It's not as bad as it seems. They aren't going to run the machine on maximum power AT FIRST. Low speed collisions will take place first and they COULD create very small black holes, almost sub-atomic in size, but these will die off rather quickly. Nevertheless, the risk is there and the possibilities are endless...I hope these scientists know what they are doing....

"Maybe" is not science, that's religion :-) probability of black holes gateway is zero. Black hole is not worm hole, so it will break your body down to particles, than you could see event horizon and than nothing. You will be part of heavy body or you will be radiated to the space and diffuse.

It's not as bad as it seems. They aren't going to run the machine on maximum power AT FIRST. Low speed collisions will take place first and they COULD create very small black holes, almost sub-atomic in size, but these will die off rather quickly. Nevertheless, the risk is there and the possibilities are endless...I hope these scientists know what they are doing....

"Maybe" is not science, that's religion :-) probability of black holes gateway is zero. Black hole is not worm hole, so it will break your body down to particles, than you could see event horizon and than nothing. You will be part of heavy body or you will be radiated to the space and diffuse.

There are older theories that black holes function in a way similar to how wormholes are now said to operate. Essentially, it was because the energy consumed by the blackhole needed somewhere to go. Making them like a rip or sinkhole through space time. Leading to parallel planes. It's true we wouldn't likely survive to know. But that doesn't mean the energy doesn't go somewhere. =)

i believe that other stars and planets in other galaxies didn't survive because of a black hole consumed them..some galaxies disappeared because it had massive black holes..thanks that our milky way doesn't have a big black hole...people in other galaxies experienced how they're being sucked at the last day of their lives by a black hole..they said "this is the end" thanks that our region is somewhat peaceful than other galaxies that's why our solar system is still here in the universe.

when a star has 8 sunmasses,then it is able to collaps, it builds a supernova.
When the rest which remains is more than 2.5 sunmasses, it gets a black hole.
A black hole with the mass of our earth would have a event horizon of 9 mm around its center.Out of this event horizon ,there is no difference between a black hole and an ordinary star. 9mm is not much influence,and it would just get that powerful, if it had destroyed the whole earth.

your right, stars are created out of dust, but they do not necessarily get dust again,or atleast not all of it. when a sun collapses there is a supernova which throws matter out in space and this maybe builds a new sun.

actually the particles are expected to create tons of blackholes, but they will be so small that they'll just vaporize instantly, so it won't be possible for a black hole to actually stabilize, but it will create black holes.

As for the LHC, it's unlikely to end the world. It was mostly just media hype, thats why they haven't made such a big thing now about it being out of commision untill next year.

This is really scary. The object is to simulate a time period so soon after the Big Bang that dark matter and energy appear from nowhere. Could be black holes, could be something else.
Glad they pulled the plug on the last minute (magnet problems, helium leak) for at least two months, hope they don't start that device even after that.
