Bay, SoCal Sucks.

Seems you get big points for critical aggressive maneuvers. Does not really matter how you land so long as you stay on your feet and can build up speed. That floater under pressure from 1.21 onwards is a perfect example where Slater just about lands but builds up speed again for the next section for another critical turn at the end. Judges love that as I do! For a man with a lower profile Adriano is ridiculously amazing surfer.

omg slater's floaters... it was a great final to watch live, the crowd was going crazy for adriano and slater! Gratz to both, epic surfing in sub par conditions!

Adriano looked like he had better timing but a little less speed. Slater seemed slightly out of control but went for bigger moves. I dont think Adriano should have won but the judges scores didn't seem right in quite a few heats. Particularly in Adriano's case.

sorry to disagree man, but slater is still the man... if you watch his videos from the early 90's, you will see that it's all there... he's a bit more discrete nowadays, but still gets the same insane projection from his pumping without the exaggerated body language...

that's just it, he has better projection than anyone else, it's easier for him to be in the right spot earlier in the wave than all the other super surfers out there. and he always used to look like out of control, but not quite

Fesco its fine to disagree, we all love the sport. I'd say Dane Reynolds is the best surfer in the world. Slater looked a bit out of control on a lot of his waves throughout the contest. This is unusual for him. He did some massive bottom turns but the off the tops looked a bit off. Early 90's and late 80's is all about Occy and Curren for me.

yep about late 80's/early 90's, his style was a bit unpolished back then, however, and this is what stuns me whenever i see him, he just always seems to pull his board out of the water and forward in a way that is just his... he looked like a crazy rag-doll back then, throwing the arms above his head after pumping, crouching down completely and then almost jumping up and off the board, but he has been able to generate speed in a way that i cannot see anyone do...

I still use quite a bit of the old judging criteria. I like to see the moves completed in full control. Remember the Taj vs Kelly at tresles? Kelly took the small waves but road them better? Surely Adriano should have got the benefit according to that criteria. Sure Kelly went faster but thats what the wave allowed. Adriano looked polished.

Due to the fact that some one else but him has won the last 2, if he wants to lock it in he needs to up his game. everyone else has 'uped there game' thats y he's not wining the final or even getting to it.

EionSculley you're not making any sense. He came third and the next comp is J-bay which he will do well at. Then you've got trestles and france which suit his style aswell. Anyway I find it more interesting if the competition is close instead of getting a run away leader. There seems to be less interest in the tour every year. The brazilian is probably the one that suffers the most.
