@Jimisonjons, Britain still has a culture of nanny state welfare and lazy entitlement. The unions want government to protect jobs that others can do cheaper and more efficiently. Very sad. We watched the socialist bum student riots in London last week with shock and sadness. Hopefully David Cameron can improve things. ~~Greetings from America.
@dlwke2 While you sit shedding your crocodile tears for the poor windows of Milbank tower, millions of young people are watching "with shock and sadness" the future of public education being dismantled by an illegitimate government intent on introducing the biggest cuts in generations. School students are watching "with shock and sadness" their future disappearing in front of them. It gives me great joy to see students fighting back and bringing horror to the eyes of Tory dipshits like yourself.
I'll say with the money some in Parliament want to spend on her funeral they can give us all shovels and we'll dig a hole to hell to send her to Satan personally.
What a load of absolute crap. It's a shame that the mining industry was unsustainable and had to be allowed to fail, but that was an inalterable economic fact. People forget the days of twenty per cent inflation in the late seventies. Margaret Thatcher introduced a small number of moderate economic reforms which brought the country back from the brink of insanity. The only people who disliked her were those too lazy to make it in the dynamic and vibrant economy she created.
You sound like you know a thing or two about something you know nothing about. You had to live in a community affected by the coal miners strike to feel the hatred we have for the most evil person to occupy number ten Downing Street.
We are all now paying for the one thing that Thatcher wanted and that is the power of the working class to bring this country to a stand still, as happened in the 70's.

I know more than a thing or two about it. Nevertheless, believe it or not, I do empathise with the miners and those in mining communities, as trite as that might sound. It doesn't change my belief that she was right. We could not simply continue expanding the money supply and national debt to meet continually growing government control of the economy and protect coddled union workers' jobs. Personally, I wish Thatcher had gone further, but she did save us from the hell of the seventies.
the NHS, job-seeker's allowance, a whole range of welfare payments, the comprehensive education system, liberal immigration policies, and staggered income tax bands. And she abolished the poll tax - a step in the direction of a flat, fair tax system. She also did not reintroduce either corporal or capital punishment or withdraw from the EU.
Admittedly she would never have been able to acheive many of the above for political reasons.
Thatcher; the worst prime minister this country ever had, who destroyed the work of generations and left millions with no future except on the dole or in low wage drudgery, and who stole a future from our kids.
Yea gilesosborne, you're right; most truly horrible prime minister's get elected three times and raise the gross domestic product of their country 23%, aswell as strengthining the pound that was a that point weaker than the dollar, something that occured as a result of the mining strike.
GDP does not understand human suffering, adding up the assets of the very rich and very poor, and dividing it by the population of the country is meaningless unless wealth is distributed. The benefits of a strong pound are felt most by corporations. IF you don't have enough pounds in the first place, it will never be quite strong enough. Thatcher tripled unemployment, doubled the poverty rate, and led britain to it's child poverty peak. In human terms her legacy is disastrous.
Yes, I am right. I wish I wasn't and her record had been any good. But it w3asn't. Everythign she touched she ruined.
The 3 elections were a con and don on the back of lying manifestoes and a contrived war. Currency? Yeah right... Dmark to £, 1979, 4; Dmmark to the £ 1990, 2.8.
The US Dollar... £ fell from 79 till 90, thanks to her.
Let Baroness Thatcher's critics (and enemies) cry out their irrational hatred.
The more they hate and scorn and jear the more they rob their own noses into the ashes of their defeat.
Thatcher never cared too much what the media or artists or musicians said about her politics. She didn't read newspapers very often and it is quite probable that she never heard this song in her whole life.
I understand that it helped cheering up the socialists but did it help them?
I'll be glad when Thatcher does finally leave humanity in peace. In fact, someone give's us a shovel, and I'll get started on a special pit for her. I'll dig it so deep that the miners can hand her over to Satan themselves. State funereal for that witch? Not in my name!
Why not? Brown finance the wars, ensured that the super rich kept getting obscene wealth mostly tax free, poured countless billions away on PFI etc as Chancellor
Then as PM, he was even more enthusiastic on bombing Iraq and Afghanistan than Bliar was. And now he's brought in more health service privatisation, he's still on Trident, ID cards, huge lengths of detention etc.
Hmm. The lyrics could easily be changed:
So merry Christmas David Cameron
May God's love be with you
We all sing together in one breath
Merry Christmas David Cameron
We all celebrate today
'Cause it's one day closer to your death

What do you mean by "gone further"? You think "going further" would have reduced suffering and poverty?
ellanvannincymru 2 years ago
Well, among other things, she kept:
the NHS, job-seeker's allowance, a whole range of welfare payments, the comprehensive education system, liberal immigration policies, and staggered income tax bands. And she abolished the poll tax - a step in the direction of a flat, fair tax system. She also did not reintroduce either corporal or capital punishment or withdraw from the EU.

It's amazing how many people still feel this strongly about Maggie Thatcher. Unless you were here during that period, it's impossible to understand.
I wasn't alive then, obviously, but it's so easy to tell when I talk to people about it.
It's pure loathing.
