  • If He was a dad, his two sons would be Steve Nash and Ricky Rubio.

  • Actually he had 2 sons :D

  • 2:00 how the fuck he do that ??

  • if your serbian than yes your white now people stop being racist just because he is white doesnt mean he sucks in basketball .....come on now name me one player that averaged 57 points per game. Also he is not the only white player that can play basketball just look at VLADE DIVAC, BODIROGA,LARRY BIRD, and etc.

  • Pistol was the baddest white player I ever saw and that includes LARRY BIRD

  • whose fucking retarded idea was that to put the number on the screen

  • #7 travel, dragged his back foot

  • he studied in nc

  • If Pistol Pete had teammates like Jordan's during the Jordan era, we would be talking about the Maravich era by now! =)))

  • i think i pooped my pants after watching number 2

  • Can't wait for 2K12 !!

  • 0:47, rule #1: never break pete's ankles

  • Best passer EVER. Better than Magic OR LaBron. No debate

  • @noetol whoever debates about lebron being a better passer than pete or magic is mentally retarded

  • @noetol Well Nash & Stockton were better passers than those guys too. Magic was 6'9" tall -- AND yes a great passer - but Magic had a much more open floor, because he could kill you in so many ways.

And LaBron.... he needs to give up his game 100% and go beg Bill Russell to teach him how to play team Basketball not "look at how good I am".

If LeBron does not change, he will be like Wilt... All stats...

  • @ReformBarackObama Beg Bill Russell to teach him how to play team basketball? LeBron's already a team player! How come he leads his team in assists if he's not? LMAO

  • @jan279 Lebron is far from a team player. He leads in assists because they stop him coming down the lane he has to give it up to the more talented players. His outside shot is not that good, and he knows it so he gives up the ball for the assist. I LOVE to see Lebron drive down the lane and finish, but he is NOT ABLE to do this like he used to so he gives up the ball to his teammates. He doesn't want to give the ball up he just has to, where a true team player is always looking for the pass.

  • Comment removed

  • @jan279 Like I said I like Lebron but he is a selfish player. Everyone knows this, even the idiots on ESPN say it. He hates the fact that he has to give up the ball. He would rather be the attention than "passing" it on to someone else. And we are still talking about this on a Pistol Pete video? That starting to disgust me now seeing Lebron will never be that good. Sorry Pete.

  • @TheAcrylicAvenger Okay, that's your opinion but still, it doesn't cover up for the truth. You really think basketball analysts would call LeBron a point forward if he's such a selfish player?! I'll say this again: The reason why LeBron still dishes out something like 7 assists while scoring more than 25 points every game is not his way to cover his selfishness, he just has a high basketball I.Q.!

  • @jan279 If you want a stat to prove selfishness and bad I.Q. then just go to last year's stats and tell me where Lebron is on the list for TURNOVERS. If you do look you won't have to look far because he is number 2. There is only one player in the whole NBA that has turned the ball over more than him. Ask a coach if they think turnovers are important...LOL They would probably say it's not to smart to have turnovers. If he has that many points, and assists, AND #2 for turnovers, sounds selfish.

  • RONDO at 1:00 now i know where it came from

  • Pistol Pete was cousier than Cousy, magic before Magic and was #23 before MJ and LeBron. Pistol averaged 44 points a game in college one year and this was BEFORE the three point arc.

    M.K.

  • @the215renaissanceman he averaged 44 throughout his college career!

  • @tigerbait134 That's right. I stand corrected. M.k

  • He was way ahead of his time with skillls.

  • he acted black before there was black.....and he is white!

  • @StJtproducers my sources tell me that black existed before pete maravich

  • jimmer owns pistol pete

  • @rbeckkk jimmer doesnt make 40 foot shots as there layups and he doesnt average 44 points a game.

and jimmer will SUCK in NBA he has no defense

  • @rbeckkk Oh dear God, did you really just say that?

  • @WordFlyer haha im just playin. i am indeed a big jimmer fan, but no, i do not actually think jimmer is better than pistol pete. i think anyone with true knowledge of the game of basketball knows that maravich is one of the greatest players to ever live.

  • LSU coach Dale Brown watched the tapes and calculated that if there had been a 3 point line, Pistol would have averaged 13 3's a game and 57 FREEKING POINTS a game over his college career. Pete is the most talented player to ever play. Not the most athletic, but he could do more things great than anybody ever has. That includes Jordan and every one else. What keeps him from being the best ever is no rings cause he played on bad teams, and getting hurt a lot cut his time short

  • wow.....this guy started every thing stylish in basketball

  • @13araku Bob Cousy had a little mustard too, but when Pistol came he took it to the freeking stratosphere. Damn shame he never played on any great teams. If he would have held on one more year he could have gotten a ring with the Celtics in '81. He retired before that season...

  • seriously this man is one of the top PGs to ever play the game... look at the highlights he was making full court under handed passes and they were dropping on a dime to the player...

  • kinda reminds me of rondo but 10 times better

  • @MyDamnYTChannel how the fuck does he remind you of rondo?

  • pg pistol

    sg jordan

    sf bird

    pf kg

    c chamberlin

    beat that lineup!

  • Comment removed

  • @BgTiket21 impossible

  • @BgTiket21 Switch KG with Malone, and it's perfect. John Stockton and Pistol can split time.

  • pistol pete is the greatest. I would love to bring him back to life and watch him set more records. I would love to see him ball up todays game. It doesnt get better than pistol pete

  • watching pistol pete doesn't make me want to learn to play like him as much as it makes me wish I had played with him, I can only imagine some of the crazy assists I would get

  • I've got a spreadsheet that ranks NBA players and it's fairly extensive with most of the star players and all the guys from the 50s up through the 70s. After careful consideration Pistol Pete is about the only guy I can think of would probably be better in today's game than in the era he played in. He's ranked #25 on my spread sheet but if he had played with a 3 point line and had better teammates he could easily be in the top 5.

  • Pistol Pete? He was a slow white stiff and he sucked.

  • @TerrorWarrior5000 And you are a jealous racist, and would get your ass beat by him in every single game.

  • @Jaboie LOL WIN!

  • @TerrorWarrior5000 you a black nigga and you suck on african cocks

  • @TerrorWarrior5000 TerrorWarrior? He's just a slow-minded racist that couldn't hold Pistol's jock strap. Yet another priceless YouTube troll. These people need to grow up and get a life. Geez...

  • #7 now i see where rondo gets it

  • loved this tube

pistol was a perfect nick for the dude

one other thing was a cat named ernie digregorio (sp) played in the 70s

for providence only cat comparable to maravich my opin

saw him make a 2/3 court behind the back pass to a teamamte for the layup

digregorio fouled out of his last ncaa tourney game - 5 offensive charges

    thnx for the tube

  • @JustAintthatWay I remember him. He was a little dude that was a machine in college. Then he kinda hit the wall in the pros. Not to argue, but to me, Ernie was great, just not Pistol Pete great...

  • MICHAEL WHO ?

  • @eb641 Jordan is probably the name you're looking for.

  • #2 was the best play

  • can see wer rondo got his moves from..shud be called the pistol..

  • @datuboa

No he shouldn't. You don't give a guy someone else's nickname, unless you make a subordinate version of it, like calling him Little Pistol.

  • This Serb stuff is atrocious. His grandfather came over. My GF came from France, but I am not a French American. People want to lay claim to him, but Pete was really ALLLL American in more ways than one.

What a talent. Thanks for the video Diegoris.

  • @sneakypete971 You right in a way, but don't forget that Pete Maravich as a teen played in the SNF (Serb National Federation) basketball tournaments and that his first nickname was the "Serb". His famous nickname "Pistol" was given to him during his high school years.

  • Boy his teammates had to be ready.

  • @jaegerhund think of all the sick uncompleted plays he must of had because of his court awareness being higher than everyone elses

  • @Kobeownzu81 I hear you. He probably at times was a victim of his own talent/skill.

  • This is just simply amazing!

  • HE WAS SERB AMERICAN BORN!

  • Thanks for posting. And yes, cool jazz a great music choice.

  • Before Rubio, Before Nash, Before Jason Kidd, Before Magic Johnson, Before BIRD, there's was PISTOL PETE! Simply AMAZIN!!!

  • "Classic"

  • who and what music was that in the background because it's great!

  • @iseely Hush by deep purple

  • Perfect Music !

  • Absolutely fabulous player. Who cares how many championships his teams won, etc? A genius who was above mere winning and losing. When he and Calvin Murphy {Niagara} and Rick Mount {Purdue} were all playing college basketball it was a very exciting time. RIP Pistol.

  • In the ESPN hour long Maravich bio, some NBA players said they didn't like playing with Maravich because very often, as in #6, they couldn't see or even anticipate the pass coming, resulting in a turnover.

  • @76CHRYSLERCORDOBA But they eventually learned to play with him and watch for those passes. He was "SHOWTIME" before Magic Johnson came along.

  • Yeah Pistol is a great player, but unlike Kobe he has great TEAMWORK also

  • simply one of the best european players of all time...

  • @pizhubluv95 european?

  • @flooaweeb What part of Europe?? He was American!!!

  • @Nickcat5 HE WAS SERB AMERICAN BORN!

  • @pizhubluv95 HE WAS SERB-AMERICAN. He was born in USA.

At that time Europe had o players to compare with Americans. Europe developed basketball to American level only 15 - 20 years ago.

  • @kozjevime1 more like they developed it like 10 years ago. i wouldnt really consider them playing on america's level until the late 90s early 2000s

  • steve nash in short shorts

  • @PKVCMOSS No.Pete Maravich in short-shorts! He was First!

  • Way ahead of his time. He was a magician with a basketball. I remember him as a kid. His teammates probably had to be choreographed to expect anything in practices and he played for a horrible team. Never would have believed he died from a heart disability he had from birth watching him play.

  • PISTOL..........

  • lol he throws some passes and your like "wtf?" and they end up being perfect

  • Pistol Pete was amazing.

  • Congratulations! That is the most ignorant, inane, and just plain wrong youtube comment I've ever heard!

  • Hey Kunnen its because of what he did in his youth is the reason you see it now in the NBA,but I must admit he struggled in his early years because he was playing against black players who did those same school yard moves he used in his playing days as a collegian but once he became aclimated to knowing what he could get away with and what he couldn't he became SHOWTIME before a 6-9 point guard named Earvin "Magic"Johnson.

  • #10: whoah! a layup!

  • all time greatest

  • i think his style is more similar to jason williams' than nash's.

  • @Casperthedopestghost Dont you mean jason wiliams style is more similiar to pistols than Nash's.

  • Fuck your time-based causal chain!

lol yes, thats what i meant

  • pistol pete is one of the many forgotten legends, yet one of the best

  • Hey Woody put this date in your memory bank.1-5-88 it was the 22nd anniversary of his untimely death.

  • Pretty impressive that, while everyone else was fooled on the no-look pass in #6, Jerry West read the play, jumped the lane, and almost got the steal.

  • You also have got to conclude that Pete "Pistol" Maravich was much bigger then Steve Nash. That is proof that he would also be successful today. I mean Pete was 6'5 which is big if you ask me for a point guard!

  • People like too compare Steve Nash to Pete "Pistol" Maravich but even though I love Steve Nash. Pete Maravich was something special which we are unlikely to ever see again. Legendary!

  • steve nash's playing style reminds me alot of pete's .. both of them are great

  • Too bad his best moments weren't filmed as much. his college days, man oh man.

  • A lot of Pete's stuff doesn't look highlight reel worthy nowadays, simply because he made them commonplace and introduced them to the game. Those underhand outlet passes still boggle my mind though.

  • isn't number 7 supposed to be a travel since he slid?

  • if thats the case then shaq wouldve have been called every time back in in his prime years

  • Play nr 4 was definitely the best. The layup from behind the backboard and then the gentle roll in. A thing of beauty

  • Pistol Pete was the GREATEST GUARD TO EVER PLAY THE GAME !!!.....Notice he didnt travel ...double dribble....guessed ....He knew all those plays would work and that he could do them ..in these days of thug basketball ..ME LOOK AT ME ..notice how many times he threw the ball to someone else ...to quote an old basketball coach of some prominence ...Michael Jordan couldnt have carried Pete Maravich's jock strap ....Was Pete a Winner ?? Yes with fans ...no support players around him much ..THE BEST

  • Gregory you can include Larry Bird as well people think he was the only white basketball player to have a impact on the NBA no way he couldn't carry Pete's jock strap as well.

  • Pete played with larry bird,ml carr, tiny archibald, don chaney, dave cowens, chris ford, gerald henderson, cedrick maxwell, ric robey, in the 1980 celtics that went to the eastern finals.......

  • what song is this called

  • Finally someone has the smarts and judgment to use the RIGHT MUSIC. Pistol can only be expressed by rich, perk, improvisational jazz. The mastery of form mixed with the brio and confidence to freely let the play develop.

    Bravo!

  • I totally disagree. The skill level was better then, i.e ball control and shooting etc. Today brute physical ability is more prized such as vertical leap, 100 foot sprint times etc. and the skills of passing and dribbling are NOT what they once were.

  • I hope your not serious. The superstars of today, if they played back in the day, would put up Wilt numbers. It wouldn't even be fair. The competition today is so much more vast its unreal. Players like eric snow would be considered a good player while today hes garbage.

  • why make that statement MS? who cares? no one knows if p.p. mavavich could play in 2day's nba. could muhammed ali win the heavyweight title 2day? could babe ruth hit a major league splitter 2day? could gayle sayers evade a tackler 2day? who knows & who cares. appreciate the skill & beauty of their accomplishments & stop making frivilous comments.

  • he and bob cousy are ahead of their time. simply awesome

  • You can add Marcus Haynes to this list as well he wasn't called the greatest dribbler of all time for nothing!!!!!!!!!!

  • My first two years at LSU were Pete's last two and he was awesome as a shooter and passer. Years ahead of his time.

  • did you play basketball at lsu

  • No, I just watched from the student section in the old Cow Palace. But I remember the game he broke Oscar Robertson's scoring record. We arrived before the freshman game (freshman wer not eligible in those years) and I sat in the aisle as all the seats were occupied.

  • #2 shouldve been #1 yomama? youd pay to see lew alcindor jump hook ur team to death? wat about tiny archibald?connie hawkins?the pearl?hakeem olajuwon?

  • 0:57 Rajon Rondo does that, too.

probably got it from Maravich :)

  • or maybe since rondo has freakishly large hands he just thought of doing it.

  • Wrong wrong wrong ... easily # 4 should have been #1.

  • Yes Pistol Pete Maravich could dunk a basketball. He was one of the greatest showman ever in Basketball one of ten players you would PAY to see play the game of Basketball..The others are....

    Julius Erving,Wilt The Stilt Chamberlain,David Thompson,Michael Jordan,lew Alcindor,Larry Bird,Len Bias,Kobe Bryant,Shaq and lebron james.

  • dr.j used to play with pete in old days. he use to make basketball clinic videos with pete, coach reds aurbach. alot of moves pete got from doc too.

  • Ouch @ Bias

  • Except for no. 3, these all look like clips from Pete's rookie season - which was considered a disappointment because he "only" averaged 23.2 ppg and was beaten out for ROY by Geoff Petrie and Dave Cowens (Petrie averaged 24 ppg and was another great shooter whose career was cut short by injuries.) In a lot of those clips Pete is feeding Walt Bellamy ("Bells") for easy dunks.

  • metube1515: but, did you see these moves everyday in 1975? What, you weren't around in 1975? Then quit with the disses.

  • Yes invented by Pistol only he shoots way better then the kids today do, that's for sure even European players can beat U.S. players today, now that's LMAO!!!

  • but there are more better usa players than euro players, theres only a hand full of good euro players that you can count on one hand

  • not tru, there a lots of good euro players many dont play in the fake nba league

  • Yeah but they don't play together as well.

  • HE MAKES FASTBREAKS LOOK LIKE CHILDS PLAY!

    Pete= The Best

  • @1:38 didnt larry bird do that move on the rockets n the finals they show it on all his highlights pete was 2 ahead of his time.lol

  • i wouldlove 4 iverson, chris paul pistol pete, isiah thoms 2 b my guards oh man.he was 2 ahead of his time.i was lil when he faded out but this cat n isiah had the best handles i've seen n chis paul then iverson.n imma say 4 a white dude this cat had 2 get them brothas mad ass hell

  • he is just a daddy

do you know who is the player of the nba simbol

  • the nba symbol is Jerry West

  • what! he was going behind the vackboard before dr j he was dream shaking before hakkem olajuwon

  • vantalage you need to shut up he,s not a ballhog. get your facts right before posting

  • Pete was actually a ballhog in college. He shot more than 40 shots on most nights. Don't tell me thats not shooting a lot

  • @IamWonderBread

LSU was 3-20 the year before he joined the varsity... guess they didn't mind having someone who could put the ball in the hoop!

  • he makes everything look SO easy. it's amazing!

  • Did Pete ever dunk? I don't recall that he ever did.

  • I believe that dunking was illegal at that time.

  • DFM 1981

I know dunking was illegal for awhile in college during the Lew Alcindor years but most of this video was about Pete's NBA career.

  • the shot at 1:34 is just SWEET!!!!

  • i dont know what you re saying.. but it seems to me he did a deal in making basketball the fast, awareness demanding sport it is today.. i dont think his play mates could understand what he was doing... though i have never seen him play. im too young

  • And this is a public discussion board, just because my views are different from the majority doesn't mean I can't post here. And you should reread the last part of your last sentence. "no one here you whine so shut the fuck up" Its enough that you stoop to such a low level and seek to insult, but at least you could word the insult properly.

  • nba50stars1, you have a 1st Amendment Right under the Constitution of the United States of America to speak your mind.

I applaud your stand my friend.

  • #7 was just sick!

  • Hey pureawfulness, you can get a RING while warming the bench. You are on the wrong Blog!!

  • Comment removed

  • Over 44 points per game average in college and no 3-point line. AMAZING!!!. Call him all the names you feel you have to, but GREAT is one name, unless you are deaf, dumb and blind, you can't leave out!!!

  • I agree he was great in college, but he was (very) overrated in the NBA. His FG%s were ordianary and he commited a TON of turnovers. Overall his NBA career was above average, he's about as good as say Rip Hamilton.

  • ok then, you try to to have a great career with teammates that freeze you out of plays in Atlanta , coaches that bench you for playing different styles of basketball and injuries nearly every year. In fact the only year you saw his real standards were 76-77 when he finally had a good coach and no injuries, and even after that he recieved an injury that resulted in the downward spiral of his career, and a heart difunct so one side of his heart didnt work,so yeah i would like to Rip do that

  • your stats are CLEARLY wrong. In Atlanta he averaged 20 shots a game and averaged over 35 minutes per game. I dont understand how you can say things like "teammates freeze you out of plays in Atlanta" and "coaches that bench you for different playing styles".

I will admit he had a short nba career ridden by injuries, but even when he was healthy he was very inconsistent.

  • if you read the biography Maravich you will realise you are wrong.Becasue he was the highest payed athlete at thetime his teammates dispised him for it, one time pete even said something like" i needa pair of gloves cause their freezing me out of plays, and then in his first year at jazz he had coach fitsimons, who played eastern basketball of hitting the open man, whereas pete played a runandgun fastbreak style, resulting in pete benched for long periods of time, so your stats are CLEARLY wrong

  • Youtube doesnt allow you to post links but you can google: Maravich Basketball reference.

About the coach. His stats hardly changed when he left atlanta. In fact they got very slightly worse. That tells me the coach had hardly any impact on his game whatsoever.

I dont know much about him being frozen on plays, but he had a ridiculous amount of FG attempts. And he had really high usage rates. Men lie, women lie, but stats...stats never lie.

  • the thing is he was getting so pissed off with his team mates pretty much ignoring him then if he "did" get the ball the only way he could score would be to shoot, his team mates wouldnt help him. I suggest you read the biography about him, Maravich, its a great book and it will help realise why Maravich could never really play at his best. Beside I think Pete wanted to be remembered as a Christian instead of a basketball player, he finally found happiness in God in those last years of his life

  • "the thing is he was getting so pissed off with his team mates pretty much ignoring him then if he "did" get the ball the only way he could score would be to shoot, his team mates wouldnt help him."

so basically you are just making shit up as you go along. Not only is that a baseless claim, it actually implies Maravich cared more about his own PPG than helping his team win.

Basketball players are judged by what they do on the court not by their religious beliefs. u should look at his stats

  • A: I didnt say hewnated to shoot it was hypothetcial,

B:I back my statements with evidense from the book,(like i said read it its a good book)so screw you

C:I didnt say we should judge him from his religous beliefs as a basketball player, i merely said what pete himself said "I want to be remembered as a christian not as a basketball player" and thats how ill remember him

D:Pete might not have won a title but he himself said"stats are for losers",(take the hint)
