I loved the big flameout! Now that was something else! Poor alligator clips. Mine had the same fate. I haven't gotten any replacements yet, maybe i'll get some, then make use of the remaining SLA's I have to melt twist ties, paper clips and pins. Hmm, maybe even volt a few cockroaches too! (on video that is).
Thanks for the shout, Have you checked out kmart, they oftern have cheep florescent tubes for sale. I got some for my experiment but if it doesn't work I'll pop them.
I got two 33watt round tubes and a pack of 2 philips 18 watt tubes for $5
What's up with all of the hate against CFLs? Presumably you had a bad experience because you used some cheap Chinese crap or when they first came out; the ones I have right now emit light just like ordinary incandescent bulbs and have lasted FAR longer. Plus, since my electric power mostly comes from coal, a lot more mercury - far more than is in a CFL (which can also be recycled) is emitted to run an incandescent.
@ms63129 they have about much mercury as a can of tunafish ! its the crappy quality of most of these lights unless osram sylvania or philips , the chinese ones are garbo , rather just use LED lights and save even more money
@ms63129 none of the CFLs with a switchmode PSU inside last long. I've tried lots of them.. Osram, Philips.. you name it... none of them lasted more than a year or 1 and a half at best.
the only CFL i have which lasted (a lot) longer than that is a Philips SL18 (18W, 900lumen) with a conventional ballast in the base, dating from September 1985 (2 years older than i am!)
@lebeyes I was watching one of photonicinduction's videos the other day, and saw the carpet in *the* room. All I could think was, man, that carpet has had a rough life, but it's seen some awesome stuff!
@RODALCO2007 nch software's Videopad can do that with the Overlay feature. I recently tried that with a triangled vlog with three video streams. it was... nice! The software is free for AVI files and the paid version allows you to save in other video formats.
I LMAO'd so hard when that CFL lamp melted, fell over then broke loose and fell off the edge. TOO FUNNY! :-D
Thanks for showing,

@Kurtreidable Thanks for that tip Kurt.
I get my old lamps through work from the bin ( for free ) Gratis which is even better. I missed out last week when about 50 tubes were binned.
Got about 500 batteries waiting destruction. lot more work setting up with heavy cables, transformers etc.

I like the blackened bulb effect on the cfl
nodariel 4 months ago
You should try connecting the mot to the cfl leads with the pcb removed. It would probably light up and pop at 2kv.

haha! so much for the theory of "eco friendly CFL's" @ 1:01~1:22

@daewooparts haha! it even commits suicide too ! @1:24~1:31 , guess it couldn't take all the lies that CFL's claim to be for the enviorment !!!

In a few years (but may take a decade or three even) LED's (OLED's maybe?) will completely phase out CFL's and incands.

You should edit the ammeter closeup over top of the main camera, so it kinda runs more fluidly, without it being replayed.
thewii552 4 months ago 2
@thewii552 Yes that would be great, but I haven't got the editing software for it.
