I have driven rental karts and thought they were fast, but then i tried my brothers 125 and its incredibly quick and hard to control, if you press the brakes too hard, you spin out because the back wheels lock, if you floor it out of corners, you spin out, the opposite of rental karts. If you get the opportunity to drive a 125 kart, do it its really fun (but you will crap yourself) :)

I race sprints and midgets. I also kart part time. They are very similar only karts drive on a road course and sprints drive on an oval. Both very quick, demand a lot of driver skill, and are very adjustable. Also the track is tight because its a time trial event, meaning one kart at a time.

I find it hilarious that when he makes a small mistake while having some fun during a karting demonstarion, that people immediately start saying he is overrated or crap. He was just having some fun, and that was an incredibly narrow track, as most kart tracks can fit 4 or 5 karts wide. Maybe you are just jealous, or uneducated to how hard these karts are to control (especially on this track)? Take it easy people, even Hamilton had a laugh at the end of it, and he's the one who crashed! :)

But, you're right mistakes happen and this hardly makes him an overrated driver...and indeed the track was very narrow with many twisty turns.

Actually, I see Alonso screw up many occasions. The one that sticks in my mind is in the wet in China 2007, Alonso was coasting because he was affraid of the water, and braked and smashed straight into the wall.

Everyone crashes, this track was extremely narrow, the rear is wider than the front, so he has about a foot LESS width than it seems guaging from the front wheels. Alonso probably wouldn't have made the 1st corner.

unlike most of you i race karts nationally and you all probably think he just tapped a barrier and spun round. But no. What he actually did was damage his rear axle, now of you re watch this click after he crashes you will see his kart shakes when he tries driving it. Basically what this means is that the rear axle (a metal pole which connects the rear wheels and the engine together) got bent and as so he couldnt drive it and had to stop.
