LEGENDARY call... but I seem to recall a longer shootout, around two or three seasons later. Judging by the fact that I can't find the record of this game anywhere, I seem to be mistaken, but I remember a game between Boston and the Islanders that had a shootout with 18 rounds. Zdeno Chara scored the winner... does anyone remember this?

Actually the Caps weren't that big back then and it was like game 5 or 6 of the season. ;) Malik had another gamewinner a few games later if I remember correctly. The shootout was brand new, it was a (seemingly) neverending one and ended with a circus shot by a guy who isn't really known for his agility. This will be Top 5 of Shootout goals for a long time, of not forever.

That said JD was the analyst he's not suppossed to be emotional if Sam Rosen was in it would have been a lot less bias Rosen is a very objective announcer who puts emotion no matter who scores. There's always bias of course but generally Rangers announcers are not this biased in game.

Can't believe this was almost five years ago, I was at that game and that goal is still the best. I know Malik turned into the team goat (at least to the fans), but he got to be the hero that night. Lundqvist was just becoming a name and Kolzig was in the twilight of his career, so great goalie showdown. Too bad most current Caps "fans" probably never even saw Kolzig play by the time they decided to jump on the bandwagon.

In all my years watching Rangers hockey, i have to say this shootout standsout as one of the most memorable moments.

I thought for sure it was over in the 14th round after the Caps scored, and Jason Strudwick was the next shooter. I'll never forget when he scored to keep the Rangers alive...and then set the stage for Marek Malik. He's the last person you'd ever expect to try any kind of between the legs move, and then the way he celebrated afterwards, priceless.

Even though Malik's goal was the obvious highlight of the shootout, you gotta give props to strudwick. a d-man who hardly has any goals in his career (i think, at the time of this shootout he only had like 2 or 3) coming up BIG in a clutch win/lose situation in the shootout. Malik has scored goals before in the past before this shootout (i believe one year he had like 6 for Hartford/Vancouver).

The Goalies must be Pretty good. Shootouts are basically like a player getting a break away in game, and if the player is good enough, they most likely score every time they get a break away. I'm a Pens fan but I just love Hockey, so I just look for it and what I found here is definitely one of my favorite hockey videos.
