Yeah well it's also true that the USA has over 42 million inhabitants who are other than white, whereas Sweden has less than 70,000 inhabitants who are other than white. The US prison population is predominantly black males followed by Hispanic/Latin males. Black & Latin males commit most crimes & seeing as Sweden has far less other than White Males, I'd contend that fact is a greater contributor to Sweden's low crime rate than the lack of religious faith. The prosecution could have twisted their unsubstantial 'proof' to convince the jurors of anything. Especially since the case was about a murdered 'cop'. These ad populous fallacies make me sick. The death penalty doesn't make sense. In a system where mistakes are made we cannot afford to kill anyone who may be innocent. Well being a retired police officer and experiencing how scandelous man is to man, I use to be pro death penalty. I worked in the city of Inglewood, Cali therefore I saw a lot of man's inhumanity to man. Yet, that does not justify the taking of someone's life....especially when blacks make up just 12% of the nation, yet makeup 42% or higher of the folks incarcerated. There is no reason the person on death row has to be there 10 years. No reason he could not be required to work those 10 years so you cannot make a distinction there. A person given life may be there for 30 or 40 years if he commits crime while young. No way that costs less money. And if they work they must be paid increasing the expense of keeping them in prison not to mention taking jobs away from private sector law abiding citizens.

In California it costs over $6 million to carry out the death penalty and around $1.5 million to sentence someone to life. Unfortunately, you cannot force them to work during this time, because prisoners still have rights.

Only a handful of my kids are in prison and they spend so much time whining about their food and accommodations and begging for money. Not if you do an accurate accounting of the costs including food, medical care. wages of guards, facilities, and the costs of their appeals and parole hearings. When they work they are benefiting society, a dead man cannot benefit society. A man on death row must be put in a cell by themselves, in a maximum security prison, for usually over 10 years. That is way more expensive then life in prison.

Yeah well it's also true that the USA has over 42 million inhabitants who are other than white, whereas Sweden has less than 70,000 inhabitants who are other than white. The US prison population is predominantly black males followed by Hispanic/Latin males. The death penalty doesn't make sense. In a system where mistakes are made we cannot afford to kill anyone who may be innocent. I realize there are some real sickos out there who will never change their ways. It is not the states responsibility to eliminate these people but rather to keep the civilized people safe.

I voted guilty when I was in a jury.
The man was definetly not guilty, but he was a homeless, dangerous, drug addict and deserved to die.
It gave me a hell of a power rush. He has no more appeals left and I wish I can come and see the execution.

Well being a retired police officer and experiencing how scandelous man is to man, I use to be pro death penalty. I worked in the city of Inglewood, Cali therefore I saw a lot of man's inhumanity to man. Yet, that does not justify the taking of someone's life....especially when blacks make up just 12% of the nation, yet makeup 42% or higher of the folks incarcerated. Furthermore, when most of the judges are male white. It's a gross misjustice. Period. t.s.

The Death Sentence has it's place, but we grossly over use it. It shouldn't be a common thing that simple (if that word even applies) murder earns you, it should be something used to make an example of an individual. Those who've killed/tortured children, serial killers, etc.

There is no reason the person on death row has to be there 10 years. No reason he could not be required to work those 10 years so you cannot make a distinction there. A person given life may be there for 30 or 40 years if he commits crime while young. No way that costs less money. And if they work they must be paid increasing the expense of keeping them in prison not to mention taking jobs away from private sector law abiding citizens.

In California it costs over $6 million to carry out the death penalty and around $1.5 million to sentence someone to life. Unfortunately, you cannot force them to work during this time, because prisoners still have rights.

Only a handful of my kids are in prison and they spend so much time whining about their food and accommodations and begging for money. Yet they didn't give me or the government a damn thing when they made money selling drugs.

It is not true that it costs more to put someone to death than keep them on death row for life. Not if you do an accurate accounting of the costs including food, medical care. wages of guards, facilities, and the costs of their appeals and parole hearings. Nobody ever talks about giving the victim the choice of life. Oh, I forgot you only get a choice of life in prisin after you kill someone.

@bab5spadesking they work when they are given life in prison. They have an incentive to work so they can afford phone calls and other small luxuries from the prison store. When they work they are benefiting society, a dead man cannot benefit society. A man on death row must be put in a cell by themselves, in a maximum security prison, for usually over 10 years. That is way more expensive then life in prison.

But I hope that they have these incentives in all prisons for lifers because a lot of them are finally forgotten by those on the outside. Every needs something to look forward to. Even if it is a pack of Top Ramen.

But they both began vandalizing property, getting kicked out of kindergarten for stabbing kids with plastic forks and the list goes on...you couldn't tell me that the judges didn't think that they were both doing the state of California a favor in some small way..lol
