Little miss lounge : Thank you a lot..merci beaucoup!!!!!! For sharing with us this wonderful stuff...ITs more than jazz..its sooo different..Just belong to yesterday and could fit today perfectly...So full of mystery..a true gate to other dimensions on music
What's that sound at :06? Did someone drop something in the studio? Any of you on this page who happened to have played on the original recording, please answer. And make it quick. Now, dammit, now!!!!!!!!
What's that, God? They're all dead? Oh, mmmK. Never mind.
Actually it was realesed in a record which I own its part of the whats new series that they realesed promoting Stereo! I have this same song it was realsed on the Lp called jungle Jazz so it has been around maybe not on a full length record but the song it self is on a record from capitol.
Referencing 3:00 - the phrase "Doompa Dompa" has been coined among my friends and myself as anything having to do with Exotica. Get the word out - call Mirriam Webster, Wikipedia. Doompa Dompa. It's an adjective.
Where is the second part from? Voodoo Dreams is from Jungle Jazz, but what about Voodoo. Can't find an original album with that - one where they chant Batumba..
If I remember correctly from the liner notes, "Voodoo" was never released and had been sitting around in the Capital vaults until the Ultra-Lounge folks cherry-picked it.
Great tracks, both. Plas Johnson's steamy entrance on "Voodoo Dreams" is just so awesome.
@adkfisher True, but another commenter pointed out it was never released until it appeared on an 'Ultra Lounge' disc in 1996. It could well have been recorded sometime 1955-1960. I do take some latitude with my lists for every year back to 1900. This song would have only entered public perception upon its release in 1996.

It's more than Jazz, it's very exotic. Les Baxter is a legend. If only more people knew who he was.
