  • I never tire of watching him. He is mesmerizing. He is PURE MAGIC. That is all I have to say.

  • it says -1.4C in the video. Is he really warming up in a room that's below freezing? Doesn't that defeat the purpose? What his reason for that?

  • @brassmonkeyjew I'm not the original uploader, but I think the TV network just put the temperature over the actual film. It's from the film 'Dancers', as does the clip "Alessandra Ferri and Mikhail Baryshnikov - Giselle second act II pas de deux" on YouTube. You will see him performing these steps on stage.

  • @brassmonkeyjew the 5th channel just shows the temperature in St. Petersburg the day this film was shown.

  • @brassmonkeyjew I think that is the temp outside. You would see breath I believe. How does he continue to be awesome?

  • @brassmonkeyjew That's not the temperature in the room, it has absolutely nothing to do with the video,, that is the temperature in the city that the channel's being broadcasted from, Moscow I presume.

  • @brassmonkeyjew You`d be russian then You could understand the reason;)

  • Where does this footage come from? Is it part of a film, documentary or what? Speechless and in awe. Always loved him and still do.

  • @TheOmlink It's from the film "Dancers".

  • Obviously the one person who disliked this missed the thumbs up...

  • wtf who warms up like this? i dont!!! im at the barre lol

  • He is wearing leather ballet flats and he is also wearing weights, this is how he trains his muscles for stamina and strength. He doesn't defy gravity people, it's like saying he hasn't worked his ass off to do what he does. It's like saying the pyramids were built by aliens bc it's impossible that our ancient human civilizations could. It's insulting. He was put down for years for being short & too muscular. He used that to his advantage & showed them what he really is made of, ALL muscle!

  • @AshlynnBall "He doesn't defy gravity people, it's like saying he hasn't worked his ass off to do what he does."

I know that but dancers train that hard to give the illusion of effortlessness during a performance. Saying he defies gravity is meant as a compliment.

  • @vanjara you may mean it that way, but as a classically trained dancer who is only 5'0" & really thick legged & jumps higher than most 5'5" girls, I know the adversity he has been through & it is insulting to him to say that he isn't human. The things this man has overcome & gone through to have someone who has no idea about what a dancer's life entails, the struggles, the pain, the sacrafices, to have people say something like "oh, he just isn't human" instead of attributing it to his prowress

  • @AshlynnBall I admire your passion for ballet. I'm a more even tempered person and like you, I love ballet too. Baryshnikov is one of my favourite dancers, he's charismatic with great musicality and I do understand what a dancer's life entails. The best compliment I can give a dancer is: "You let me forget the world for two hours and you made it look effortless". I put up this video because during a performance you don't hear the heavy breathing and sounds of exertion because of the music.

  • @AshlynnBall I think it's ridiculous to brow beat someone for paying someone a compliment.Ballet in particular is suppose to convey wonderment and disbelief, that was the whole purpose of this dance genre to appear unearthly.I also think it's ignorant to expect someone to understand what you go through as a dancer. It's not the audience's job to have to limit their reaction because it may insult the artist. You should be a little more grateful instead of so defensive.

  • @vanjara Well, needless to say that pisses me off, instead of just saying how awesome he really is or how amazing or how much he has put into his abilities, my first statement applies and regardless of what you think, it is still insulting... He has been denied credit for his abilities his whole life. Im not saying he isn't a singularity, I'm saying who are you to deny him his credit for his feats! Give it where it is due instead of brushing it off to some "Super Human" powers!?! Show respect!

  • @AshlynnBall HE DEFIES GRAVITY!

  • @AshlynnBall , those are not weights. he wears knee supporters, since he had multiple injuries in his knees and knee surgeries ( 7 knee surgeries as far as I recall) . he is amazing jumper and his control of the body is perfect even after all those injuries and age.

ballet is a very tough art, although very beautiful ...

  • @AshlynnBall Those aren't weights...

  • I know his secret!!! HES WEARING SPECIAL DANCING SHOES!!

  • He had a very long active dancing career!

  • Sexy! But my feet hurts just by watching this :|

  • @LordDavid6 So do mine

  • I love pausing the video when he's in mid jump(:

  • How does he jump that high? Doesn't seem possible!! Then again everything he does doesn't seem possible.

  • @faith022008 "How does he jump that high? Doesn't seem possible!! Then again everything he does doesn't seem possible."

Newton's Law of Gravity doesn't seem to apply to him. ;)

  • What sort of shoes is he wearing? Leather?

  • @Chiswick2 Really don't know but if I would have to guess I'd say leather.

  • Is it -1 degrees in the room or that just a weather forecast?

  • Love him !

  • AAaaahhh! Freakin' six pirouettes like it was nothing. Baryshnikov is awesome.

  • If this is warm up, how is he when he gets down to actually doing stuff? How high can he jump?

  • Yep "Dancers" -Misha is the best part of this film :)

  • which film part of this?

  • @noem1977 I am not really sure, but I think it's from the film "Dancers" (1987).

  • @vanjara Thanks. You're right

  • @vanjara To think that he was already thirty nine years old at the time, and still moving like this. Just phenomenal.

  • 1:28 - ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME?!!!

  • @rubyred0039 It is is, isn't?!

If you'd like to see more of his amazing jumps, you should look up "Mikhail Baryshnikov - Don Quixote " here on YouTube.

Also watch how he drops the cups on cue with the last note.

  • @rubyred0039 that's what i said, super human stuff

  • @rubyred0039 Hahahaa.... that's what I said... lol
