  • The soundtrack for this movie is amazing.

  • Ironically, this book served as one of the many inspiration for Star Wars.

  • wtfs up with stings hair didnt know he was a ginger lol

  • The spice is life!

  • variety is the spice of life and thats found on any crappy planet

  • 1:04

Picard and Riker sure get around don't they?

  • @CLOAKENGAEGED Riker?

  • I was watching "The Grand" and this funny ass character "Harold Melvin" always quoted lines from Dune so I had to check out this trailer.

  • My first Realtime strategi game DUNE " LOVED IT back then;D The beggining of it all..

  • @BluWolf2012 For me, it was Dune 2000

  • Year 10191? What a surprise! It is such a long future.

  • shit... i had to watch this movie...

  • @DrLynch2009 this is a very old movie, but one of the best

  • Somebody needs to do a Lord of the Rings with this, get it remade as a series of films

  • @albertrand71 they have a T.V series that is not bad at all, everyone has their favorite though.. search this ""Dune" (2000) (mini) TV-Series" they also continued it and made Children of Dune series too. Its very faithful to the books. People argue the acting is not as good but still its a definite watch for a dune fan.

  • Apart from the HQ 3D effects and it's weird moments, this film is quite awesome.

  • Masterpiece

  • I LOVE THIS MOVIE

    THE SOUNDTRACK RULES !!

  • I first saw this movie in 84 as a 14 year old and hated it. I've since become a huge fan of Dune and David Lynch, he truly made Dune as cerebral and bizzare as he was allowed to, even though he was denied final cut. Frank Herbert loved the film, so he must of done something right. Is it flawed? Oh yah, but it is not as bad as its reputation makes it out to be.

  • This movie sucks.

  • @CloneByDesign This movie rocks!!

  • @CloneByDesign disagree

  • @CloneByDesign I strongly disagree

  • @CloneByDesign

    No taste

  • The artist Salvador Dali was supposed to play the emperor, but he kept raising his fee until they told him no.

  • Arrakis = IRAQis

    Spice = Oil

    Mind = Blown

  • @faravignon The natives of Arrakis fighting to protect their planet from imperial rapists? Like the interpretation.

  • @faravignon Oh god.

    Frank Herbert was prescient.

  • What movie is like Dune 2?

  • just watching this with all the imagery of a dark gothic style is conjuring up the question of why they cant do a warhammer 40k movie.......the dark gothic atmosphere lends itself well to that kind of film

  • Blackyoshi@ If You Do Not Have The Spice, You Do Not Have The Power! There For "The Spice Must Flow!" So You Have The Power!

  • David Lynch's "Dune" differs from the book. That's why many people criticize it but I don't agree. The whole movie was very well done, visual effects were great for that time and the acting was brilliant. Kyle MacLachlan and Francesca Annis were stunning

  • wah it's not just like the book.books are not written with a cimematic adaption in mind. what pleases fans of the book may not translate well to general audiences. narratives and characters are changed all the time in movie adaptions and if you had not read the book you would be none the wiser. lynch disowned the film because of studio interference which made him feel it was no longer his film or vision. if you can't enjoy a film for it's own merits than why set yourself up for disappointment ?

  • LUNGA VITA AI GUERRIERI FREMEN!!

  • The novels are fantastic...

    LONG LIVE THE FIGHTERS!

  • oh, i remember when i so this movie for the firs time... that was so great SF story for i young boy ;)

  • I like the Theme Song

  • Arrakis sounds like Iraq.

  • Frank was ahead or his time

  • how i wish they would remake this....

  • @qazzi00 If this was remade today, do you think it would work?

  • @Sweetmervs Yeah.. i mean the special effects are much better now.....just if thy did i wish they'd make it in 3-4 part movie...

  • @qazzi00 If they gave this movie to Peter Jackson, do you think he would be wonderful job of remaking this film?

  • @Sweetmervs probably....

  • @Sweetmervs yeah probably...

  • @Sweetmervs im sure of it... i recently saw district 9... and it is awesome, and pretty much more realistic than many sci fi movies...

  • Can we have Peter Jackson do these books next?

  • @Tribune12345 But the books extends from 6 to 12 books. Do you think he can do it?

  • @Sweetmervs I've only read the first one so far but I'm sure he could find a place to cut it off...or maybe not...I won't know til I read the others.

  • the film was bullshit but the books are bloody amazing

  • is this star wars sry i dont can read

  • To Tame a Land

  • Is there worms in this?

  • i just read book... it is masterpiece. Now i must see the movie!

  • There is just one thing that is unfortunate about Frank Herbert's dune series. It kind of feels wrong to read the books while it is raining...

  • The Spice Must Flow!

  • @RAMason2050 I object. "He who controls the spice controls the universe!"

  • @RAMason2050 Шпайш Мазт Флоу

  • @RAMason2050 Oh yeah!That's a sample from 1991 techno anthem,"Spice",by UK techno musician "Eon".

  • @TheXtro101 That would be Brian ENO, not 'Eon'.

  • i love this movie and the mini series children of dune, the books and the games.

    Fear is the mindkiller.

my gf: and ya she is hot, and so was sting.

  • i loved this movie and the mini series children of dune, the books and the games.

    Fear is the mindkiller.

  • Dune is epic

  • I definitely prefer the mini-series.

  • well i loved this movie :D

  • WHAT A FUCK??????????????????????????

  • I saw this movie in the tv for 10 min ago and I love it is there a Dune 2

  • if you didn't like the fucking movie, stop coming on videos and bashing it, its an idiotic waste of time

  • Someone should do an Avatar-Dune parody trailer with the audio of Avatar's trailer set to scenes from this movie or the Mini-series since Avatar is the same as Frank Herbert's Dune novels and share similarities.

  • @Johnlindsey289 Avatar is like a kindergarten version of Dune.

  • Yes read the books but don't watch this shitin movie!

  • @Mehmetuzguhl

Those books are fantastic but this adaptation is kind of a horrible parody of the great novels and Lynch was the wrong man when it could have been Alejandro Jorodowksy or Ridley Scott who both had amazing ideas to make Dune into a movie when Lynch was a gun-for-hire as he doesn't know anything about the books. He even disowned this movie in 1988 and doesn't like to talk about it for it's a painful memory as it taught him never to do big budget hollywood films again

  • @Johnlindsey289

Yes, I'm agree with you, and the special effects are mazing today.

I hope a new movie version will coming!

  • @Mehmetuzguhl

I mean Lynch is a damn great director but this is his worst film and you glad he disowned it?

  • I personnally just love the cast. I never read the books, and probably wont. But I wish they could make a another movie. I didnt like the miniserie, but I did like Children of Dune, but I have no clue if it was closer or not to the books.

  • This movie, today seems like a crazy miracle. A big budget production, directed by David Lynch with music by BRIAN ENO / Daniel Lanois (the Pearl)... one of the most cerebral, philosophical and old school sci fi narratives ever made. A part of me deeply wants to make a DUNE tv series inspired by the great american artist David Lynch.

  • LOOKS like A CHEESY movie , but I gonna WATCH it

  • Know then that it is the year 10000-1-91. The known universe is co ruled by Queen Irulan the first, my wife. All day we smoke spice.

  • GREATEST. TRAILER. NARRATION. EVER.

  • I read the book first then watched the movie. I only liked the movie because I LOVED the book. I can't see anyone that hasn't read the book like the movie by itself. Dune is too epic and outlandish and ridiculous for a silly movie like this to do well.

  • the movie its horrible, cheap, not convincing at all, the script is a disaster, and the role play ......well enough for a day. today thanks to tech, we have better fanmovies than that shit, the story is ok but nothing special.

  • Olgoj Chorchoj is best :D

  • Books are great. Movie sucks ass...

  • @0wormer0 Very well articulated sentence...

  • @JonnyHoldstock

Just like the creation of book's world in the movie. Making Baron Harkonnen flying up the ceiling, mentats looking like zombies, or guild navigators looking like big bugs, instead of fish-like humanoids. Fremen fighting with LASER GUNS?! Or MAYBE the fact that you barely see ANY sand in the movie? I can go on with this list forever, but there is no reason for me to do it, all I need to say is - movie SUCKS and makes parody out of book.

  • that princess is sexy

  • @TheDEATHSTARIII

    Virginia Madsen

  • chuckkkkkk!

  • overrated

  • The Spice must flow.

  • I R DUNECAT, I CONTROLS TEH SPICE, I CONTROLZ TEH UNIVERSE

  • @wizzzer1337

If I brings mouse....willu let me liffff?

  • If Pierre Morel will fuck up the new movie, i'll drive to where ever he's at and i'll hit him with a board in the face... DON'T MAKE THE MOVIE IF YOU'RE NOT SURE ABOUT IT

  • @chksss have you been living under a rock, he left the project weeks ago and a new director has to be found by spring 2011 or paramount loses the rights to the book

  • I didn't' read the book unfortunately, the movie was okay, but whenever I see Kyle MacLachlan, I think of showgirl.

  • 1:48 sting is bad and crazy " i ll will kill hiim!!"lol

  • Dino Delaurentiis RIP

  • Most of the stuff in this movie that actually came from the book was well done. Unfortunately, almost all of the "improvements" made by David Lynch were a disaster. Still, the movie is quite enjoyable if you know the book well, but very confusing for newcomers.

  • From Dusk till Dune

  • they should reproduce that movie

  • @ramy5421

they did… it's a better version… avail on DVD. produced for the sci fi channel sev. years ago.

  • Whats the name of that disgusting flying fleshy thing in the canister with the nasty ass mouth?

  • @Chameleonardodavinci Space Guild Navigator

  • ohh i see grumpy old men wonting their crap films have them im not bothered ha ha ha

  • great movie

  • i think all old film need to be removed as they are all crap

  • @shamusmilne If this film adaptation was done right, it could have surpassed the LOTR movie.

  • @shamusmilne dumbass

  • @shamusmilne Shows what you know. Go drown yourself now, Troglodyte.

  • this is so damn classic!

  • 10.10.10

  • the book is better

  • 2:17 Hehe it's Eric Foreman from "That 70's Show"

  • @tommy1977777 The only storyline I've ever seen to compare is the wheel of time series.

  • who is that girl at the start , she almost looks like sharon stone

  • @TURBODORK2 virginia madsen

  • I saw this film when I was about 10 the first time. It freaked me out and I didn't know what fuck it was all about then. I watched it again when I was about 25 and I was totally stoned at the time........it really fucking freaked me out but I knew if there is any film worth watching when your stoned, Dune had to be up there. Talk about a total sci fi mind fuck..........' He who controls the spice controls the universe' is right up there with the greatest lines ever in film. AWESOME SHIT !!!

  • All that being said, Star Wars and Dune have many differences, not least among them being the fact that they're two different genres (space opera vs. sci-fi). There's also the technology aspect (no droids in Dune) and differences is society (Star Wars has many intelligent alien races, Dune has only humans).

  • Star Wars borrows a few concepts from Dune. Tatooine is a desert planet with dangerous krayt dragons roaming around. The Sand People are fierce desert nomads. There's the glitterstim spice mined on Kessel. The Jedi Order shares some similarities with the Bene Gesserit Sisterhood.

In fact, it's possible to play a Dune campaign in Star Wars the RPG (2nd edition). I've done lots of conversions without having to modify the basic rules at all. I posted it in the D6 section of the holonet.

  • excellent movie but where are the ordos ?? are they only in the games ??

  • @tomislavmartinovic

as far as i know the ordos were only mentioned once in the books as a merchant house. The battle was between the Atreides and the Harkonnen. The Ordos have joined the battle in the games since Dune II.

  • @tomislavmartinovic The Ordos were only briefly mentioned in the novel, IIRC. Their role was greatly expanded by the people who made the Dune computer games.

  • @smithsb I agree!!!!! Dune was amazing

  • it was originally supposed to come out in 1975, have a team of authors work on the script (Herbert, Wells etc.) and have Pink Floyd do the soundtrack. That would have been great!! but no.....we got Toto LOL

  • Watched like thirty seconds then couidnt watch any more cus books were so good

  • I read the first two books of the series and I'm currently reading the third. I was really curios about the movie so I asked my mom about it and she said that I would probably be disappointed in it... mostly in the special effects but I'm more interested in the story. It's true that I am very critical about the accuracy of the story and I am disappointed in most of the movies that way (mostly if I read the book first) Anyways...I wanted to ask you guys if it's worth seeing :)

  • @free2runthrough Even if i have not seen it, some people would characterize the 84 movie was weird and it strayed from the book. I would suggest you watch the remake of Dune which would be shown in 2012.

  • I was a kid when I watched this movie...It was EPIC!!

I am trying to find it somewhere to watch it again..... And yes, the guy at 1:03 is Patrick Stewart (Picard), and the blond guy at 1:52 is Sting...Yes, the same one who sings Desert Rose.

  • it is picard!!!

  • picard!!!!!

am i right ??? just look at 1:03 he is the boold one.

boold, bold.... the one with outh hear.

  • im reading the book right now

  • READ THE BOOKS !!!!!!!!!

  • @siskosb Amen. The 90's Sci-Fy version was much better than this "cliff notes" movie. The 2001 Dune was just ... awful ... beyond words.

    But the books? Wow.

  • Never seen it, but curious as to why it was one of the biggest movie bombs of all time. They nearly got Salvidor Dali on board from what I heard. That would have been interesting. I'm sure if it was done again, with a different and more truer vision it would be better. James Cameron or Peter Jackson on directing duties perhaps?

  • @DeadWhiteButterflies My god. Please no James Cameron. Yes he made Aliens and Terminator 2, but he has fallen into the pit of not being able to tell a story, and focus only on special effects. Peter Jackson on the other hand, I would like to see that.

  • @TerpaX89 Would you want for Peter Jackson to direct Dune, the sequels and the prequels? There are 9 books, which comprises of the sequels and the prequels.

  • @Sweetmervs Yes, but Herbert's Son's prequels suck and are riddled with horrible continuity errors (11 of them with 2 more on the way), so really it's only 6 total unless you want to count Encyclopedia Of Dune. Is Peter Jackson my ideal choice? No. But better then most. Really for such a complex story I can't think of a current director off the top of my head that can do it.

  • @TerpaX89 Thanks. I was just imagining, what would be the outcome of the film if he were to made 3 of the first books? Who would he cast for the characters in the book?

  • @DeadWhiteButterflies do not,i repeat,do not let anything get in the hands of that James Cameron...it'll all turn into a brightly/ugly colored movie with no story

  • Dune is the greatest sci-fi series EVER. No discussion/

  • Loved the book, hated the movie. Impossible to follow for people who have never read the book. Hard to follow even for people who have read the book. That being said if you could get into it... it was okay. Nothing memorable like the book but it was okay... The Sci Fi channel's mini series of Children of Dun in my opinion was a little bit better.

  • Don't you think it's funny that the same dude has been doing the voice over for the trailers for like almost thirty years!!!

When he dies, Pablo Fransisco will have to take over....

  • @moodphase5 it is his job ya know :)

  • 10k after battle of korrin couple k before that till year 2k as well :D

  • Dune cant hold a candle to Star wars

  • Baron = BOOMER!

  • Horrible adaptation, but great movie. But that's what happened when you give it to David Lynch. Lynch is awesome, but he has his own unique vision (which is what makes him awesome), and can't be expected to make a true to book adaptation. I hope someone else does one, but doesn't make this movie any less great... just not a very good adaptation.

  • This is a kickass trailer! Also, a valid criticism of the movie would be the fact that it departs from the book quite a bit in it's presentation.

  • Only one of the best sci-fi movies of the 80's ever!

  • DUNE WAS A NICE PLACE AS MOST PLACES AS A CHILD YET

PART OF MOIVE MAKER IS MEMORY NETWORK LOSS OR WAS

  • @SOWHATIMADEIT you need to lay off the spice.

  • @STiELzephyr SAD WHEN STAR WARS AN DUNE AN OTHERS HAVE REAL GOV CONTROLED LIFTERS AN LIKE HOT AIR BLIMS , YET CHANGE OF GOV PERSONS STILL THEY GOT HURT AN NOT LIKE STAR WARS NO CHEMICALS SO THEY ARE NOT LASERS WORK, NICE OLD PERSONS YET THEY TOOK GAS TO KNOW THEY OWN HUMAN MEMORY OF WHAT THEY DID WAS CONTRACT WORK YEARS OLDER IN POST FLIMING PLACES YET LIFE LIFE STILE POISONS WAS FOOD, GOV CAN PART IN SHOW MAKEING NOT JUST SCIENCE, EVEN THE BAD GUY WAS NICE IN PERSONS OF DUNE PLACES ,HUMMM

  • R.I.P. Don LaFontaine (Voiceover)

  • The book is great, the trailer is great, the music is great, the movie itself was... Okay.

  • @Mrster as a David Lynch film, Dune was great, but as an adaption to Dune, it was Okay

  • I wish the actual movie was as good as the trailer.

  • What I dont understand is why it was panned so univerally by the critics. The very same critics are always belly-aching about how Hollywood movies are so formulaic, predictable and boring...........so then they encounter a movie thats a bit challenging they say its "too difficult". Dune was the second movie in history to make more from video and DVD sales than it did at the box office.

  • @stegatops: One of the problems was that it was something like 10 years in the making; de Laurentis shot mountains of film and threw it all out and started over multiple times; they nearly killed people trying to color their eyes blue, before finally settling on CGI. It was like a 10 year TV serial before it ever got to the screen. It seemed to purposefully pull away from the book, munging philosophies and motivations all over the place. People just got tired of hearing about it.

  • Quality soundtrack by TOTO!!

  • 0:45 now that is a good fight training :D

  • Great movie even though it's not quite like the book but i do agree the Mini-series with it's superior sequel "Children of Dune" are the closet movies of being like Herbert's vision. I enjoy this movie since i was a kid in the 80's watching it on video and i had a few of the Dune toys.

Anyone thinks the closet movies similar to Dune are Stargate, Avatar, The Fifth Element, Total Recall, Dark City and The Matrix?

  • looks like this movie sucks

  • ,Lynch's worst movie! This appalling mess should not have been called Dune but Dunce for the way they filmed the story.and butchered the characters..

The mini series that was made later is a superior and faithful telling of

the Dune saga and obviously handled by people who care about the story. and

    not just effects!

  • sweet movie

  • A beginning is a very delicate time. Know then taht it is teh year 2010. The most precious substance in the universe is the petroleum oil. The oil enhances life. Only with the oil people can travel from continent to continent. The oil exists mainly on one country on the planet. The country is Iraqis, also known for dunes....

  • I suggested earlier that DUNE was an allegory for the Iran/Iraq war.......the only difference being the spice is really the oil and the planet Dune the Shat-al-Arab waterway..........and I got caned by the trolls for my efforts!

  • @stegatops Well its not an allegory, as Dune was there earlier than the war. But one must admire Frank Herbert, the author of the book for making the conflicts about short resources, global politics and religion a topic back in the 50s, when everybody was busy hunting communists.

  • LONG LIVE THE FIGHTERS!

  • Great cast. I wish Lynch could do it now with computers as they are. This movie should be longer and it didn't work out with all this " thinking going on in those heads" as to this trailer it looks like from the VHS ;) like in the childhood again! thanks

  • I find it ironic how the planet is called Arrakis and they are fighting over the control to mine 'spice'.

  • @imnotgivingmynametou What's Ironic about it?

  • @ThereisNoGoingHome There's just some parallels to the Iraq war.

  • @imnotgivingmynametou That's really interesting. You've given me of a different way of looking at it.

    Awesome.

  • I liked the Harkonens in this film, very similar to how I imagined them from the book.

  • It would be a lengthy movie. They'd need extensive voice-overs not only to speed up the pace, but also to translate the thoughs, emotions, visions of characters. There's a lot of material to cover.
