  • I just had my !st 1 woman art show Mar. 1,'11 and I sang this song! I was so nervous that I sang part of this song and ended with Michael Jackson's Who's Loving You! lol But I had a great time and people enjoyed the show, especially the ambient music provided by an Iphone app,Thumbjam! Thanx for the posting; I never get tired of this song!

  • "I used to LOVE this song....yes, Wanda sang lead on this one. It has a kinda' Martha & Vandellas flava."

Yes -- this has very much the feel of "Nowhere To Run," which also came out in 1965 (was it before or after this?). One of Motown's many unrecognized gems.

  • this is one of their songs that you could dance the jerk to and have a ball

  • We used to "wrestle" to get the hairbrush "mic" at my cousins' house, during the 4th of July family barbeque...the winner got to be the lead! lol

  • @MsSunnysmith lol my and my cousins still do that, fun times

  • @MotownMaster Is there a karaoke version of this song available? I 'm planning to do this as a "girl group"( me & a drawing of 2 back up singers) in my first 1- woman art show in March 2011. If not,I guess I'll have to sing louder than Wanda! ;-D

  • This has always been one of my favorites. Great for hand-dancing if you are in shape. The Marveletters were real popular in D.C. Too bad it was not nation-wide.

  • kermit the frog ????

  • For **** sake get on with the track. And its brilliant

  • Amen

  • Definately best Marvelettes 45 and probably their most in demand.such a great 60s Motown sound ! Thanks for posting Motown Master

  • In my opinion the best marvelettes song ever

  • Ahh the best days of my life!! when all i cared about was my lambretta,Clothes and girls and speed!!!!! Lovely!!!

  • Any of you Mods from Northampton around anymore ?

    Vic

  • I wonder why this tune was not included on their Greatest Hits album?? It peaked at #34 on the Billboard Hot 100, and should be considered one of their finest pieces of work!!!!

  • too much speech beb.........

  • proper mod tune

  • Scene Club .. Ham Yard.

  • I rememeber driving my parents crazy with this years ago. They thought if was the devils music staight from hell. I adored it. i still do. Thankfully i don't still live with my parents!

  • @derwent My mother used to yell, "Turn down that bumpety bump music !!"

  • Please put all the commentary in the notes and just play the tune!

  • Just shut the fuck up! if you dont like it dont watch it!

  • @MotownMaster LOL! Layin down the law!

  • @MotownMaster Thanks Master. Always a rotten one in the bunch. No appreciation for the journey of others. Thanks Master for the history notes and thank you for all you've done and will continue to do. I appreciate you for you.

  • Jackass...be thankful for the post and shut your dumb mouth. What an idiot. MAYBE if you listen, you'll learn something.

Thanks for the post M'Master...one of my fav Marvelette tunes. Awesome...

  • I was about 8 years old when this came out, and the teens next door had a party and wore this one out. I used to play this all the time as a kid. I just love the whole vibe of this song, the energy, the drive, that drum back beat, the bass and strange horn lines everything....

  • "the strange horn lines" YES! I've always loved this song and one of the things about it that I find so intriguing is that horn arrangement. They sound so ominous and menacing- in fact, they remind me of one of those old black and white gangster movies that keep you on edge throughout. This is one of the BEST all-time Marvelettes and Motown songs ever!

  • This is my favorite Motown song of all time. I have worn my copy out. I still play it from time to time. It's so different than anything the girls have done. Even though it went to # 34 billboard charts, it got plenty of play in the neighborhoods.

  • top tune great fav dancing record in the northern circuit

  • You are awesome MotownMaster. You should love yourself, because I do.

  • God i wish there was a TV performance of this song, but the Marvelettes didnt do too much tv

  • Nice Promo Copy!

  • This song is a big favorite on the Northern Soul scene in the UK.

  • Big with Mods too....

  • Love your videos but could you use a TT with a pitch control? That record was flyin'.

  • MotownMaster...thank you...I've wanted to hear this song for the longest. I agree, the chord changes are brilliant and she handled it !! Smokey Robinson wrote & produced most of their material.

  • Yeah but this one is Mickey Stevenson and Ivy Hunter

  • I loved all the songs Wanda sang lead on.....The Hunter Gets Captured by the Game, Here I Am Baby, Don't Mess w/ Bill and When You're Young In Love. And Gladys Horton had a dynamic voice, and a beautiful heart to go with it. You can hear her blowing on the backgrounds -- lika' champion.

  • I used to LOVE this song....yes, Wanda sang lead on this one. It has a kinda' Martha & Vandellas flava. I've always felt that Wanda's voice was a cross between Diana & Martha Reeves. She had that Martha swing and Diana suavy ring.

  • The back up voices do not sound like the marvelletes. could it be the voices of the andantes?

  • Sing it, Wanda!!

  • Theres a play out about the Marvelettes now, called "Now That I Can Dance". Look for it!

    diane

  • This is a treasure. I was not aware that it charted so well---it should have been pushed more. Superb performance by the ladies.

  • Is that the Tamla white label using the overlapping globe & record or is it the original copy with donut/globe on the yellow label?

  • It has to be a promo of the yellow Tamla "Globe" label

The Tamla white label was probably only used for albums.

  • and the Detroit Cobras too.

  • Thanks!

At last, I can hear the original Tamla version!

There's a great cover of this song by the Action, a mod british band that was produced by George Martin.

    Greetings!

  • My absolute favourite marvelettes - and Motown - song of all time! so much energy in it; great vocals and arrangement. i play it all the time and never get tired. love it when she sings 'every day' in the first verse. beautiful.

  • This song went to 11 R&B and 35 pop on the charts in 1965.
