  • Honestly, Jekyll is where The Hoff falters, and his "Transformation" is terrible, but he nails most everything to do with Hyde. This scene, "Sympathy, Tenderness (reprise)", and "Confrontation" being highlights.

  • He isn't the best Hyde (That title belongs to Anthony Warlow)

But he certainly isn't the worst Hyde

(That title belongs to Ryan Elmendorf)

  • is he the BEST Jekyll/Hyde? no.

is he a GOOD Jekyll/Hyde? yes

  • @subwayeatfresh45 We all have our own opinions you know. Gosh, babies these days.

  • I don't know why Hasselhoff gets so much shit....... well maybe a little for the transformation and the wedding finale........ In this version he does a good job at most of it...... His confrontation was good and alive's singing might not be the best but he has a good hyde talking voice and shows it well...... I think evans, warlow, cuccioli did better but have you seen the u.k's guy :( there can be worse singers ..... you've done good hasselhoff you've done good

  • people hate on the hoff, but i really enjoy his acting. as far as the "version" of hyde i prefer robert cuciolli, but for the way hasselhoff was playing the character he did extremely well

  • he's not the best. but i like it

  • As far as playing as Hyde goes, David Hasselhoff and Rob Evan look alike.

  • The Hassleof vids are the only decent ones on Youtube, other then the CD versions.

  • He may stink, but somehow, it's refreshing to hear him botch the song.

  • okay so the man who is the bishop who got killed is my father, and my father would come home every day complaining about how bad david was and how much of an asshole he was. Sorry Hasselhoff fans, but he was terrible. He is the reason why the show closed. Sebastian Bach on the other hand was outstanding and a charm to work with. They should have just kept him.

  • @XxThatsOfficialxX ur lying about the dude bein ur father.

  • @Broadwaypuppet you are actually wrong. why would you say that? His name is joel robertson and my names is sarah robertson. He is my father as he is sitting the the living room watching a movie as i type this. Like why would i lie about that? He was on broadway for 25 years and that was his last broadway show. So now you just look like an idiot.

  • @XxThatsOfficialxX how'd h elike Rob Evan?

  • @Broadwaypuppet He loved Rob Evan. He loved Cuccioli and Sebastian Bach too. Bach and my father got real close. But Hoff didn't know anything about stage and that just ticked a lot of people off.

  • @XxThatsOfficialxX Wait, he was there from the start just like George Meritt?!? ARESOME!!!

  • @Broadwaypuppet He wasn't there from the VERY beginning, but he was there a few months before Cuccioli left

  • @XxThatsOfficialxX That's very cool! I bet your dad has lots of interesting stories :-)

  • even though i don't rate the Hoff as Jekyll/Hyde that much, i wish that they'd release this DVD into the UK =[

  • I still love Warlow & Cuccioli's version way better than David's. But I must give him credit for Edward Hyde. He kinda needs to work on the Henry Jekyll role but he nailed Edward Hyde. He was my first viewing of Hyde so, yea.... *sigh*

  • ok to throw this out there the note he hits at the very end is an extremely high not, and very difficult, especially for someone with no singing background. Very good Hoff

  • who is the man that hyde kills in this scene?

  • @pmoguyperson Rupert the Bishop of Basingstoke I think

  • @scumblejack His Name is Basil in Most Productions But i Don't Know Why He Calls Him Rupert Unless They Changed It

  • @scumblejack ah yes but remember he's the 14th Bishop of Basingstoke my friend (:

  • who is the man that hyde kills in this scene?

  • what is the name of the ma hyde kills in tis song?

  • 3.07 is extreamly disturbing lol it's definetly different from the original so i give him credit for making it his own

  • I like when they film musicals like this, how they should. i HATE when they make a bullshit actual movie out of it like Hairspray.

  • @WildDragon2013 I agree 110 percent; he's probably one of my favorite singers of all time.

  • hahahaha...jekyllhoff....:) lol

  • Anyone else think the oil canister looks like a salad dressing dispenser?

  • im friends with the bishop =)

    Joel Robertson

  • Tell him I thoroughly enjoyed watching him get wrecked by David Hasselehoff. I mean that is the best way possible. Good Acting :)

  • PRIEST IS A PERV XD

  • This gives me the chills when i watched it. David has a quality that can do that. Hasselhoff's Hyde is awesome. :]

  • i enjoy this version but rob evan and robert cuchiolli are much better singers but hasselhoff does alot better evil voice voice for the acting as hyde. so it kind of evens it out.

  • I agree completley

  • yea plus he doesn't go to fast with the lines like the others do. it's like a cat stalking it's prey with the way he performs it.

  • WOW!! Your STUPID!!!!!

  • i got the chills,hasselhoff is amazing!

  • Awful...just Awful...i am actually shocked that his celebrity was able to get him that part....a part that requires such anger and passion...that was completly absent right there...i mean the hippacrite line was said so....effortlessly....sorry hoff but bad isnt the word.

  • i agree im dissapointed that a great role as this and he coudnt live and do it. u dont feel anything from him. u dont feel his anger and emmotion. this play is all about that.

  • definatly my favourite reprise performance. tho i like cuccilio better for alive and rob evan the best for confrontation

  • i think hasselhoff it's very good in this musical, but he was amazing in this song. It's Hasslehoffs best performance

  • I agree. Overall his performance in J&H was mediocre, but this is his best work in the whole show

  • In some cases - like this one - I prefer Hoff's performance because it seems less "dramatic" and more "natural" like he's too involved to really care how he acts.

Also, lol @ his face after he sets him on fire.

  • This was incredible! My favorite Alive Reprise.

  • This song is one of Hasslehoffs best performances. the rest of the songs were okay but he did this one the best

  • i think people need ot lay off. he's not the best. but this is the hardest role for males to play ever.

  • I saw the broadway vision 3 times with Linda Eder twice and this girl comes as close as possible. However does anyone know if there's a DVD available without Hessel(bad)? He ruins the entire scene when changing from Jekyll to Hyde.

  • Yes, there's a two disc set of "J&H" called "The Complete Work, Jekyll & Hyde, the gothic musical thriller", with 35 songs.

Anthony Warlow stars as both J&H, & he is MAGNIFICENT.:D

Anthony's performance totally BLOWS ME AWAY.:D

Go to the Library & see if it's there; & of course, don't forget eBay.:D

Sadly, there's only audio of him as J/H, although I've seen/heard him as The Phantom Of The Opera, & he was MAGNIFICENT.:):P:D

    Take Care Imissingbroadway,

    The Ph-ANT-om's Phriend Forever,

    Jaime.:D

  • Bummer, I forgot to mention that, of course, there is always YouTube too, where you can check Anthony out as J&H.:D

And do also check out his PHANTOM performance(s)too.:D

    Take Care all,

    The Ph-ANT-om's Phriend Forever,

    Jaime.:D

  • i agree with you point on his singing i can sing better than Hoff but his acting was pretty good.

  • What are you people talking about?! Hoff was great as Hyde! Hyde isent supposed to be "scary" per say, hes supposed to be evil, the scary thing seems to just come natural with most Hyde's. Hoff pulled this off good, he had that dark sense in his tone, movments, even his eyes. I prefer Rob Evans performance to Hoffs, but this was still a kick ass performance, and as to your comment about singing better then Hoff, wheres your records then?

  • @jack688 i agree! hyde is supposed to be evil and hes supposed to make u afraid and angry like with the priest, he was using sarcasm, but personally, i like hoff the best.

  • @queenofsingin99 I understand completely. Even though i still believe Rob better, i still love hoffs performance and respect your choice. The only reason i like rob better is his hyde character. I love his facial expressions with it, his lower lip seems to come out a bit, giving him the image of having a bigger jaw line, his voice changes signifigently, which i found davids was vary similer to his own. My only real problem with davids hyde was the voice change and facial expressions.

  • @jack688 true, rob seems more like the monsterish hyde, other than just a killer and a lucy lover... xD

  • Wow, one of the only scenes(minus the singing part) where Hasselhoff actually does well...

  • Agreed

  • cradle robbing priests can't hassle you if you're the hoff, or his godamn FIREBALLS!

  • This shows Hasslehoff can be a frightening as well as an amazing actor.

It is better than some of his past work.

  • I love warlows voice better than anybody who ever sang Jekyll and Hyde ( My Opinion)

  • Can someone explain the fire-thing??

  • I cannot do english well..

    But I will help you

the electronic candle is toward bishop..

    I hope you understood...

  • Second!

  • lol i love it. tho i agree that i like the emotion of Warlow. but he is good i like him. but i have a question, how did they do that fire?

  • There are most likely holes in the stage where the fire can erupt from.

  • Is the girl meant to be young? It would make more sense for the priest to be more- evil, vile and disgusting.

  • the girl is meant to be young, its like in sweeney todd with johanna and judge turpin. b/c the younger the girl the more of a scandel it is.

  • Ok. Thank you! :)

  • Good point, the Bishop is very much like Judge Turpin. You get brownie points for mentioning my all time favorite show btw ;)

  • I really love the ending flair, and his overall singing ability is wonderful, he nails the last note just as well as Warlow however his passion is uncomparable. Maybe he's just tried from acting as well as singing? ;)

  • Personally, I preffered Anthony Warlow's singing; really emotional. He seemed to be able to sing and speak with real emotion at EXACTLY THE SAME TIME. It was awesome.

But Hasselhoff looks suitably creepy here, and I love the way he intimidated the man befre beating him up. I would NOT like to meet him in a dark alley, which is exactly how Hyde is meant to be.

  • I couldn't have said it better myself.

  • Hysterically awful

  • And you are quite obviously closed-minded and immature. If you don't think he's a good singer, there are plenty of other ways to express it rather than making a fool of yourself.

  • yeah.. funny how some people seem to think that posting something like that actually has any effect on how us intelligent people think :P lolz

  • you suck, he is on broadway, and you then?

  • He PAID to be on Broadway. Let there be no error with this knowledge.

  • The Hoff was on Broawday because of his NAME, not his nonexistent talent.

  • Go the HOFF!!! Love it ....all of it!!!

  • Hasslehoff's Hyde is creepy-ish, but his singing is horrible, and he over-acts a LOT!! I like Rob Evan's version best as of yet. =D

  • hasselhoff is a great actor but not a great singer......i'd like to see anthony warlow or robert cuccioli, heck even rob evan

  • I prefer Cuccioli over Warlow. I definitely wasn't that impressed with Warlow's voice.

  • i know cuccioli always did it better

  • How do you pronounce the first dude's last name????

  • cu-cee-o-lee

  • Its actually "Cooch-e-oli"

  • He is such an awsom actor!!!!! His best role is in KIT LOL

  • Being flat doesn't mean it is the wrong note, it just won't have the same clearness as it would be if he wasn't trying so hard to get it out. This is what I've gotton from singing with my director a lot. It might not be right, but I'm just stating an opinion.

  • Being flat means you are singing the note too low... hence it being wrong.

  • If you listen closely at the end, you can almost distinctly hear Hasselhoff singing two pitches at the same time. And being a part of a Performing Arts Magnet school, I can recognize that Hasselhoff is pushing the last note from his throat and not his diaphragm. To avoid this problem, any time you sing a word with a strong 'I' sound, sing it instead as 'ah.'

  • I noticed that as well. Thank you for that bit of advice; it should definitely help me with the last note for this song.

  • Hasselhoff is so flat by the time he finishes the song. It was also very obvious that he wasn't hitting Rupert. But I like the 'coreography.'

  • I didn't notice any significantly off-pitch singing at the end except for the flair just before the blackout, and I'm pretty sure that was intended.

  • The reason you could tell he wasn't hitting Rupert is because the stage combat was designed for the stage and not cameras swooping all around him. The Sm or fight captain should of taken into consideration that it was being filmed that night.

  • I know that. I just like to point out obvious stuff. Since I was seeing it from a moving target, it was obviously clear how the choreography went, and I liked it. I can't go anywhere to see it performed on stage and see it from a static point of veiw. Movies are all I get of the musicals I love. I didn't even get to see Les Mis on stage before we did at my school. It would be nice to go out and see a show.

  • Hasselhoff is a great actor, but not as strong in the singing department as most other Jekyll/Hydes.

  • I agree

  • Where's Rob's alive reprise when you need it?

  • Obviously judging from your username, you don't need it.

  • One question;

Why would you watch this if you hate David?

And FYI, Hasselhoff made a great Hyde, if you ask me.

  • He does not! his singing and acting is unbelievably bad.

  • Bad acting?!

Maybe his Jekyll was a bit off, but his Hyde was PERFECT!I personally liked his singing.

But COME ON, HIS HYDE WAS AWESOME!

  • Oh come on how can you even say that?! his hyde wasn't even scary enough. Now if you want a awesome Hyde I'd look into Drew Sarich!

  • You have failed to answer my question.

If you hate David. Why watch him?

  • I did anwser one of your other questions: Anyway if I ever need a laugh this is what I go to.

  • Good for you!!! People bag the Hoff for his reputation but credit where it is due hey.... His acting, singing everything was AWESOME!!! I've seen it over 60 times...

  • I do like Hasselhoff's version, but I must say I do not feel his Hyde is "evil" enough. Watching this, I didn't really feel the emotion. Things weren't stressed in the music when they should have been.

Anyway, just my opinion. I love the ending, though. It was great. Still enjoying watching it over and over again :)

  • To be honest the people seem to like Hasselhoff. and he's good. He really is he's not as good a vocalist as Warlow, but Warlow has the voice of an angel....and a devil. Point is when you dont compare him to Warlow Hasslehoff is good in this role

  • anyone else noticed that Hoff's version of this is a couple notes lower than Warlow's version? good performance, but warlow is such a better vocalist

  • I have to say that my favorite vocal of Hyde is Warlow. What a voice, I feel in love with that voice. It's deep, and cruel, and powerful, and a bit seductive.

  • couldn't agree more! warlow is phenomenal as hyde

  • Hoff is so much better as Hyde than Jekyll. as jekyll he's okay but as hyde he's really good, as hyde he just looks naturally sinister.

  • didn't he sing its a dangerous game last year on America's got talent?

  • He did? You serious? Now, isn't that a tad bit contradicting? XD

  • I can't believe how Douchelhoff pulled this whole thing off.

  • Douchelhoff? Oh, You're bad!!!

  • Can anyone show how Warlow is. Because I can only hear his voice, but i cant find him playing.

  • He never performed live. He only recorded the CD

  • his voice was amazing though

  • its really not evil enough.....the acting is good, the singing, just doesn't compare to warlow though

  • true dat.

  • This is [one of the few scenes] where he really does well. Obviously, you can't expect him to match Cuccioli or Warlow in any way, but I think this scene, "The Way Back", and "Dangerous Game" are when he really shines.

  • thats because this and the way back both end on high no-vibrato notes that the hoff seems to do very well. I agree. In Dangerous Game hes just a total creeper. haha. which works!

  • wow, he was actually...great! i don't give the hoff enough credit!

  • Blew me away he first time I saw it and still does 60 plus times later...and only had the DVD for four weeks!!! Great

  • Was that guy on fire in the end?

  • Woah... O.O

That was a very scary Hyde...

  • I love how he did this song, but my beef with this scene? The special effects! The first time I saw this show, it was when it came to Louisville in 1999, and I remember it being a lot more realistic. I realize it's just a show, but really -- you'd think an on-Broadway production would have a better budget.

  • The Hoff did a suprisingly good job here. I still can't forgive him for ruining Confrontation though.

  • I think David did a great job. True, some things in his performance need a little work, but you have to admit that it was good.

  • well done to hasselhoff for his amazing potrayal of edward hyde is amazing

    pyscotic, scary nd brillant

his dr jekyll could be gr8 if he wrkd at it

  • This is really amusing. At first, I really liked his performance...and then he started to sing. Sorry, the Hoff just doesn't cut it for me. The original broadway version, you know, the cd? Much prefer that. It's such a chilling, gothic musical, and I just don't really think Hoffman is good enough.

  • I love his Edward Hyde. He needs to work on his Dr Jekyll though

  • It's like he stopped acting ten seconds before he started singing. Up until that point in the scene, he was doing fine, in my opinion. Not in the whole production up until this point, mind you, but in this scene.

I don't know, maybe I'm just pampered by Cuccioli's Alive reprise. xD

  • David is amazing. I loved his hyde. His jekyll needs a little more work. This was his dream to perform on broadway you know. I loved this song. Alive and his This Is The Moment. was aamzing.

  • Hasselhoff made a outstanding edward hyde.

but everything else was just ok.

  • oh yes it was a really good one good job david wow .....

  • I think this was one of his best scenes in the whole movie.

  • David's a joke. But as Hyde he wasn't too bad.

  • Well he certainly owns that high 'A' at the end.

  • I think he acts the role beautifully but his singing is defintley lacking...what irritates me is that this musical doesnt get good reviews, and I think its one of the best musicals out there...so timeless.

  • exactly!

  • his accent is hilarious!

  • Where can I get that awesome "Jekyll and Hyde" writing from??!! It's brill.

Not a fan of The Hoff but an impressive performance all the same.

  • The more i watch this i see that Hasslehoff did a great job with the part

  • No doubt his Hyde was acceptionally well done, but his Jekyll was a little less then desirable

  • I really love the way Hasselhoff plays !!

  • im gettin this on dvd even if i can onlee get it on region 1 (which is the case)

i can still play it on my pc

I think yoo cant judge the Jekyll/Hydes against eachother because they all add their own unique flair to the characters

    they're all brilliant!!!

  • ya have u seen the phantom of the opera on broadway that show uses more pyro effects than any other show ive seen

  • Yeah, I saw Phantom last June. Very impressive. I didn't get the chance to see Jekyll and Hyde live, sadly. Just the DVD.

  • im seeing young frankenstien in november and that promises to have even more pyro effects than phantom

  • i saw this but i do not remember that dude catchin on fire

  • Then you probably didn't see it on Broadway. Most can't afford the flame effect.

  • Not too shabby. That's actually a pretty solid performance.

  • I LOVE HASSELHOFF AS J&H. FAVORITE ONE! PLEASE GUYS GIVE THE MAN A CHANCE! What did the crazy lady in red, say to the little girl or boy?

  • Finally someone who understands.

  • Can someone write what Hyde actually says before he goes into song? I can understand bits and pieces, but when he talks really fast, I can't understand what he's saying. Thanks!

  • "Yes, your Grace. Yes I know EXACTLY who you are. Churchman and philantropist--friend to those in need. Particularlly of the female gender! *And years still tender!* Who does not know Rupert? Fourteenth BISHOP of Bazingstoke! Our fair city's most disgintushed, degenerate, obscene, corrupt, and melegnant hypocrite!"

  • He's okay... but I can't really enjoy his performance after hearing Anthony Warlow. His acting is good, but his singing doesn't have the power that Warlow has.

  • None of the Broadway singers do. Cuccioli, Evan, Hasselhoff... all of them were brilliant, but you don't get the same thrill and excitement from their performances after hearing Warlow.

  • everything after 2:20 was good to me

  • i dunno, with that hair, hasselhoff's hyde really looks like a monster

  • This is my favorite part of the show! Great specil effect at the end!

  • Yeah, Hasselhoff did ok here. He looks really good!!! but... Hyde needs something, well, better. He's pure evil for goodness sake (wait is that a pun?)

  • blimey that was actually quite good!!

  • Hm. I saw his confrontation and it was lacking something crucial to the Hyde character. However, this time he got it right. The problem here is that the part where he tackles the bishop seems too choreographed, too purposeful. Still, much better than his confrontation.

  • I dont think that he is as bad as everyone thinks. I liked this.

  • GO DAVID! YOUR GOOD AS HYDE!!

  • He is the best there ever was.

  • He's huge in Germany. just to let you all know that. weird. and in Japan. but not in america. odd.
