I just had my !st 1 woman art show Mar. 1,'11 and I sang this song! I was so nervous that I sang part of this song and ended with Michael Jackson's Who's Loving You! lol But I had a great time and people enjoyed the show, especially the ambient music provided by an Iphone app,Thumbjam! Thanx for the posting; I never get tired of this song!
"I used to LOVE this song....yes, Wanda sang lead on this one. It has a kinda' Martha & Vandellas flava."

Yes -- this has very much the feel of "Nowhere To Run," which also came out in 1965 (was it before or after this?). One of Motown's many unrecognized gems.
@MotownMaster Is there a karaoke version of this song available? I 'm planning to do this as a "girl group"( me & a drawing of 2 back up singers) in my first 1- woman art show in March 2011. If not,I guess I'll have to sing louder than Wanda! ;-D
This has always been one of my favorites. Great for hand-dancing if you are in shape. The Marveletters were real popular in D.C. Too bad it was not nation-wide.
I wonder why this tune was not included on their Greatest Hits album?? It peaked at #34 on the Billboard Hot 100, and should be considered one of their finest pieces of work!!!!
I rememeber driving my parents crazy with this years ago. They thought if was the devils music staight from hell. I adored it. i still do. Thankfully i don't still live with my parents!
@MotownMaster Thanks Master. Always a rotten one in the bunch. No appreciation for the journey of others. Thanks Master for the history notes and thank you for all you've done and will continue to do. I appreciate you for you.
I was about 8 years old when this came out, and the teens next door had a party and wore this one out. I used to play this all the time as a kid. I just love the whole vibe of this song, the energy, the drive, that drum back beat, the bass and strange horn lines everything....
"the strange horn lines" YES! I've always loved this song and one of the things about it that I find so intriguing is that horn arrangement. They sound so ominous and menacing- in fact, they remind me of one of those old black and white gangster movies that keep you on edge throughout. This is one of the BEST all-time Marvelettes and Motown songs ever!
This is my favorite Motown song of all time. I have worn my copy out. I still play it from time to time. It's so different than anything the girls have done. Even though it went to # 34 billboard charts, it got plenty of play in the neighborhoods.
MotownMaster...thank you...I've wanted to hear this song for the longest. I agree, the chord changes are brilliant and she handled it !! Smokey Robinson wrote & produced most of their material.
I loved all the songs Wanda sang lead on.....The Hunter Gets Captured by the Game, Here I Am Baby, Don't Mess w/ Bill and When You're Young In Love. And Gladys Horton had a dynamic voice, and a beautiful heart to go with it. You can hear her blowing on the backgrounds -- lika' champion.
I used to LOVE this song....yes, Wanda sang lead on this one. It has a kinda' Martha & Vandellas flava. I've always felt that Wanda's voice was a cross between Diana & Martha Reeves. She had that Martha swing and Diana suavy ring.
My absolute favourite marvelettes - and Motown - song of all time! so much energy in it; great vocals and arrangement. i play it all the time and never get tired. love it when she sings 'every day' in the first verse. beautiful.

Is that the Tamla white label using the overlapping globe & record or is it the original copy with donut/globe on the yellow label?
HomeoftheGoodGuys 4 years ago
It has to be a promo of the yellow Tamla "Globe" label
The Tamla white label was probably only used for albums.

and the Detroit Cobras too.

Thanks!
At last, I can hear the original Tamla version!
There's a great cover of this song by the Action, a mod british band that was produced by George Martin.
Greetings!
