  • Outliers is an awesome mind opening book. Hard statisics and math illimumanating certain myths about free will. Of course the earlier you read it the more likely you could mitigate some of the randomness that plots your course and exert your will. And then again thats just the luck of being exposed to the info, proving the point. I just blew my own mind. Your advice is awesome. Very articulate and full of simple immutable truths. Prodigy is practice

  • More is MORE less is less.

  • Listen up. This is some of the best advice I've ever heard. The 10,000 hour rule is reality. Hard work and repetition, there's no way around it as it separates the men from the boys. His instruction on how playing 2000 shows onstage teaches you things you can't learn otherwise is truly sound advice. Whoever takes this advice to heart and puts it into action will certainly progress and reach the places they want to go in their career, no matter your field. An auto mechanic can learn from this.

  • why do i say this?

  • How do you play slow?

  • i was practicing serrana arpeggios by jason becker then i decided to play cromatically up then down the strings several times with 3 different speeds after i watched this video, after i did that i went back to serrana and my arpeggios were 40 percent cleaner

  • Such a good teacher

  • Batio are very good at what he does, but he is overrated and limited both as musican and songwriter. No one can say that his songs are interesting from a musical perspective. ALL is about his ego, he wants to be the best so badly. Therefore he try to play faster than all other, he do the "over-under", use double and "Quad" guitars etc.. He talk about himself as if he were a genius, all this boasting makes me sick. "10.000 hour rule"... so wrong! He should take off his ugly wig and grow up!

  • @HugalBeing

There is nothing wrong with showing off. Mozart played the piano while sitting backwards and had his arms criss crossed at the same time. He was a total show off and also supposedly very arrogant. Are you going to say that Mozart sucks now? MAB talks about so many guitarists other than himself in these videos, he isn't self-absorbed. He plays complicated music, but most of it sounds good to my ears and to many others. Get your head out of your ass and grow up.

  • @Fluffypopcicle I have listened to Mozart's music for over 30 years, I've read several biographer of him and played much of his piano music. In the movie Amadeus, he plays sitting backwards and had his arm criss crossed, there is no evidence that he did this.. No, he does not play complicated things music theoretically, it's very simple, but he plays clean and has a much more varied licks than other shredders.

  • @HugalBeing

    Really? I didn't know odd meters of 7/4 13/8 13/8 11/8 7/4 13/8 6/4 7/8 11/8 and 6/4 were simple theoretically. composerscave(dot)com/featured-composers/mozart-wolfgang-amadeus/wolfgang-amadeus-mozart-bio(dot)html the info is here and in quite a few other sites.

  • @Fluffypopcicle Odd time signatures are not complicated in itself, but it can be hard to read and sometimes it requires a lot of practice with a metronome to get it right... Not much info in that link, I found several errors instantly. I can recommend "Maynard Solomon - Mozart: A Life Mozart" and "Folke Törnblom - Mozart: Kochel 1-626", my favorite biographies.

  • @HugalBeing

Read a little bit down. It mentions him playing blindfolded and backwards. Odd time signatures ludicrously complicated if executed in odd meters like that. It's not really a matter of reading, it's a matter of memorizing. Reading Dance of Eternity by Dream Theater is one thing, but memorizing over 100 time signature changes and a good 30 key changes or so in one song is way different.

  • @Fluffypopcicle That is correct, Mozart played blindfolded as child as they traveled around in Europe with his father and sister. There are multiple sources of evidence for this. It was of course Leopold's idea to impress the audience.. Batio was the topic. Well, he is a great guitar shredder but I find his music repetitive and rather uninteresting. We all have different taste in music but, when i hear him talk about the "10,000 hour rule" i get upset, because it's wrong.

  • @HugalBeing

Well, you can't judge him on something as random and almost irrelevant as that. He does like ascending and descending in groups of 6 and that can sound pretty repetitive at times. His tapping sounds cool at first, but it gets old pretty fast. He can get a bit repetitive, but he can make great music too. It does seem like he is running out of ideas though considering his last 2 albums were made up of almost entirely covers.

  • @Fluffypopcicle I question the artists who build their whole careers on to showcase their abilities and making it to a self-purpose. It should be a tool to express themselves artistically. What is music all about? It's not obvious to all. Great guitar playing is not the same as good music. The most guitar-shred feels constructed and superficial - contrary to what i consider to be "art". Music. It's not just about MAB, i'm talking more in general. Hard to explain this in english, hope you get it.

  • @HugalBeing

He does stuff for stage presence. I don't know why you can't understand the concept of stage presence, it doesn't make you any less musical. It makes you more entertaining to see live and there is nothing wrong with that. You might not be able to feel MAB's music, but I do and so do many others.

  • @HugalBeing

This is why you don't have his success because you don't learn from anybody who has mastered the art. Ask MAB to play classical, Jazz, Blues, anything..He can because he has pushed his technique so far! I have seen him live he knows what he is talking about and he he is able to play with such ease because he intact did put in 10 thousand hours.

  • "theres always going to be a faster guy" yeah, you.

  • MAB is a lovely guy and has so much time for his fans and fellow players... I am personally honoured to know him. He is very approachable at conventions etc... and he will talk for hours on the guitar

  • Not my favorite shredder, but the guy's got his shit together and KNOWS about guitar playing and music overall :)

  • @H057IL3,

Ya know, I was just thinking the same thing!

He's not my favorite player, (stylistically) but I DO have a ton of respect for him, and EVERYTHING he mentions in this video-clip is NO-BULLSHIT! He's very inspiting and seems to enjoy helping others!

"10,000 hours & no substitute for live performance experience." - PERFECT!
