  • Awesome car bro! I'm lookin at a 98 Ram Air right now with similar mods. You gettin a better launch from 1st or 2nd? I'm concerned about stripping the rear end from just dumpin the clutch....

  • 1st gear is the only way to launch. With the stock rear, it's just a crapshoot as to how long it will last.

  • i love your car bro , sounds hard ass and performance is great. i currently have a 95 firebird formula wich is alot of fun to drive but nothing like yours. i have a question(i can drive really good just not mechanically inclined) should i convert my LT1 to a LT4 or just wait & get an ls1 firehawk or ws6? i prefer firehawk , but ws6 is bad ass also. would you know the good & the bad with LT1 VS LS1? DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO!! :(

  • Get whichever one you like. LS1 has more power stock, but both can be built to be fast.

  • @SuperWhiteWiddow I just got done building my LT1 and I love it. Dont go LT4 though, theres much better cams out there. With just cam and bolt-ons you can get 350 to the wheels, add a good set of heads to that and 400+ to the wheels all day is easily done. LS1's are badass though, but if you already got a LT1 id stick to that and just build it. Itll be cheaper in the long run, oh and dont forget to replace your optispark when you build it you'll thank me later.

  • Yeah, 1st gear launch is where it's at. Got 12.97 @ 110MPH at track last weekend. You are right though, stuff is gonna break. Popped a tooth on that ring gear already :(

  • @rekjavicxxx you should be more worried about that T56 tranny that was built in mexico with not as grade A of parts... thats the only reason why i would never buy an LS1. the 6spd tranny in the LT1's are bullet proof compared to a 6spd tranny in an LS1

  • @NUNPUNCHER714 I might be wrong, but that T56 seems tougher than anything on that car. It's just solid man!! I did replace the clutch, but it was the original with 90k miles on it, so that's just gonna go eventually. Went with a Hendrix Racing clutch. It's SUPER solid!

  • @rekjavicxxx you must know how to drive your car then ;) all of them that ive seen are so worn out from high RPM miss shifts. i guess a lot of things just factor in. i do know that the LT1 trannys have a bit more quality to them.

  • That car with the cam, headers and gear should put out more than 375. Is it tuned right??

  • Of course it's tuned right. It's a 224/224 .561 112LSA cam so it's not huge. The 4.10s reduce the measured power on the dyno. It made 309 with just a lid, so with a cam and headers I picked up 66rwhp, and I'm happy with that.

  • I have the dyno sheets before and after. From 309 stock to 375 with cam and LTs. Not sure why that's so hard to believe. I have friends who have gained >100hp with a cam only.

  • @URPREY with a Cam only? No company that produces cam's claims 100hp with just a cam. 100hp with heads yes but just a cam, NO. Show it to me. Show me some dyno sheets, show me who makes the cam, thumper? Comp Cams? Lunati? Custom grind? Doug Herbert? Summit Racing? Show me please. BTW what cam do you have in your car? Sounds almost just like my 2001 SS. Im running pretty much what you are. 8.30's spinnin like crazy, i got 4.10 gears though :P NICE

  • no cam no slicks i have a stroker 383 roller cam and i run in that range a stock ls1 is 13s

  • well the firehawk was modified to have about 30 more horsepower than the trans am or formula...it was modified by SLP and they have a list of mods if you want to fing out what exactly. :)

  • That Firehawk sounds like it's cammed. A stock '01-'02 Trans Am WS6 can do 13.1.

  • Okay guys, what's the difference between a: Firebird, Formula Firebird, FireHawk and a WS6? Is it just horespower or is it something more?

  • firebird coupe is a 6 cylinder, regular hatch back wing, and different nose. Formula, is basically the Firebird coupe model, a bit longer with a v8. The trans am is a different nose, V8, and a rasied Wing with Ram Air option. Firehawk usually is a formula with SLP Performance.

  • There are also: Firebird Formula WS6 and Firebird Firehawk's.

  • you are right on, except there is no difference in length between any of the cars. the formula is not any longer than the V6. But add this: The Ws6 is a trans Am with a ram air induction upping horsepower by 20hp. A firehawk is a trans am sent in the SLP to get an SLP hood, SLP intake, SLP exhaust, and rims. This adds about 30 hp over the Ws6 and to a degree makes it the king of Firebirds (and trans am's), with a limited production made each year.

  • cars seem fine to me. running those times is about right for the mods. when cars have the factory 1/4 mile times, they are driven by pros and really beat. go out and race yourself then make comments. i like these cars and I have no suggestions other than have fun with what you got.

  • That's normal. If the posi was going bad what you would see would actually be the opposite....to an extent. It's a little more complicated that , lots of variables but yeah the "slide to left" is not indicative of a bad posi.

    For those telling me I need to do this or that, keep in mind that this is my show car that I race a couple times a year. With the small cam, headers, and gears, my times are about where they should be. Sure, I could squeeze a little more out of it. I don't need to :)

  • Love Firehawks. Needs to buy a line lock or learn how to do a proper burnout. Car's got a cam and he's still running 12's? Something wrong with the tuning or driver.
